Are the A’s being slept on?
Mark P
9:00
I think so.  Even after all their free agent losses, I certainly wouldn't be surprised if they reached the playoffs again
Marlin Super Fan Skeptic

How about we set up a poll just to spite our dear friend Marlin Super Fan?
Mark P
9:03
I mean, he didn't say I couldn't make a poll AFTER I gave my own opinion!
Will the Marlins finish over .500?

Yes (19.6% | 134 votes)

No (68.5% | 468 votes)

They will finish with an exact .500 record (11.9% | 81 votes)

Total Votes: 683

should I have kept BWJ on the roster for opening day?
Mark P
9:04
My guess is no.  This isn't really a service-time game, considering that Witt has never played above rookie ball.  The Royals aren't going to do anything to throw off their prized prospect's development.

I wish more teams were about the "lifetime player" thing.  I get that it's a business and hard decisions have to be made, but remember when the Phillies traded Utley/Rollins and released Howard?  Nothing they got back really turned out to be useful (and they knew that at the time).  They should've let their core go down as Philly-for-life legends.
Mark P
9:07
In fairness, some teams are going their players favors by trading them, so they can join a contending team in search of a ring rather than spend their final years on a mediocre team.

Adell and Marsh for Glasnow. Who says no?
Mark P

The Angels, in a heartbeat

What would it take for the Marlins to get R. Maguire? How about Stallings? We need another catcher who hits some.
Mark P
9:11
Since the Jays are in a bit of a catcher crunch, I can't imagine there's too high a price tag on McGuire.  They don't want to lose him for nothing on waivers, but they also don't want next to nothing of a trade return.

Stallings is already 31 but he is controlled through 2023.
Sorry for the delay in responding there, I guess you could say I was STALLING for an answer!

......*crickets*
9:12
Anyways, Stallings has some team control and would have a decent-sized price tag, but not a ton.  But the larger issue is why the Marlins would necessarily want another catcher --- bit too early to give up on Alfaro
Clever Name

Are they doing all the normal All-Star stuff this year? Put masks on the kids chasing the HR Derby balls?
Mark P
9:14
The "kids on the field" stuff is very likely out, but other than that, I can see MLB trying to have as relatively normal an All-Star experience as possible.

Rumors of Vaughn getting an extension before the season. Do you like the way the white Sox have been extending prior to careers
Mark P
9:17
It's an interesting strategy, and I think ultimately worth the investment from a team's perspective.  Jimenez, Robert, Vaughn are blue-chip prospects the White Sox are quite certain are going to at least be good MLB regulars, and at best they'll be stars.  Why not make that early commitment?
Shane Greene
9:18
Hey this is Shane. Am I taking a one year deal at this point?
Mark P
9:18
I think the question at this point might be if Greene even gets a MLB contract

see there, Pirates hitting is going to knock your socks off
Mark P
9:19
As a fan of randomness and surprise, nothing would amuse me more than seeing the Pirates emerge out of absolutely nowhere and win the NL Central.

But I have a feeling my socks will remain on for the remainder of the 2021 season.
Uh, metaphorically, that is.
Degrom
9:20
So Degrom because of his age isnt gonna reach the normal bench marks to be in the Hof, how many more Cy Youngs or dominant years does he need to be considered a lock?
Mark P
9:22
You're assuming that future voters won't also adjust their usual standards based on modern pitching usage.  if deGrom has, say, two more seasons like this, it's going to be pretty hard for voters to ignore this Koufax-ian run

Drew Pomeranz....  how bad do you think this injury is?
Mark P
9:23
The MRI said no structural problems, so he and the Padres may have avoided the worst: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/03/bullpen-notes-pomeranz-clippard...

Surely freeman signs and extension to stay in ATL right ? Assuming so any idea what the yrs and dollars will be?
Mark P
9:25
Seems like everyone is throwing out the Goldschmidt extension as a comp (five years, $130MM), but Ken Rosenthal made the point the other day that Freeman could get more because he's a Braves lifer.  Sort of that same "lifetime player" type of bonus we saw with Perez and the Royals.

Why is Michael chavis immediately thought of as a bust with his one bad season being during that wierdcovid year last year?
Mark P
9:26
As I scroll through my 20th Jo Adell trade proposal, maybe fans are too quick to pass judgement on prospects who aren't immediate stars?
Keba
9:27
The Jays prospects look better this year...Do you think they can get Castillo or is it more realistic to aim for Gray?
Mark P
9:28
The Reds aren't exactly in rebuild mode.  Just because they were open to listening on Gray doesn't mean they're in a rush to trade him....maybe just gathering intel, or maybe learning which prospects other teams are willing to move
Not since 2009
9:29
Will Cashman's job ever be in question if NYY goes another few years without a championship?
Mark P
9:30
There seemingly hasn't been any rumor of Cashman being on the hot seat, despite the (ahem) "championship drought" of 11 whole seasons.  Ownership seems to like what he's doing.

Did you see the Snyder cut?
Mark P

I'm not going to watch a four-hour version of a movie I didn't like the first time.

How can you compare DeGrom to Koufax ? Where are his playoff performances ?
Mark P
9:33
It's not deGrom's fault the Mets haven't been reaching the postseason.
