And no in a broader sense because the NBA and MLB are so drastically different in terms of roster composition, salary cap, etc. that such a type of blockbuster can't really happen.
Hey, it's Sunday!  Two-day chat, woo hoo!

Would the Pirates trade Felipe Vazquez, or is he off limits?
Mark P
12:03
I think the Bucs would be open to listening on almost anyone if they fall out of the race.
Bo Sox
12:04
Who do you think we will deal to save some money?  Should we keep Sale or deal him before he breaks?
Mark P
12:04
After that extension, Sale isn't going anywhere for a while
Diaz
12:05
With Alvarez looking like the real deal and the Astros having a plethora of OF talent at the MLB level, does it make a trade of Tucker more likely?
Mark P
12:06
Springer, Bradley, and Reddick could conceivably all be gone after the 2020 season.  Dealing Tucker doesn't seem that likely to be me, though Houston has other good young trade chips they might be more keen to part with

12:08
Will Boston look to trade a big money guy to clean up their cap mess?  Or does their GM like running up the tab?
Mark P
12:09
Porcello, Moreland, Pearce, Nunez all come off the books after the season
12:10
Oops, hit send a bit too quickly

So, Boston is on track to get some luxury tax relief sooner rather than later
12:11
I'm not sure what type of "big money guys" they can reasonably afford to part with since they're trying to reach the postseason again.  Plus, I'm not sure what team would take any of those aforementioned expiring contracts since none of those guys are playing particularly well
And again, the Red Sox won the World Series LAST YEAR.  And they had no qualms about doing over the maximum tax threshold to do so.

12:11
Who do I "give" away next: Gordon, Leake, Beckham, Healy, LeBlanc, Haniger, or Gonzales?
Mark P
12:13
Haniger and Gonzalez would require major returns in a trade, Healy less so.

The others, Seattle probably "gives them away" for relatively little

12:15
Are the dodgers just one Brad Hand away from being an incredible baseball team?
Mark P
12:15
I mean, they're already a pretty incredible team. But you're right, another reliever would give them the.....upper hand

*waits for high five that never comes*
Atlanta
12:17
With Donaldson gone next year would it be best to keep Inciarte around?
Mark P
12:17
I feel like Inciarte might be kept around just because teams wouldn't exactly be lining up to trade for him
Jim Scott
12:19
Would the Twinkies move Krilloff as part of a major deal?  Like a Stroman + Giles (with possible additional pieces on either side)?  And would the Jays move both of their best trade chips for a single uber-prospect?
Mark P
12:21
The Jays wouldn't deal both Stroman and Giles for one guy, so more pieces would needed to be added.  Kirilloff as the centerpiece of a trade offer would definitely get Toronto's attention, of course, but I doubt Stro/Giles have enough long-term control to merit a top-10 level prospect.

Kirilloff's name is coming up a lot in this chat, and I should point out that if/when the Twins do make some deadline trades, they're not likely to give up their absolute top prospect to do so.

12:22
Did the White Sox get good bang for their buck by dealing Sale?
Mark P
12:22
We probably won't know the true answer to that question until five or more years down the road.  But Moncada's breakout certainly makes that deal look better from Chicago's side of things than it did even a few months ago.
12:24
This is the other reason why teams rarely deal star players for a single prospect any more.  At the end of the days, all prospects are basically lottery tickets --- teams want as many as possible to boost their odds of getting a good player back.  If Moncada ends up being a star, that trade goes down as a win for the White Sox even if Kopech, Basabe, and Diaz don't pan out

12:24
Any chance the Astros make Springer or Correa available this year or next year?
Mark P
12:24
I would be very very surprised

12:25
Mark, it's Saturday night.  Log off and do something.
Mark P
12:25
Lorne Michaels didn't accept my resume, so this is all I can do on Saturday nights!

12:26
Major League, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, the Sandlot. I can watch any of them right now, which is your preference?
Mark P
12:26
Sandlot is my favourite of the quartet, but....and this is almost sacrilege to admit publicly.....I've never seen all of Bull Durham start to finish.

12:28
Who gets the better contract, Lindor or Correa?
Mark P
12:29
Off the top of my head, I was going to say Lindor, but decided to look up the numbers just to actually be accurate about something for a change
12:30
The numbers....are awfully close.  Correa has more a checkered health history but is also about a year younger and has slightly better hitting numbers
12:31
My pick is still Lindor but I think both will strike it big in their next contracts
Red Sox Fan
12:31
What do the Red Sox do at the trade deadline? Also, if you had to make a prediction, what does the long-term future hold for Mookie and does he stay in Boston?
Mark P
12:33
My guess is that he goes elsewhere.  He seems pretty intent on testing the free agent market, which could simply represent confidence in himself, but it would seem to imply that a long-term stay in Boston will only happen if the price is very right

Got here late, scrolled through the chat.  If you fear that nobody got the Simpsons reference with your hummingbird quip, well....you were wrong.  :)
Mark P
12:34
I don't make many guarantees in life, but you can bet that every Mark chat will include at least one Simpsons reference

Who is the biggest threat to a Dodgers vs Astros World Series?
