White Sox
7:13
White Sox fans have to be excited about how they’re team is looking. Any possibility of expediting the rebuild and acquiring some pitching help at the deadline?
Mark P
7:15
Remember last year, when the White Sox looked into trading for Manny Machado at the deadline?  Granted, that could've been a unique situation based on the team's (weird) efforts to sign Machado, but it could also be a sign that Chicago will try to make another long-term type of deadline buy

What is a WAR worth?
Mark P
7:16
According to Edwin Starr, absolutely nothing
Artie P
7:18
Who do you consider is the BEST FA signing at this point???
Mark P
7:18
Sticking just to MLB contracts, Mike Moustakas is a huge bargain for what the Brewers paid him
Greg
7:20
Is it my imagination or are there more muscle injuries than ever? Players training to the point of inflexibility? . Hammies, lats, jeez- how did Ripken do it?
Mark P
7:21
Over-training could be part of it, though I think with the shorter 10-day IL, teams are more apt to be cautious and just IL a guy if he's going to miss a few games with a muscle issue anyways

7:21
If the tigers hold onto Nick C and then do a QO that is turned down, would another team offer him a contract or would he be sitting out until after the 2020 draft?
Mark P
7:22
Part of me wonders if Castellanos would even reject a qualifying offer, given what we've seen for defensively-limited hitters in the last few offseasons
Trades
7:23
If scherzer were to become available, would 3b Andujar (Rendon is  f/a to be) and Happ (17mil per to  evn some of the money owed to scherzer) be enough to entice wash?
Mark P
7:23
Like I said earlier, I highly doubt Scherzer will be available.

And if he is, it would take way way more than that package to even get the Nats' attention.

Tommy LaStella?  What?  How in the world?
Mark P
7:24
As the cliche goes "that's baseball"

Yanks have a Roster crunch coming, both on the 25man and 40man b/c there are a bunch of guys on th 60day IL. Could Maybin, Tulo, Kendry bring back some low A, lotto picks who are  are still far away from even being Rule5 ELIGIBLE?
Mark P
7:25
Maybe might have some type of value in such a minor trade.  Kendrys I was surprised to see the Yankees acquire in the first place, and Tulo can't possibly have any value at this point
Brent
7:25
If the nationals fire their mgr, is joe girardi the first call they make?
Mark P
7:26
Given how the Nationals are so strange about hiring (and paying) their managers, I don't know if they'd be willing to pay Girardi the salary that he undoubtedly would command.

Can josh naylor and Cal Quantrill be had in a stroman trade? Canadian content would be nice to have on the jays again
Mark P
7:31
A minor rant: I know I'm in the minority on this as a Canadian baseball fan, but I have never cared whatsoever about how many Canadians (if any at all) are on the Jays' roster.  It's a nice story if they're there, sure, but my top priority is to see good players on the roster --- doesn't matter where they're from.

Now, Naylor and Quantrill are obviously good prospects and could be on Toronto's radar for that reason alone.  My rant isn't directed at them specifically, just at the notion that the Jays should be on the lookout to land a Canadian superstar
Brent
7:32
If Baltimore ends up with back to back number one picks, how soon does the rebuild pay off?
Mark P
7:33
As always, there's no guarantee that the #1 pick ends up being a star player.  Looking back at the history of first overall picks, there are quite a few names who either didn't end up starring for the teams who drafted them, or didn't end up as stars at all.
Brent
7:33
How is Fred mcgriff not in the HOF?  Does he get in eventually by way of the veterans committee?
Mark P
7:34
If I had a HOF vote, McGriff would definitely be on my ballot.  Let's hope he makes it to Cooperstown at some point

Cardinals: Is Ozuna's departure to FA a done deal? I mean whether he bombs or continues to lead the league in RBI's. Don't know if front office will throw down money for him. Thoughts? Thanks!
Mark P
7:35
I wouldn't say it's a done deal, but the Cardinals are usually pretty proactive about extending players they really want to keep before those players hit free agency --- i.e. Yadi, Holliday, and Goldschmidt just this year.

Can the Rangers stay afloat with Gallo on the IL ... If they can't do the shop Mike Minor?
Mark P
7:36
Oops, forgot to mention this during my "how about those Rangers!" comment back at the beginning of the chat.  Losing Gallo is a huge blow, especially if it's one of those oblique strains that sideline a guy for a month or longer.

Rays need back end relief help desperately- any chance for Kimbrel?
Mark P
7:38
The Rays have been linked to Kimbrel for months, perhaps out of due diligence, or perhaps because they're willing to be aggressive if he can be had at a relative bargain price.

Now that the draft pick penalty is about to be lifted, however, I wonder if Tampa's window for making a signing has closed, since they can't win a pure bidding war

Does Cespedes suit up for the Mets ever again?
Mark P
7:40
My hunch is no, since the injuries just seem to be constantly piling up.  But I'm no doctor.
Royals
7:40
Merrifield and Kennedy for Will Myers and
Mark P
7:42
If KC does end up moving Merrifield, it'll be for prospects.  I don't see how Wil Myers would fit into what the Royals are doing, and he's making substantially more on his contract than Kennedy
Scarfish
7:42
Did you know anyone personally that got drafted Mark?
Mark P
7:43
Actually yes, I met a guy at a party a few years back who was a late-round pick about a decade ago.  I believe he briefly played in the minors but ultimately decided to give up the sport.

How hot is Dipoto’s seat?
Mark P
7:45
It doesn't seem like there's that much heat at the moment, as ownership seems willing to let Dipoto see this "re-imagining" roster shuffle through.  Once the rebuild (let's just call it a rebuild, folks) is over with and the team is ready to contend again, that'll be the true test of Dipoto's job security
Blue & Orange
7:46
Does Mickey Callaway survive the season?  The Mets are just not clicking.
Mark P
7:46
Not sure if it'll be a midseason firing, but I doubt Callaway will be managing the Mets in 2020
