I have to believe Atlanta has shopping Inciarte around all offseason (or earlier), but perhaps understandably, there doesn't appear to be a done of interest.

In situations like this and trying to figure out which prospect the Braves might try to move, I always look at minor leaguers who were in the system before the current GM took over.  Anthopoulos may not have the same connection to youngsters from the John Coppolella era that he does with prospects drafted by his own front office.

Your Top three shows of all time
I got Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men
Mark P
9:50
Oh man, this is hard to narrow down.

Simpsons is for sure one.  Probably Seinfeld and SNL for the others
Eric Wolfard

would the Padres be good enough to win the NL west if they were to trade for Josh Hader?
Mark P
9:52
They're arguably good enough to win the division even as presently constructed, so Hader could certainly be a deciding factor

Kieboom is doing horribly.  Why hasn't Rizzo signed Gyorko, he should come pretty cheap?
Mark P
9:54
I'm a little surprised Gyorko is still a free agent.  As for the Nats, they seem set with Harrison as their 3B alternative if Kieboom struggles again.

Are you a White Castle guy?
Mark P

Only eaten there a couple of times in my life.  I didn't find their burgers to be anything special.

My apologies to both Harold and Kumar.

Any top 3 shows of all time list without The Office should be null and void.
Mark P
9:56
The Office is also very high on my list
Brewers
9:56
Best defensive lineup in recent memory and plenty of pop.  Are the Brewers the team to beat in the central?
Mark P
9:57
I like what Milwaukee did this winter, Wong/JBJ is a major defensive upgrade.  Whether it's enough to win the Central remains to be seen, but the Brewers have had a tendency to overachieve.

As a Tiger fan, I obviously miss the days when we went after the top free agents and tried to make a splash even if we did things like throwing stupid money at Prince Fielder even when their wasn't even a position to play him. At least there was a buzz in the air and Comerica was packed. Now I getting the feeling  that even though the rebuild shows some promise, I get the feeling that going forward, the Tigers are going to start operating as a small market team. Am I wrong?
Mark P
10:01
Many, many other Detroit fans have that same concern.  It's a question that won't be answered until the team does start getting into position to contend, but I don't think it'll be a true "small market" situation.  No reason the Tigers couldn't support at least a payroll in the $150MM range.

Porcello?  His 2018 was such a flash-in-the-pan but still he's competent.  Why not, say, DET?
Mark P
10:02
Surely it's just a matter time before Porcello is signed somewhere, perhaps by a team that has a pitching injury this spring?
Jesse
10:03
How concerned should the Mets be about Carrasco?
Mark P
10:04
Hey, speaking of teams with a pitching injury this spring...

Doesn't appear to be all that serious with Carrasco for now, however.
I mean, any sort of elbow soreness isn't a good thing, but no reason for Mets fans to panic just yet

I love how all of the Seattle execs tried to do the politically correct damage control "he doesn't speak for the organization" bit.  Dude! He was the President and CEO!  Of course he does!
Mark P
10:07
Everything about that whole situation is still totally bonkers to me.

Will the Cubs ever be good again? They're so old and expensive
Mark P
10:09
It's not like the Cubs were "bad" last year.  They still made the playoffs, after all, and I wouldn't even be shocked if they made it again this season.

The problem is that the Cubs have settled for being "good" the last few years when they've had some clear needs on their team, but also enough talent to be Series contenders if those needs had been filled

Am I a HOFer?

10:11
If I had a vote, yes
NFL fan (also MLB fan)
10:11
Is there a significant difference between salary cap and luxury tax?
Mark P
10:13
The NFL has a hard cap that can't be exceeded under any circumstances.  The MLB luxury tax threshold can be exceeded at the cost of a penalty that is, all things considered, pretty minor.  (Tim Dierkes recently explored this: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/02/mlb-luxury-tax.html)
Frankly, I think owners and front offices often try to get away with salary-cutting moves because some fans are so familiar with the NFL's hard cap that when they hear "luxury tax limit," they see it as some barrier that can't be crossed

Does the schedule go back to normal? Will we have inter league play
Mark P
10:14
This year's schedule is a normal 162-game set, with the regular allotment of interleague games
For Love of the Game
10:16
Is Casey Mize in danger of being a bust?  He pitched poorly last fall and again this spring.  Poor control and his fastball is only 10 mph faster than his off-speed pitches and he seems homer-prone.
Mark P
10:17
Again, not to put a ton of stock into ST numbers.  Mize is only 23 and has never pitched Triple-A ball yet, plus his normal developmental path was totally thrown off last year.  Nobody should be surprised if there are some struggles.
Corey Seager
10:17
Would Boras talk to the Dodgers during season? What would it take to get a deal done?
Mark P
10:18
Most players don't like extension talks to drift into the season, unless they're very close to a deal by Opening Day and it gets finalized by mid-April or something.

I would imagine Seager would want to get any talks wrapped up (one way or the other) by Opening Day as well, but if he tells Boras to negotiate in-season, it would happen.

What do you expect to come from the next round of CBA negotiations? I'm nervous!
Mark P
10:21
Being cynical/realistic, I think there's a better than 50-50 chance of a work stoppage.

As to what the eventual next deal will look like, who knows.  The players want to overhaul so much of the current system, the owners will want to save their money and protect their gains from the last CBA talks, there's the pandemic still existing a a consideration.....it's all up in the air

Hey, after this chat send me all your Adell proposals. We’re about to make a deal. Don’t inform the chat.

There we go.  Smooth as ever, Mark.

What do you make of reports of Franco “waiting to sign?” What could he be waiting for besides a possible DH in the NL?
