Minors deal, no doubt.  Retirement could be an option if he can't find anything anywhere, but it seems like Hernandez wants to give it one more shot in a new environment

Who's the fourth best team?  Which is to say, who's the best team that'd be at least a minor upset to make the world series?
Mark P
10:22
Assuming the top three are the Dodgers, Yankees, and Astros....I'd say probably Atlanta fourth
Josh
10:22
Any chance Cashman goes after Ryu or Cole this offseason?
Mark P
10:23
Given all NYY has been through with injuries this season, Ryu might not be their ideal guy.  I do see the Yankees making a run at Cole, however
Brent
10:24
What do you think is a good nickname for Mike Trout?
Mark P
10:24
My mom's nickname for him is the Big Fish, which I'm surprised hasn't caught on.

Any chance Rockies GM pays the price for poor state of Rox pitching even in the wake of injuries? Minor league options and pen are a disaster.
Mark P
10:27
The Rockies did make the playoffs in both 2017 and 2018, so Jeff Bridich can point to a recent track record of success.  But the team has spent a worrying amount of money on pitching (relievers in particular) who have been average at best, and disasters at worst
Roster Expansion
10:28
The 2020 roster will be 26 and in September you can go up to 28.  TWO GUYS?  Really?

At least let teams callup more guys on the active roster, but just 28 on the game roster, which could change day to day.
Mark P
10:29
As many have pointed out with the NHL-style "healthy scratch" type of roster idea, every team would just sit their 3-4 inactive SPs every game, so you'd still have deep benches and bullpens and games that wouldn't get much shorter

10:30
Do yankees try to trade Stanton in the off season? Would there be any market for him?
Mark P
10:31
Don't forget, Stanton still has a no-trade clause, so he could veto any deal.

But if you're a rival team, why would you feel compelled to trade for Giancarlo Stanton this winter?  If you need power, surely you can find other players in free agency or via trades that come with less financial and injury risk

10:32
The Mets broke Diaz! Anyway I can get Diaz back from the Mets on a reasonable trade or would it be too much for Mets fans to bear?
Mark P
10:32
I feel like the Mets might not move Diaz to the Mariners out of sheer principle, given that they know they'd be ripped apart for it by the NY newspapers
Jim
10:32
Do you think lux will make the playoff roster?
Mark P
10:33
He has a decent chance, since LA is a team that is open to using young players in big postseason situations
Eric Jr
10:34
Phillies had a better record this time last year, more Kapler or Klentak's fault? does either get the axe?
Mark P
10:34
Manager almost always goes before the GM, so Kapler's seat is hotter.
Zach
10:35
More impressive:  hank Aaron's 32 home runs in 1965 or anybody with more than 32 in 2019?
Mark P
10:35
Hammerin' Hank's year, no doubt.
Johnny
10:36
Which yankee is most likely to reproduce a .900 ops season: lemahieu, urshela, tauchman
Mark P
10:37
DJLM is my pick of that trio.  Don't forget, he had a pretty decent record of hitting in Colorado
Jason
10:37
What do the Braves have to do to pull away from the Nats?
Mark P
10:37
I think they play each other seven more times in September, so winning five of those seven would do it
Rally Monkey
10:37
Where on earth can we get SP? Is it better to go after Cole or two 2nd tier free agents? We need multiple quality arms dont you agree?
Mark P
10:38
100 percent.  Getting just Cole would be a big help, but the Angels need all the pitching they can get
stosh88
10:38
Do the Yankees offer DiDi an extension similar to Bogarts, or just a QO and use that money for a pitcher?
Mark P
10:40
I think Didi would take a Bogaerts extension in a heartbeat, but the Yankees aren't going to offer that to him.

It'll be a QO, or maybe even not that given how Didi hasn't really impressed since returning from injury.
Big Fish
10:40
Are the Angels really going to waste Mike Trout like this?? Arte Moreno seemed like Steinbrenner of the west for a long time but even with the Goat, why aren’t they doing everything they can to surround him with even a decent team??
Mark P
10:42
You can't accuse GM Billy Eppler of having done nothing --- acquiring Upton, Ohtani, Simmons, and even some big swings that didn't work out (i.e. Cozart)

The problem is that Eppler also had to completely rebuild a desolate farm system from scratch, and he's had to deal with a pitching staff that has been racked by both injuries and (with Skaggs) tragedy.  With Trout extended, however, the Angels get more time to finally build a team to get Trout back to the playoffs
10:43
Time to wrap up tonight's chat, everyone enjoy the holiday weekend!
