The Jays don't have much money on the books, and they could use Myers as a replacement for Justin Smoak at first base.

It makes some sense, but if you're the Jays, you might prefer to not take any money on (or if you spend money, spend it on pitching more directly) to take on a struggling player like Myers

Bryant to SD? Cubs might shake up the roster and need to rebuild the farm, and the Pads are looking for star power.
Mark P
9:19
This makes more sense for San Diego than a Betts trade would, since Bryant is controlled through 2021.  But San Diego would only be able to play Bryant in the outfield, since 1B/3B are spoken for

MLB solves all of its attendance issues and future fan issues by making kids under 16 get into games for free. Yay or nay?
Mark P
9:22
I like the idea, though it'll lead to a lot of....
Theo

Betts for Contreras straight up.  Who says no?
Mark P
9:22
Red Sox, easily

Marlins offseason plans? Thanks
Mark P
9:23
My guess is more of the same, just trying to pick up young players and building the farm system.  They don't have much else to realistically trade in the way of veterans, barring total salary dumps

Does Neal Huntington keep his job?   He should be gone just for the Archer deal alone.  For the two years prior to the trade Archer has been bad.  We haven't even seen what Baz will do either.
Mark P
9:25
If I owned the Pirates, I would absolutely be cleaning house after the horrific last few months.  But at this point, it seems like Huntington is staying.
Tim
9:27
Who would get the bigger deal? Cole, Rendon or Strausburg assuming he opts out
Mark P
9:28
My guess is Rendon.  A valuable everyday player should be worth more than a valuable starter.
Syne Randberg
9:28
Cubs getting crazee in the offseason?
Mark P
9:29
It seems like some kind of bigger shakeup is required.  Theo hinted at big moves last offseason but not much happened, yet missing the postseason entirely should merit a more aggressive approach

Fans should hate rebuilds. Potentially wasting 5-10 years for a front office team who might not be around to see the vision through (Cleveland) should not make fans feel any better than riding the middle (Arizona). What say you?
Mark P
9:31
I can see both sides of it.  The Astros' and Cubs' success in the wake of total rebuilds have lessened the blow for fans, though that doesn't mean teams following a similar path will be able to pull off their rebuilds just as smoothly
9:32
So if you're a fan of one of those teams, then a promise of "we'll be better in 4-5 years" means nothing if the team is still bad in those four or five years and you need to restart the process again
If I'm a D'Backs fan, by the way, I should be very pleased with what Hazen has done.  He hasn't accepted a rebuild, and kept the team competitive while still making some necessary trades and saying goodbye to major names

twins get no respect for having pretty good year what say you?
Mark P
9:37
It's true, they're pretty under the radar for a team that has led the division more or less the entire year.
Michael

What do the giants do?  Nostalgia never won anything and while I’d like bum to return they can ill afford another bad contract for many years. Already have too many of those
Mark P
9:40
It'll be interesting to see how the Giants approach things, whether they feel they can contend in 2020 or if they'll now step back into a mini one-year rebuild or something.

I get the sense that they weren't willing to fully punt on 2019 both because it was Bochy's last year and because they were hamstrung by a lot of seemingly untradeable contracts.
Bob Loblaw
9:40
Not questioning your characterization, but how does a 100 win team end up "under the radar"?
Mark P
9:41
All the talk in the American League has been focused around an eventual Yankees/Astros ALCS showdown, with virtually every other team as an afterthought.  Even for the Twins, it seemed like a lot of fans were just waiting for Cleveland to eventually take over the AL Central
La Cheeserie
9:42
How would the players react if the reality they live in is that salaries just hit their peak and will never be as high again? Positive preemptive changes or old man longing for the good old days?
Mark P
9:43
Why should salaries ever peak?  Teams and the league as a whole continue to make tons of profit every year, so why shouldn't player salaries continue to rise as a reflection of that success?
Justin Verlander

Do I make the HOF?
Mark P
9:43
No question about it

9:44
What's my biggest offseason priority?
Mark P
9:45
(This would be Yankees GM Brian Cashman)

It's got to be starting pitching.  Also, and i have to believe the team is doing this already, investigate if this rash of injuries is just a fluke or if changes need to be made to the training/medical staff
Julio

Do you think the Braves should pick up Teheran's option?
Mark P
9:47
It's a $12MM club option with a $1MM buyout for Teheran in 2020, so effectively an $11MM decision for Atlanta

I don't think he'll be the ace he hinted at becoming a few years back, but for a durable innings-eater of a rotation piece, $11MM is more than fair.  My guess is the Braves bring him back
Moneyball
9:49
What kind of offseason should do we need to have to catch and surpass Houston for the AL West in 2020 and beyond?
Mark P
9:51
The A's will need their young pitchers to all be healthy and live up to expectations in 2020.  They would mean more than any offseason move, no question
Kretin
9:52
Realistically, can the Angels be contenders next year?
Mark P
9:52
They need at least two new starting pitchers, and some good injury luck for the first time in years and years.  It's not impossible, but this will be a big offseason for GM Billy Eppler and company
Pauline Estares
9:53
Favorite minor league baseball team?
Mark P
9:53
The Tigers used to have their Double-A affiliate in my hometown, so the London Tigers will forever be my vote.  "Tear 'Em Up Tigers, Let's Go!"

Will Gabe Kapler, and or others on the coaching staff (ie. Chris Young be fired? Also, Was Charlie in the dugout to report back to management?
