This might be the most hotly-contested poll in Sunday chat history...
9:23
Who's the funnier character?

Kramer (55.8% | 211 votes)

George (44.2% | 167 votes)

Total Votes: 378
Dave Roberts
9:23
On a scale of 1-10 how secure is my job?
Mark P
9:24
I don't see how the Dodgers' slump can be blamed on Dave Roberts, so I'd say pretty close to 10

What do you think it would take the Mets to lock Thor in for this year and the two following years?  Seems a bit hit if he and Stro both leave.
Mark P
9:27
I'm sure Syndergaard would be open to contract offers given his health situation, but he also isn't likely to shortchange himself.....Thor is certainly counting on performing like a top-level ace upon his return, and thus being paid like an ace in free agency this winter.

So unless Thor was willing to take a team-friendly discount (which I doubt), I'm not sure the Mets have much incentive to pursue such an extension.  After all, they don't know how he'll bounce back from TJ surgery.

True or false: If deGrom was to win not just the Cy Young this year, but also the MVP, he would never need to throw another pitch to get to Cooperstown.
Mark P
9:28
This is only deGrom's eighth season, so the HOF would need to bend on the 10-year minimum.
Grover Cleveland

Odds my city replaces Jake Bauers with Albert Pujols? I roll over in my grave every time Bauers takes the field
Mark P
9:31
To be pedantic, "your city" is either Caldwell, New Jersey or a variety of cities in New York.

BUT, moving onto the actual baseball content, Pujols has a lower WAR (-0.3) than Bauers (-0.2) this season.
9:32
(Fun history moment for this Canadian, learning that Cleveland wasn't named after Grover Cleveland.)

Has Vlad shown enough athletic improvement to give him another extended look at 3B? in my opinion he has, it'd be too good of an opportunity to ignore
Mark P
9:34
Barring an injury to Biggio or Bichette, that's probably not going to happen.  I think the Jays should be very pleased with his improvement at first base (to say nothing of his breakout at the plate) and maybe not try to push it with a move to 3B

Is George Springer already a bust?
Mark P
9:34
Not even six weeks into a six-year contract?

I know you hate Adell trades...but with Walsh starting to cement himself, I think now more then ever Adell and/or Marsh becomes more expendable in a trade for some pitching. Something needs to happen!!
Mark P
9:37
Yes and no, since Walsh might be better suited for first base in the long run, so he isn't exactly a long-term fix in the corner outfield.

Are the Red Sox for real?
Mark P
9:39
My vote is yes.  Keep in mind that the entire story of the last Red Sox decade has been "they're terrible, they need to rebui...oh whoops, they won the World Series, maybe they're great.  Whoops, no, they're terrible again, bring on the rebui....hang on, they might be the best team ever....nope, I was wrong, rebuild!"
In short, nobody should be surprised if the Sox immediately pivoted from being terrible in 2020 to being Series contenders this year
Mike Scott
9:41
Who is more valuable right now, Trout or Acuna?
Mark P
9:41
In pure "value" terms, Acuna due to age and contract.
Dale

I would really like to get Brandon Marsh on the Cubs. Give me a trade that works.
Mark P

Marsh headlining a trade package for Kyle Hendricks

Were there any other teams who were even close to signing Shane Greene or were the Braves the only club seriously interested?

How long until JJ Bleday gets called up?
Mark P

I suspect he'll be in Miami by season's end

Do you think the Yankees could pry Jesse Winker from the Reds?
Mark P
9:47
I think Winker would be one of the last guys the Reds would move if they decided to be deadline sellers, but the Yankees could surely make a big enough offer to get Cincy's interest.  That said, is adding another outfielder really what NYY needs right now?
Steve Adams
9:48
Hi Mark. With so much negative publicity how how the Los Angeles Angels front office handled Albert Pujols's release, could it hamper and negatively impact the teams ability to sign future players ?
Mark P
9:49
I'm not sure the publicity was necessarily "negative" as much as it was a tone of "it's too bad it came to this."  It's not like the Angels didn't give Pujols time to get things on track, and nobody can argue that Pujols should be getting at-bats over Ohtani and Walsh in 2021.

Will the Chicago White Sox pitching keep them in contention for the play-off until Roberts and Jimenez get back or does Rick Hahn need to trade for an outfielder ?
Mark P
9:51
As someone who wasn't totally wild about the Adam Eaton signing, the ChiSox probably needed more outfield help even when Robert and Eloy were healthy

9:52
Are you surprised teams aren't being more creative and aggressive in trying to exploit shifts?  Is this too far outside the bounds for a homogeneous league?
Mark P
9:54
I'm not the first to say this, but it's hard to hit the other way.  It's also hard for a player who has honed his swing to have a high launch angle, maximize hard contact, etc. to suddenly alter course mid-season to focus on contact of any kind at the expense of power.
Rockies fan
9:54
Do you see the Rockies diving the reings to someone like Josh Brynes, or do they sit it out with Bill Schmidt, a 61 year old veteran who's in his final leg?
Mark P
9:55
That's maybe a little dismissive of Schmidt, who seems to be a widely respected figure around baseball.  It isn't like Schmidt might not be an effective GM/PoBO now that he finally has a shot at a top job, but given everything we know about the Rockies' front office workings and the owner's influence, it sounds like they would be a lot better off with a fresh new voice

Is Luis Castillo’s pitching troubles just a rough stretch or has the league figured him out? Thanks as always
Mark P
9:58
There isn't a lot to like about Castillo's advanced metrics, so it's clear that this isn't just bad luck.  His recent comments suggest a problem with his changeup, and he has been using that pitch way more often than usual this season.
