It's not out of the question that baseball will expand its playoffs.  But me personally, I like the one-off nature of the wild card game.  If a team doesn't win its division, there should be some type of additional "penalty" for lack of a better term.

Do you see the Tigers getting a haul for Matthew Boyd, Shane Greene or Nick Castillanos
Mark P
10:44
Boyd would get a lot in return if he's moved.  Greene and Castellanos, less so.
Significant less so, I should say

Thanks as always guys for doing this! My ? What do my rangers do this year they are surprising me “so far” lol
Mark P
10:45
They're surprising a lot of people, I think.  They'll keep their eyes open at the deadline for minor additions but don't expect a big splashy move

Braves should have optioned Snitker with Folty, what say you?
Mark P
10:46
Braves are in first place by 6.5 games, and won the division last year.  You really think Snitker is a problem?

Dee Gordon next up to be tradedout of SEA?
Mark P
10:48
Probably not next, since he isn't playing well right now.  Mike Leake is likelier to go first, though his no-trade clause could hold things up

Would love it if baseball would switch to a split season setup similar to the 1981 playoffs.  It might keep cities interested and give them hope if their team started out the season out slow.

This is an interesting idea, and the primary obstacle I can see (what would teams play for in the "second season" if they've already clinched a playoff spot for winning the first season) becomes lessened when you consider that, for intents and purposes, three division races already seem over.
10:52
But MLB would really have to do a lot to keep schedules balanced in both halves, reschedule the All-Star Game for between the two halves, and of course there's the huge historical impact of so hugely changing the playoff structure.  It'd be a tough sell.

It's depressing that the Mariners are more focused on saving money than improving their farm system with these trades.

The thing is, a lot of their higher-priced guys don't have much trade value because of those big contracts.  Even for a slugger like Encarnacion who's hitting well, teams are too wary of his age, contract and 1B/DH-only positional usage to offer much in the way of prospects.
10:55
On the plus side for Seattle, that Cano/Diaz trade with the Mets is looking like a huge win for the Mariners right now
10:56
That's it for me tonight, thanks for all your questions!
