Who’s the manager of the cubs next season?
Mark P
10:15
My guess is that Maddon is gone, barring something like a surprise NL pennant or another Series win.

It's getting harder and harder to predict "next manager" hires since so many teams are hiring first-time guys who (in some cases) have barely any MLB coaching experience, let alone managerial experience.  In general, I'd look at coaches who have worked under Epstein in the past in Chicago and Boston.
There's also the ever-present David Ross situation, though he might want a bench coach role or something rather than a manager's job
Dombrowski
10:16
Anyone need a veteran GM?
Mark P
10:17
This is as good as any a space to note that for the last several weeks in these chats, I've consistently written "I doubt Dombrowski would be fired so soon after a World Series win" when asked about a possible Red Sox front office change.  Oops!
Will Dave Dombrowski be in a charge of a front office in 2020?

Gerrit Cole

Who is the highest bidder? Yanks, maybe Angels?
Mark P
10:19
Those two will be in the mix.  Phillies, White Sox, Padres, Giants, Cardinals...maybe the Twins or Rangers could also be involved.
Nick Castellanos
10:19
Where do I end up next season?
Mark P
10:21
I'm still hesitant to say Chicago, since the Cubs must realize that a Schwarber/Heyward/Castellanos defensive alignment is far from ideal.
10:22
But Castellanos has does a ton to revive his value.  His best bet is still an AL team that can DH him on a semi-regular to regular basis, but contenders with open DH spots aren't in big supply

Your suggestion that the Rangers would be in on Cole is interesting; are they close enough to contention that Cole could be the difference?
Mark P
10:24
It was more a speculative suggestion, since it remains to be seen if the Rangers will make a big spending splash as they go into their new ballpark
They certainly need the pitching, but even if they did sign Cole, they'd need to do more since they have question marks all over the roster

what SP free agent do brewers target
Mark P
10:27
I don't see them shopping at the top of the market, since that's not their M.O.

Maybe in the Michael Pineda, Tanner Roark, type of tier.  A reunion with Gio Gonzalez also makes a lot of sense

Bigger surprise...Reynolds or McNeil in the batting title hunt?
Mark P
10:28
Got to be Reynolds, coming in more or less out of nowhere

Padres try to trade for Kluber this off-season?  Risky but also intriguing along with Richards, Paddock, etc.
Mark P
10:31
They've had a lot of talks about Kluber already, but you wonder if Kluber's lost season will set all negotiations back to basically square one.
I'm of the mind that Cleveland will keep Kluber through the first few months of 2020 to see if he regains value

Odds Chris Davis is on Orioles roster next year?
Mark P
10:33
Pretty low

What is Cleveland"s secret in developing pitchers?
Mark P
10:34
If I knew the answer to that, I'd be working in a front office somewhere

Are you in favour of having a full-time DH or using the DH spot to rotate position players for rest/injury/matchups?
Mark P
10:34
I'm generally in favor of a rotation, unless you have a DH whose bat is so good (Ortiz, Cruz, JD Martinez, etc.) it makes up for their lack of defensive versatility
10:35
That's it for tonight's chat, folks.  Just a reminder, next week's Sunday chat will be on Saturday night, making it.....the SatChat!  (trademark pending)
