Stanton is hot very early this year, he usually doesn’t get really going to July. If he stays healthy, what does his year look like?
Mark P

It'll be an MVP-caliber year, most likely.  Stanton's only real problem has been staying on the field....when he has played, even in his injury-plagued years, he has still been a tremendous hitter

How come Américans call it the World Series when it is only in competition in the USA?

Percent chance Cubs go scorched earth and field a AAA team at Wrigley from June 2021 to September 2022?
Mark P
10:03
I don't see it happening.  Notwithstanding the 2016 season, it seems like Chicago fans have lost patience with ownership, and won't stomach another complete rebuild over multiple seasons (especially when they see other big-market teams like the Red Sox seemingly able to bounce back after one bad year).
10:04
Now, this doesn't mean the Cubs won't actually rebuild.  It just means they won't be public about it, and they'll keep talking about making changes or potential payroll flexibility while all the while acting like a team that really wants to rebuild.

We've had 4 no hitters already this year.  Single season record is 7, set in 1990, 1991 and 2015.  Think it falls?
Mark P
10:05
My guess is yes.  We're over halfway to the record already, and there's also the possibility that MLB bends and retroactively awards Bumgarner a no-hitter, making it five no-nos for the year.

Is it time for us to promote Jared Kelenic?

Could Mariner fans see Jarred Kelenic called up this next week?
Mark P
10:07
Obligatory "we'll have to attend next week's rotary club meeting to find out" joke.

I'd be very surprised if Kelenic wasn't in Seattle by June 1 at the latest.

Which currently wretched team will be first to get back to the playoffs, Tigers or Rockies?
Mark P
10:08
I'd vote the Tigers, just because the AL Central is a weaker division and because they're further down the road in their rebuild. Whereas we don't yet know if the Rox have fully admitted they should be rebuilding.

Posey HOF?
Mark P
10:11
If he keeps producing anywhere close to this for the rest of 2021, that might be enough to clinch a HOF case in the minds of many voters.  Narrative does play something of a role in HOF voting, even in today's more stat-oriented environment.

What do the blue jays need to do at the deadline to have a chance of truly competing?
Mark P
10:12
It would help if they could go a day without putting someone on the IL.  But overall, pitching, pitching, and more pitching.

Prediction on where Pujols ends up?

Where is Pujols going?

do you see albert  pujols playing again this season and could he land with a  american league east team
Mark P
10:14
Honestly, I think we've already seen Pujols' last MLB game.  To repeat my earlier point, no team would go anywhere near a player with Pujols' age and recent track record, under normal circumstances.  If he was signed somewhere, it would almost seem to be under purely sentimental circumstances, or if a team gets just crushed by injuries at the 1B/DH spot.

And on that note, let's wrap up tonight's chat. Thanks for all the questions!
