Hey Mark! With so many teams are contending for a wild card spot, why wouldn’t a GM just waive the white flag and try to get maximum value for their assets and forgo the chance of getting into wild card spot? Wouldn’t building a team for a chance to be a contender for multiple years be worth it forgoing this year? What am I missing?

I have no doubt a few of the borderline contenders will shift into full-on seller mode within a week's time.

But if you're a GM, think about how much extra job security even one postseason appearance could net you.

The Braves seem like a great fit for both Smith and Bum. Any talks on a deal with SF.

I'm sure the Braves, like most other contenders, are regularly checking in with the Giants about both pitchers.  Bumgarner is known to be of interest to them, though Atlanta is also on Bumgarner's no-trade list
