Hey everyone!
Welcome to the first-ever MLBTR subscriber chat.
We picked ... a rather busy day to do this, ha.
1:02
I think Steve (who may pop in) will be doing these in the future. But for me, I'd like it to be more interactive and conversational than our regular chats.
Let's get rolling ...

Will the Betts signing embolden Realmuto to ask for the same numbers discussed previously of $24 million per year?  If so, do you think the Phillies have any option other than to cave given the lack of suitable catching options to replace him?
Jeffrey Todd
1:02
JTR definitely should be emboldened if there are any talks to be held right now or during the season.

The Mookie deal shows that teams are able to come up with coin if they need to. And that they can anticipate revenue returning. Certainly the Phillies can't match the Dodgers, but they are in the next revenue tier.
That said, we are talking about a deal in Mookie's case that he wasn't going to take before covid popped up. He would've gone to FA and sought 400+. So I'm not sure JTR has cause to seek an even greater premium. But he does have cause to stick to his guns, more or less.

If anybody has a different take on this or anything else, shoot a response and I'll post it.

I don't think that the Betts deal was negotiated AFTER covid.  I think that the framework was done BEFORE covid and the Dodgers felt compelled to honor that agreement.  What are your thoughts?

So there has been some rumbling to that effect. Without knowing any inside info ... my guess would be that the groundwork had been laid already. But I personally doubt the salary specifics would have been nailed down as they ended up. I think he'd have held out for more.

As a subscriber, I'm curious when/how we will see the new MLBTR site without ads both on PC & via the app.
Jeffrey Todd
1:07
I will ask this question but would also encourage you to send it in (with any details you can provide) through our contact form on the site. Obviously there'll be some smoothing out of things as we get this new initiative launched, so we appreciate all feedback and patience as we get it rolling.

Evoldi was throwing well in ST #1... Views on him carrying that into the regular season?
Jeffrey Todd

Nate is always throwing well, right? The stuff jumps and always has. It's hard to get a read from spring/summer training results, especially in his case. He has so rarely put it all together for a full season.

Greetings all! I'm trying my damndest to fill in our partial posts on today's barrage of roster moves, ha, but I'll poke my head in here and there.
Homeless Blue Jay

Do you envision the Blue Jays being forced to go on the road the entire season playing "home games" in the cities of their opponents?
Jeffrey Todd
1:09
I think they'll end up somewhere, Baltimore or Buffalo.
Steve Adams
1:09
Add me as a chat moderator, goof.
See Gmail for instructions, lol
Yeah, I can't see them playing nomad all year
Jeffrey Todd

OH HI STEVE
Steve Adams
1:09
Yes -- I had to type that to Jeff to get him to let me in, ha
Jeffrey Todd
1:09
I had already done that, buddy. Yeesh.
Steve Adams

Lies.
All lies.

Steve and I both? You're on.

Two-on-one!

Anything is possible in 60. But ... the Dodgers basically are a built-in 2 on 1 advantage with that roster depth and top-end talent.
Steve Adams

I can see them getting into the postseason, especially if they expand the field, but topping the Dodgers isn't happening in my view.

I just wanted to say thanks for this chat. It's great to have the sport back again and the first regular-season game in just a few hours.
Jeffrey Todd

Seconded!

Top to bottom, the Dodgers are maybe the best team in baseball.
Jeffrey Todd

If anyone has thoughts on this postseason expansion issue, send 'em in. HUGE ding to the chances of the Dodgers, which is kind of sad in a way.
*along with the short season

Though it is fun to imagine the Dodgers' brainiacs making spreadsheets to decide which team they'll pick to play.

Tigers going to get top draft pick again?
Jeffrey Todd

I'll say no there. They seem to want to push up some talent and aren't fully punting. Orioles are my odds-on fav.
