Forget the talk about the Schwarb. Is it time to trade Bryant for an Ace and a lead off hitter? We have neither.
Mark P
10:48
Cubs fans love to assume that Bryant will be gone in free agency after 2021, so they should deal him soon.  But my rejoinder is simply, why not just enjoy your two remaining years of Kris Bryant while you've got him at a relative discount, since he's a top 10-15 player in baseball?

Favorite minor league team?

10:50
The London Tigers!  They'll always be near and dear to my heart, since Detroit used to have its Double-A team in my hometown of London, Ontario.

Why do I refuse to extend Marcus ?
Mark P
10:53
Ross Atkins = Blue Jays GM

If you're the Jays, you can't be expecting to contend before 2021 at the earliest.  Stroman is 28 now, so the Jays would be extending him for his age-30 season and beyond.  I guess their logic is why spend that money (and it would be a lot, since Stroman is pretty clearly not open to a discount) for a guy when he might be moving into his decline phase, especially when you might not even be ready to contend in 2021 anyway?

The Dustin/Steve tandem is pretty great.  Their subplot with Maya and Erica was the highlight of the season.

You really think I’m only going to add a Sogard type player rather than an impact bat like Castellanos, especially after all that has been said about it today?
Mark P
10:57
Fun fact: Sogard has actually been the better player this season.  Now, I'm not going to tell you that Eric Sogard is better than Nick Castellanos in a vacuum, but for 2019 along, Sogard is 2.3 fWAR and 129 wRC+, while Castellanos is 1.2 fWAR and 111.

So when you factor in Sogard's much greater defensive versatility, lower salary, and the fact that the Jays want much less for him than what Detroit wants for Castellanos, and it makes you wonder
Manny Machado
10:58
Are other teams wishing they gave me the big bucks after watching me mash the past month and a half?
Mark P
10:58
I don't think anyone doubted Machado would be great in 2019.  The issue was whether he'll still be great in 6, 7, 8+ years time

Is there any news on injured Yanks Bird, Tulo, or Ellsbury? Are any of them going to play again?
Mark P
10:59
I'd be surprised if any appear in another MLB game this season.  Maybe Bird gets a few appearances in September.

Should the Red Sox be considering a soft sell of guys like Rick Porcello or Brock Holt? If not, and they're buyers, anything else you see them looking into?
Mark P
11:00
I'm sure the Red Sox wouldn't mind moving Porcello, but who would take him?  He's not pitching very well and has a big salary.  The Sox would only eat so much money, since the point of dealing someone like Porcello would be to get under the top luxury tax marker

I haven't heard much Alex Colome rumors, but I'd image the ChiSox are willing to trade him? Wouldn't he be one of the best (if not the best) reliever available out there?
Mark P
11:03
Yes and no.  Colome's bottom-line numbers are good, but his peripherals are very unimpressive.  Not that BABIP is the be-all and end-all of advanced metrics, but his BABIP is .153!  I can see teams being wary of giving up much for Colome when he seems primed for some regression
11:04
That's it for me tonight folks, enjoy another week of trade speculation and (hopefully) at least a few notable deals until we meet again!
