MLBTR Chat With Mark Polishuk

I guess it can't hurt to ask, but if you think the White Sox are dealing a controllable young pitcher in a breakout year, good luck
Matt

Jacoby Ellsbury and a low level prospect for Samardzija. Who says no?
Mark P
7:44
Why would the Giants want Jacoby Ellsbury?
Dodger Backer
7:45
What do you think we need to cement our chances at the pennant?
Mark P
7:45
MLBTR's Connor Byrne had a post on this very topic just the other day: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/06/finding-potential-trade-targets...
The Show

Why did Seattle eat so much of Bruce’s salary for just a middling prospect?
Mark P
7:48
Bruce was acquired by the Mets solely to offset some of Cano's contract, so in that case, the Mariners still came out well ahead financially on the Jay Bruce era
7:49
And have to figure not many teams were exactly lining up to trade for Bruce in the first place.  Seattle likely just took the first offer that was willing to absorb the most money

Do you think in the next CBA that draft pick compensation will be modified as a result of Kimbrel and Keuchel deals going down this way?
Mark P
7:50
The players' union will absolutely push for the qualifying offer to be done away with altogether, or at least the concept of teams being penalized for signing free agents.

One idea I'd seen suggested (it may have been in a past chat) was to give teams who lose QO free agents compensatory picks, but the teams that sign the players wouldn't have give anything up
7:51
Whether the owners go for such an idea, of course, is another matter altogether. The system greatly favors management at this point, so they don't have much incentive to change things
Austin Riley
7:53
So tell me, what do you think of my performance so far in the majors. Think Miami is mad they didn't trade for me for Realmuto?
Mark P
7:53
Atlanta's future is looking awfully bright with all these terrific young players
7:55
There were also conflicting reports about whether or not Riley was actually on offer to the Marlins last winter, or what the Braves were willing to give up besides only Riley for JTR.

Why does Kris Bryant seem disengaged tonight? Surprise trade candidate?

Can you give me three things a Cardinals fan has to look forward to this year. And please dont tell me Matt Carpenter is going to break out of his slump is one of them.
Mark P
7:59
1. DeJong has been fantastic
2. Signs of life from Dexter Fowler, as his contract was beginning to look like an albatross
3. Ozuna is back in good form

And for the bonus fourth reason, consider that the Cardinals are a .500 team and haven't really caught fire in any respect....but they're still right in the midst of the NL Central and wild card races.
Surprise Team
8:00
Keeping in mind that teams like the Marlins have won the World Series by getting hot, can you see a team in the NL or AL doing the same?
Mark P
8:00
Sure, we're not even halfway through the season.  Anything can still happen.
Orlando Merced
8:02
Pirates can rebound because....
Mark P
8:03
...because even less has gone right for them than the Cardinals this season, yet Pittsburgh is only a few games worse in the standings.  That negative run differential, though.....ugh
Mike
8:04
Do you think that Mookie Betts wished he would have taken the 200 million plus contract now?  It seems like he and JD are putting to much pressure on themselves.
Mark P
8:05
They're both still having excellent seasons. It might have been far-fetched to expect a Trout-level year from Betts every season, but Betts and JDM aren't remotely problems
Trevor Story
8:06
Am I overhyped Coors Field product or a genuinely underrated shortstop?  No one ever mentions this guy in all star talk.
Mark P
8:07
It may surprise people to learn that Story's career road splits consist of only a .247/.311/.441 slash line.  It isn't bad, by any means, since most teams would love a starting shortstop with those numbers all the time.  But Story definitely gets a bit of a Coors Field bump
8:08
That said, Story is also a very good fielder and baserunner, so he's more than just a bat
Jack Smerdel
8:09
Most surprised you have been when hearing about a trade or free agent signing?
Mark P
8:10
This may be due to being located in Toronto, but I still haven't believe the Jays were able to trade Vernon Wells. What a complete boon that turned out to be for the franchise.

No question just thank you for doing these chats!
Mark P

The pleasure is all mine!  Thanks to everyone for submitting quality questions!

Who is the worst umpire in major league baseball
Mark P
8:13
Enrico Pallazzo sure can sing, but he really did a poor job of keeping that Angels/Mariners game back in 1988 until control
Poll Time
8:14
I think the streak of polls is coming to an end.  Any way we fit one in?
Mark P
8:14
Does everyone love polls?

Yes! (71.7% | 114 votes)

No! (28.3% | 45 votes)

Total Votes: 159
Bryce Harper
8:16
Do you think I hit 30+ HR this season?
Mark P
8:16
Yes
Aspiring GM
8:17
Acuna or Soto. Who would you rather have on your team?
Mark P
8:18
Acuna because he brings more on defense, and because he's already signed up to that (extremely team-friendly) extension.  But Soto is also an awesome young player any team would love to have as a cornerstone
Mets money
8:18
why don’t the Mets spend big market money?  Cespedes and Wright contracts are being covered by insurance (they probably even have cash profit this year on Wright).
