Egbert Souse

why didn’t the Bucs sign Watson—so that with Holmes and him in the bullpen—all mysteries would be solved?
Mark P
8:59
It's elementary, my dear Egbert.  The Pirates are taking a rather irregular approach to spending on players this year.
Dayton
8:59
What’s up with my team!? Is the Rangers pitching that bad or is my teams hitting that good?
Mark P
9:00
(Dayton = Royals GM Dayton Moore)

Again, it's only been a few games.  But for people who had the Royals as a dark-horse wild card pick, this has been a fun few days.
Kurt

NL MVP ?  Juan Soto or Tatis?
Mark P
9:00
My pick was actually Acuna, but anything of the three could easily take the award.
KeBrayan Hayes
9:00
Is his hand injury serious?
Mark P
9:01
X-rays were negative, so Hayes has escaped the worst.  An IL stint is still possible if there's some swelling and the Pirates want to make sure he's completely recovered.

Why isn’t Hosmer playing?
Drew
9:04
Anything doing with a Conforto or Syndergaard extension at this point?
Mark P
9:05
Oops, had two questions at once there.  Re: Hosmer, he's probably just sitting against a left-handed starter.

Re: Mets.  Conforto seems like a no-go now that the season has begun.  For Syndergaard, not sure both sides totally line up for an extension unless the Mets were very confident in his ability to stay healthy and Thor was less sure.
Champdo
9:06
Could we see the Tigers give an extension to a guy like Willi Castro, Boyd, or Skubal
Mark P
9:06
Castro or Skubal quite possibly, likely not Boyd
Curious
9:08
Why do teams trade for "prospects" if very few return any value?  Why not trade for someone who is MLB ready?
Mark P
9:08
Teams are a lot less willing to deal MLB-ready players away, most of the time
Michael Scotts Foreman Grill

You take over as GM of the Dbacks, what’s the first 3 moves you make to make them perennial contenders?
Mark P
9:11
Apart from "petition MLB to get the Dodgers and Padres moved out of the division," I'm not sure the D'Backs are exactly on a wrong track.  The front office took the stance that 2020 was something of a Murphy's Law aberration of a season, which might indeed be correct.

When will the field of dreams tickets go on sale? You gotta know something!
Mark P
9:13
After checking my driver's license, my name is not Ray Kinsella, so I have no news.
Alex
9:13
Any updates on Michael Brantley after the HBP to his hand?
Mark P
9:14
X-rays were negative
Another day-to-day type situation there

9:14
Would 10/350 be enough to get Corey Seager to Seattle to pair with his brother?
Mark P
9:14
That makes the assumption that Kyle Seager will still be a Mariner beyond 2021.
Owens
9:16
Thoughts on the David Fletcher extension?
Mark P
9:16
Seems like a really good deal for the Halos, Fletcher is an underrated player
Ryan B.
9:17
Does Nelson Cruz have a case for HOF or does the PED suspension pretty much put him out.
Mark P
9:18
He definitely has a case, but I agree the PED suspension would probably keep him out if he was on the ballot right now.

However, who knows how voters' minds could evolve on this subject as time goes by.  Also, Cruz may never retire!
CBA
9:18
How long does new CBA take to finalize and when do he’s the process start?
Mark P
9:20
If I recall from the last CBA talks, the new deal goes into effect pretty much immediately, which could make things awkward in the offseason since the rules could change significantly in December.

If by "the process," you mean when does the league and the union start negotiating things, I would really hope they start talking as soon as possible given the huge number of details that will be address

Gleyber’s best position is likely 3B. Why not move him there if they sign a SS. Urshela is a nice trade piece now.
Mark P
9:22
That might also be an option, though Urshela has been such a find that the Yankees probably want to hang onto him.
9:23
Plus, I've written this before, but the Yankees don't seem overly concerned by having "too many" good players on hand for a positional crunch.  They like having the depth, and given all the injuries they've faced in recent years, everyone seems to find enough playing time
Who stays?
9:25
rank in order who you think will be a Cub opening day 2022. Baez, Bryant , Contreras, Rizzo
Mark P
9:26
Rizzo seems likeliest.  Contreras and Baez are about tied, then there's a big drop to Bryant in fourth place.
Timmy Youngbar
9:26
Is Trevor Story going back to the Rockies in the off-season
Mark P
9:27
We've seen the Rockies pay big for extensions in the past, but if they're in a position where they have to outbid the market, it seems likely that Story will be playing elsewhere.

Beyond just the money, Story might also just prefer to play for a team that looks to be a viable contender sometime soon
9:28
Bah, there goes the no-hitter. Oh well!
Guest
9:30
If you were Javy Baez would you risk signing a cheaper contract or become a FA and possibly get a huge contract with teams bidding on all the  FA SS?
Mark P
9:32
That's certainly another factor in Baez's thinking, and probably in the minds of Seager, Story, Semien to some extent, and probably Correa though he seems like a lock to hit free agency.
