no Pujols???

A list without Lou Gehrig is blasphemy! Shun the non-believer
Mark P

I figured any "best player ever" discussion would create some objections.  Gehrig and Pujols are both obviously amazing all-time greats, but I think they're a step behind the Ruth/Mays/Bonds/Gibson/Trout* tier
8:41
Has Mike Trout already done enough to be in a "best player ever" discussion?

boo Jays

Jays have the worst outfield in the AL, how was there not a spot for Dwight Smith Jr. seems like bad judgement by Atkins.
Mark P
8:42
Small sample size for Smith, but yeah, that's tough on the Jays to lose an outfielder (to a divisional rival, no less) while your current outfield is struggling
8:43
You also think the Jays must've felt they'd have Anthony Alford up by now, given his big Spring Training, but Alford has been struggling badly at Triple-A

Is Zack Cozart really a .127 hitter with a wRC+ of -11?  Will he ever improve or did the Angels buy nothing for 3 years?
Mark P
8:45
I have to imagine he'll improve from that rock-bottom level of performance, and injuries have been a factor in Cozart's lack of success.  But yeah, a season-plus in, and that signing looks like a rough one for the Angels

Something I heard from multiple people prior to the year is to not be surprised if the white sox trade some prospects for a big name player that they could resign long term (names I heard could be like a Gerrit Cole (i know the astros wont trade him) or maybe a Mad Bum). do see you any possibility of this happening
Mark P
8:48
There were some reports about a similar situation last year, when the White Sox were talking to Baltimore about Manny Machado.

If I'm the White Sox and i'm not contending in July, however, I'm not sure why you would trade for a rental player when you could just keep your prospects and then just pursue a Cole/Bumgarner type in free agency.  What, is Cole going to suddenly fall in love with Chicago to the extent that he'll forego a shot at the open market?
8:50
I shouldn't use Cole as the example, since as you mentioned, Houston is absolutely not trading him.

8:51
Do I make a deal involving Andujar?
Mark P
8:51
(This being Yankees GM Brian Cashman)

Can't hurt to listen to offers and be open to ideas in case a team makes a ridiculous offer.  But overall, I don't think the Yankees are giving up on a promising bat like that this early.

Assuming they all get healthy at the same time, Stanton DH's, DJ gets 3b, Gleber at 2b/ss, Didi AT SS  w/ urshela getting playing time, That leaves Andujar or Voit at 1b... I think Andujar w/ 4+yrs  stright up for madbum w/  1/2 a yr  is to much,  Would Voit be enough?
Mark P
8:53
Where would the Giants play Andujar (or Voit, for that matter) since they're pretty much locked into Longoria at 3B and Belt at 1B, plus there's no DH on the immediate horizon?
The Yankees would need to offer up some outfielders or pitching to get the Giants' attention

Do I really have a chance at joining a team again?
Mark P
8:54
At least five teams have taken a look at him, so there's at least a chance.

Is Mancini worth enough for the Orioles to actually consider moving him?
Mark P
8:57
I say yes.  Mancini is 27 now, and controlled through the 2022 season.  For the O's to keep Mancini, they'd need to believe...

a) they'll be contending by 2023
b) 31-year-old Trey Mancini can be a good contributor to that team

In regards to a), I have my doubts, given the wide scope of the Orioles' rebuild.  And Mancini is a very solid hitter, though he also projects long-term as a first baseman.

Best ever also has to include Aaron. Fantastic all-around player, not just a slugger
Mark P
8:59
Aaron is just barely below my top tier.  He was an incredible, amazing player, and the model of consistency year after year.
9:00
Actually, what the heck, this is all arbitrary anyway.  Congrats to Hank Aaron, he just made the Mark Polishuk Top Tier!  This is certainly the most treasured yet of his many accomplishments.
Let's call it a night for the chat, we'll be back at a TBD time next Sunday
