It really is incredible what the Yankees have done this year, given their endless string of injuries.  Virtually every guy they put into the lineup suddenly hits at an All-Star pace.

I can’t find it anywhere who are the best FA’s in the upcoming class?⚾️ Thanks mark!
Mark P

Sounds like you're in need of some power rankings!

What are the jays going to do to supplement their pitching this offseason? Seems a shame to waste all this young exciting position player talent.
Mark P
9:47
If you heard Mark Shapiro the other day, he implied that the Jays are going to go after more arms this offseason, though not at the top tier.

I'd guess it'll be mostly Shoemaker/Buchholz-type guys like last season, and the Jays will be hopeful that they can have more luck on such signings.

What big name free agents do the Cardinals pursue this offseason?
Mark P
9:48
Given the Cardinals' recent track record of big free agent signings, is this even their best tactic?

How much do you think Hal Steinbrenner’s reluctance to go “all in” financially is keeping the Yankees from acquiring an ace over the last few seasons?
Mark P
9:51
In fairness to Steinbrenner, the Yankees are still topping the $200MM payroll level by the end of each and every season.  Roster Resource has them at around $209MM right now, and they're just barely under the top luxury tax penalty line.

So they're still spending, but just not going all-out like Hal's dad did back in the day.
9:52
And given how a lot of George Steinbrenner's big splashes were very hit-and-miss, I can't blame the current ownership and front office for being more cautious.

Jo Adell for Matthew Boyd:  reasonable for both teams?
Mark P
9:53
Adell is too valuable for the Angels, they're not making that deal.

What do orioles fans have to look forward to in the next few years
Mark P
9:54
Camden Yards is still a lovely ballpark!

Do you anticipate many more starts for Rich Hill this season? Will he be starting October games?
Mark P

Tribe rocks
9:56
Does it look like the Bauer trade was good for us, long term?
Mark P
9:57
I think so.  It was pretty apparent that Bauer wasn't stay in the Cleve beyond 2020 anyway, so the Tribe brought in a good haul of prospects and players who can help the team right now
Pablo
9:57
With the acquisition of Trevor Bauer, it is true to say that the Reds rotation is now one of the best in MLB, but they need some lineup improvement as well. Do you see the Reds making any big move for batters in the FA Market??
Mark P
9:59
In the same way that the Reds spent most of last offseason acquiring pitchers who were only controlled through 2019, I wonder if we'll see them try to pick up some position players who are only locked up through 2020.
The Reds certainly have all the look of a team who intends to 'go for it' in 2020, so bigger moves could also be in the offing

Are the Padres going for Gerrit cole this offseason?
Mark P
10:00
I'd be shocked if the Padres didn't explore a Cole signing

You waive one of your veterans to a contender.  Somewhat later, they send you one of their minor leaguers.  What happens next?
Mark P
10:01
The league would take a hard line with shenanigans like that.  The teams involved would likely face fines, loss of draft picks and/or international money, etc.

10:03
At what point should Braves fans be worried about the bullpen?  I mean, we just went out and got multiple arms in hopes of shoring up a shaky bullpen but nothing has change.  Greene is out there giving up hits/runs to everyone on a nightly basis.  Is the "big" stage in atlanta too much for these guys that had little to no "pressure" pitching for losing ballclubs
Braves bullpen
10:03
Can it get any worse?  Any chance there is a young arm hiding that may save the day?  Anderson?
Mark P
10:04
These are two of many questions in this week's chat queue about the Braves' struggling bullpen.  At this point, we're still dealing with a pretty small sample size, but any reliever trade is somewhat risky since RP performance can vary so wildly
Steve
10:05
Who are your picks to play in and win the World Series?
Mark P
10:05
My preseason pick was Yankees vs. Rockies, so, uh.....

Right now I'll take the easy route of Dodgers vs. Astros, 2017 rematch
Greg
10:06
If Brian Cashman had a do over with the Aroldis Chapman trade with the Cubs, does he still take Gleyber Torres over Eloy Jimenez, having now seen both players perform in the majors?
Mark P
10:06
I don't think Cashman is in any way dissatisfied with his return on the Chapman trade
Jaffe rhymes with Taffy
10:07
Are you a fan of poutine?
Mark P
10:07
At the risk of losing my citizenship, I'm not a big poutine fan.  Don't much like gravy, don't much like cheese curds.

Could the A's worry the Astros for the AL West if Luzardo/Manaea/Puk/Murphy are all in Oakland for all of 2020?
Mark P
10:09
There isn't much proven MLB experience within that quartet, so the A's not only need those guys to be healthy and on the big league roster, but they also need them to be quick learners against the top competition in the game
Not to say that the A's don't have an interesting young core group on the way up, but expecting them all to be big contributors by 2020 is perhaps a little too optimistic
John Farrell
10:10
Should Cora be on the hot seat?
Mark P
10:10
I know, right?  After all, it's been almost one whole year without a World Series victory! Unacceptable!
Rick
10:11
How about Gregorius as a Reds free agent target?  He could play SS, with Peraza filling the void at 2B the Reds have after trading away Gennett and moving Senzel to CF.  Too rich for Cincinnati?
