Are the Reds even a possibility for Lindor? Or are the Indians just using the Reds as a way to pin the Dodgers into giving up more for him?
Zac C
8:47
What are the chances the Reds make another move of ANY kind? Either Lindor trade (probably unlikely) or adding a corner OF Bat, or maybe even back-end bullpen help? Thanks
JG
8:47
Is the reds still in for lindor or pretty much pulled back due to asking price
Mark P
8:49
Lots of Lindor/Reds questions in the chat, so let's address them all at once.  I'm not sure if the Reds have the elite-level prospects or young players Cleveland would want, unless they're willing to move Senzel as the centerpiece.  Something like Senzel and India (who may be somewhat of a blocked prospect around the infield) would get the Tribe's attention but they'd still want more
8:50
On the plus side, we know the Indians don't care about state rivalries preventing a deal, as evidenced by the Trevor Bauer trade last summer.  And the Reds are known to be aggressively pushing for the playoffs, so they might just decide to throw caution to the wind for Lindor

Do you believe the report of there being a weekend deadline for best trade offers?
Mark P
8:51
Nope.  If a team makes Cleveland an amazing offer on January 7 or something, the Indians won't go "well, they missed the deadline, so...."

Philly is incredibly disappointed in Middleton indicating that the luxury tax line is stopping them from making certain other necessary moves. Given the deep front office failures at rebuilding the farm, how can they avoid spending in the interim to make them truly competitive?
Mark P
8:53
The Phillies have been hamstrung by a couple of factors.  It seems like they decided to swing back into trying to be competitive before really building up a lot of in-house young talent (except for Hoskins, Nola, and it seems Kingery).  Then, a lot of the big spending they did do has gone awry, like virtually every reliever they signed, or Arrieta, or Cutch getting hurt
8:54
So I don't blame Middleton for perhaps not wanting to sign off on more big expenditures until he has more evidence that his front office will spend that cash more wisely.  Which, of course, is a bit of a catch-22 for GM Matt Klentak, since he knows he might fired if the team doesn't improve in 2020, but he doesn't have an unlimited budget to work from

What would a trade for David price look like to the blue Jay's if they took on his full contract
Mark P
8:55
The Jays would only take Price's full contract if Boston also included some ridiculous package of prospects (Casas, Chavis, Dalbec, and more) or if they also included someone like Devers

Gonsolin, Ruiz, Downs, stripling, Seaver for lindor, clevenger. Who says no?
Mark P
8:57
Indians say no, since I assume you mean "Seager" rather than Seaver.  If the Dodgers somehow have access to a time machine and prime Tom Seaver is included, Cleveland says yes!
Nolan Ryan
8:57
You keep saying Arenado has a no trade clause: what teams are on that list?
Mark P
8:58
He has full no-trade protection, and can block a deal to any team
Nate
8:58
Any chance the Indians make Ramirez available?  If so, seems like he’d be more attractive to Braves than Lindor.  Ramirez/Swanson > Lindor/Riley/Camargo
Mark P
8:58
Ramirez's deal is looking like enough of a bargain that the Tribe will want to hang onto it

Who are the best bullpen arms available now?
Mark P
9:01
Will Harris is probably the biggest fish remaining.  Guys like Cishek, Phelps, Stammen, Betances as the rebound candidate....lots of interesting relievers still available
Nicholas

I'm guessing since the Cardinals aren't making anything moves to improve their outfield they're going to count on Dylan Carlson to be their guy.
Mark P
9:02
Given the Cards' track record with good prospects, it isn't a bad strategy?  No guarantee Carlson will be good from day one, but i can understand why they're excited about his potential.

Speaking of Arenado, would you trade McNeil for him as some in the NY media suggests?
Mark P
9:04
It depends how the rest of the trade package shakes out, but sure, I'd move McNeil.  He's a fine player, but Arenado is one of the best in the game

Hey Mark. I’d like to see MLB allow Houston to pick part of their punishment. They will be fined and lose picks either way. However, they could either vacate the 2017 World Series title, or keep the title, but Hinch, Luhnow, et. al. will be banned for life. Your thoughts?
Mark P
9:05
It's anyone's guess as to how the Astros will be punished, but one thing I can guarantee is that the 2017 Series won't be "vacated."  Major League Baseball doesn't want that embarrassment as part of the official WS record.

Are the Jays signing Edwin?
Mark P
9:06
I'd guess the Travis Shaw signing means the Jays are out on Edwin, unless they aren't at all sold on Rowdy Tellez

What would have to happen for the White Sox to get to the playoffs this year? What further moves would they have to make this off-season?
Mark P
9:07
One more big bat, and one more good starting pitcher
9:08
(And another injury-riddled season for Cleveland.  And a regression year for Minnesota, probably.)

Could Aaron Sanchez be a good bullpen piece for a team looking to take a flier on him?
Mark P
9:09
Absolutely, though it remains to be seen when in 2020 Sanchez will be healthy enough to pitch
Markoallen
9:09
Thoughts on the franco deal for the royals?
Mark P
9:10
Similar to the Tigers' moves for Schoop and Cron, it was a nice signing of a player with upside.  Could even end up as a steal for KC if Franco is a post-hype breakout type of player

Chances Phillies really go into the season without adding another starting pitcher?
Mark P
9:11
Very slim
JBJ

Haven't hurd much on trades involving him what's rumors involving him
Mark P
9:13
Not much as of late.  Even moreso than his salary or lack of hitting, teams must be wary of Bradley's defensive decline (at least via UZR/150 and Defensive Runs Saved) in 2019.  If he isn't providing elite defense and his bat still isn't productive, then Bradley doesn't have much value overall
