Am I crazy thinking the Reds did the right thing this off season by not tying up a lot of money in anticipation of next year’s FA class?
Mark P
9:17
It's not like they exactly have a ton of money coming off the books next winter --- Miley, Barnhart, Lorenzen for just under $17MM

Plus, there's still the matter of the 2021 season, which you'd think the Reds would want a piece of given how much they spent prior to 2020
Mets Mike
9:17
Odds of Francisco Lindor signing an extension?
Mark P
9:18
I'd say 55%, based on just an educated feeling.  Lindor will ask for a lot to stay off the open market, but the Mets are prepared for such a splashy contract.

9:19
Why is everyone ignoring the fact the Hamilton has insane speed?
Mark P
9:19
If you can't get on base in the first place, 80-grade speed is only so valuable.
Matt Carpenter
9:21
If he won't get playing time in STL and the Cardinals pay his salary (a la Fowler), is there a team that would make sense for him to be traded to?
Mark P
9:21
Carpenter has a no-trade clause, so I'd guess he would only waive it to join a contending team.  On the top of my head, I'm not sure what contender could really have a role for a guy who has struggled for two years straight

When can players who signed this off-season be traded?
Mark P
9:23
I believe it's June 15.  I don't recall if that's a hard deadline, or if players can be dealt if they agree to a trade.

I am so against players being mic'd up on the field. It breaks the 4th wall and makes me feel like the game has less weight
Mark P
9:24
I dunno, if a microphone caught some type of "candlesticks make a nice gift" conversation during an actual game, I'd laugh pretty hard
OZ
9:25
Have there been any rumors about Tyler Flowers?  It seems that with the overall lack of talent at the position, some club would want to sign him.
Mark P
9:25
Very quiet offseason for Flowers rumors.  He's the kind of guy the Yankees could have their eye on if Chirinos is out.
That guy

I know the Os are projected to be last but did better than a handful of other teams including the Red Sox’s. Why all the hate?
Mark P
9:26
It's not "hate," it's just the acknowledgement that Baltimore is doing next to nothing to actually improve their team.  The Red Sox had a lot of things go wrong in 2020 and made moves to upgrade their roster, so I'd be very surprised if they finished behind the O's

I love the idea of preventing infielders from playing in the outfield, but I see a lot of people acting like this is "preventing shifting" - shifting is moving from one position in the infield to another, not turning an infielder into a 4th outfielder. I don't understand why anyone would want to watch baseball with 4 outfielders, that is *not* baseball. How do you feel about it?
Mark P
9:28
I tend to agree.  When you're seeing players check their cheat sheets before every batter and then readjust into some esoteric defensive alignment, it feels like something isn't quite right.

Are we being underestimated?   I mean losing Lindor hurts...but Eddie Rosario makes up for some of that and Carlos Santana killed us last year.   Do you see us in the mix for Joey Gallo or Trey Mancini (MAYBE Jo Adell haha)?  We only have 121 MLB ready middle infielders (in a year or two).   Lol!
Mark P
9:30
With that pitching staff, Cleveland still has to be considered a playoff contender, whether it's taking a wild card or maybe winning the Central outright
Optimist in CLE
9:31
For a player like Amed Rosario, what is better, buying in to a position switch and no longer being seen a SS, or only playing a utility role, but staying as a SS?  Does any of this matter to players?  Seems like he should win the CF spot in CLE if he wants it.
Mark P
9:33
This is an interesting question, especially as it pertains to how more and more teams are valuing multi-position versatility.  I'm sure Rosario feels he can be a reliable everyday shortstop, and might not be too crazy about becoming a super-util type.  But then again, there's lot of value in versatility, and plenty of upside in being a Zobrist type
At this point in Rosario's career, he must just want regular playing time wherever he can get it, so if he has to play the outfield to do so, so be it

what are the chances of the cardinals acquiring pujols at the deadline and having wainwright, Molina, and pujols all retire at season’s end?
Mark P
9:36
Realistically, what are the odds that Pujols is playing well enough to merit a midseason acquisition?  And where would St. Louis play him?
rays
9:36
rays winning the A.L EAST without Snell and Morton? What are the odds?
Mark P
9:36
I can't ever rule out the Rays from figuring something out.  Watch this, 2021 will be the year Rich Hill stays healthy and he'll be a Cy Young candidate or something.

Ryan borucki an underrated pen arm? Since moving to the pen he is hitting 95+ with command as a lefty. Not a ton of those in the mlb
Mark P
9:40
Borucki was kind of a forgotten man in Toronto, and I agree that he looks good as a relief candidate if he can get his control under, uh, control

If Trout was on a East Coast team would he get more consideration as one of the top 5 players of all Time?
Mark P
9:41
There's plenty of GOAT buzz around Trout as it is.  The bigger issue is that the Angels haven't won anything.
Dodgers rule
9:41
With Boras as his agent what are the chances Seager resigns with the Dodgers?  If he leaves for mega dollars, who do the Dodgers sign?  Story?  Best MLB chat, thank you!
Mark P
9:43
The Dodgers can basically pick and choose at shortstop next winter, whether it's signing one of the free agents or exploring trades.  (Or, maybe even just letting Lux at the position.)  For this reason, I tend to think they won't extend Seager, but who knows, maybe they're totally sold on him in their front office as as big a cornerstone as Turner, Jansen, Kershaw were when they were extended

Is this my last year managing this Miami team, if so should I hang up my cleats?
Mark P
9:45
Mattingly isn't really an old guy, he turns 60 this year.  I would imagine he'd want to keep managing elsewhere, but it's also no sure thing that Miami would part ways with him, either.  If Jeter and company didn't really want Mattingly, they wouldn't have extended him in the first place.

Let's get it out of the way.  Will Adell be traded?
Mark P
9:46
Nope
Braves
9:47
Braves are short on cash it looks like. Any chance someone takes Ender plus say $4 million of his $9 million left of a 10-20 prospect is tied to him?
