Gilbert probably isn't that far away.  McClanahan is someone I see getting pretty regular starts for Tampa by season's end, but as to when they'll actually call him up isn't yet clear.  Probably closer to midseason?

I think what we're seeing here is exactly why the Padres seemingly having "too many players" was a good thing.  Suddenly all that depth doesn't look so deep when you get an injury, or if one or two guys struggle, but SD has been able to stay the course.

Basically nothing can be ruled out at the deadline given how aggressive Preller has already been.  If the Cubs are still willing to move Bryant (and the Padres offer more than the value of a qualifying offer pick), I can see a deal like that happen

I suspect Franco will be called up before the end of the 2021 season.  And it'll be interesting to see what Tampa does with Adames, since shortstop-needy teams might prefer one of the big free agents this winter, but Adames also stands out as a cheaper backup plan.
Or, since this is the Rays, they keep both guys and just use Adames or Franco as a multi-positional infielder

I tend to lean towards trade, but having a lot of OF talent on hand is never a bad thing.  I wonder if Haniger would be more amendable to an extension and some long-term security after his nightmare of the previous two seasons

Hard to say, since their front office's internal evaluations on players could be more surprising than a layman's view of things.  Or, maybe more personal factors could play a role......say, if LeMahieu lobbies hard for his old teammate Story
Not that the Yankees would take Story over Seager, Correa, etc. just based on LeMahieu's testimony, but as a potential tiebreaker, maybe
