Meanwhile the Indians gave up Bauer for a future and present-oriented package. While saving $. Could see more of that sort of thing for sure.

@jareddiamond
Juan Soto was tested for the coronavirus on Tuesday and played that night in a scrimmage against Baltimore. That test result came back positive early this morning.

Didn't some teams put players in suites as lockers during summer camp? I'd think this would work for TOR-BAL. I doubt Buffalo has that many suites.
Jeffrey Todd

Yeah I think there are enough options in terms of the physical facilities to make just about anything possible. The Baltimore issue is whether the state and local authorities will permit a doubling of the MLB-related risk.

Why won't MLB go with a balanced schedule?  The wildcard race is not fair without a balanced schedule.
Jeffrey Todd
1:57
I think the league just has other priorities and sees true fairness as somewhat impossible and not all that important. It's sort of one of those things where the chips will fall differently every year. Even if you have theoretical balance, you're going to run into teams at different times of the year and have accidental advantage/disadvantage.

That’s what I was thinking re: Pearson.  It was Rogers owner Sportsnet that reported it... but was coming frim
Jeffrey Todd

Yep, very important distinction. If the Jays just came right out and said it ... well, even in this case, I'm not sure it'd warrant a grievance in light of the Bryant precedent. But it'd be a much stronger case.

Who do you see as a likely Fantasy free agent that is a sleeper pick to make an impact this season?
Jeffrey Todd

*It'd be a much stronger case with such an admission, I mean.

[Insert Nick Solak plug here]
2:00
He'll probably have 4 positions by season's end -- already has two -- and I think he'll rake at the plate and get more playing time if Calhoun continues to battle injuries.
Jeffrey Todd

Fun fact: when we had an MLBTR retreat last year, someone approached me during lunch to ask about our job. They were very jazzed on Nick Solak b/c they were high school buds.
Believe he had just been promoted.

You never told me this!
Jeffrey Todd

You were busy stuffing your face.
2:01
Okay so now I need to come up with a fantasy sleeper? Tough. I'm not in any leagues this year!
Steve Adams

Well, I met J.P. Feyereisen's childhood friend or girlfriend (can't remember) at a food hall in St. Paul this offseason, so I guess we're even as far as former big leaguers' high school connections.
(That sounds made up but is 100% true)

Does Yo Cespedes count?! I'll take him!
Steve Adams

Also, stuffing my face sounds like something I would do.
Jeffrey Todd

Wow, big-time celeb connections here.

Friend of a friend of J.P. Feyereisen.

If you put the O/U on Cespy's games played at 15.5, I'd take the under. I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm rolling those dice baby.

Arenado decide he's happy? Or is Mike Rizzo gonna be wearing out that phone line?
Jeffrey Todd
2:04
So I don't believe Nolan will be very happy. I think the Rox are going to struggle, though they aren't without talent. But I also don't know that it matters since he can't force a deal.
Trouble is, the uncertain economics make that contract look even bigger. And the 60-man rules make it even tougher to structure a deal involving a volume of lower-level players.

My understanding of the 3 batter minimum rule for relievers is that the pitcher can finish out an inning having faced one batter but also has to pitch the entire next inning. Am I confused here. Can a reliever be brought in to face the last batter in the 9th inning? How do you think managers might plan a strategy?
Jeffrey Todd
2:06
The reliever doesn't have to take the ball for the next inning if they finish the prior inning. So you can still bring in a situational lefty for the 3rd out ... it's just that you're stuck with the consequences and a possibly big inning if he doesn't get that 3rd out.
2:07
Okay ... last chance to fire off any questions!
2:08
Right on, then I'll wrap it up here. We appreciate your support. Enjoy the games tonight!!!
