Astros exposed after the series with Detroit?
Mark P
9:46
I'm not rushing to judgement after losing two of three games in a series

Is Max Kranick gonna be a long term guy in the rotation? Terrific debut today (would've gone perfect if it weren't for the rain)
Mark P
9:49
Kranick's minor league track record is only okay, but he was doing well enough that to earn a look.  And wow, talk about a first impression!

What type of prospect would the White Sox have to give up for the Nats Josh Harrison? A 15-20 type team org prospect? 20-25? Etc. Thanks.
Mark P
9:50
Maybe not even a ranked prospect at all, or a 25-30 type at most.

Is the next International Signing Day in January again? Will it be changed back to July in the future?
Mark P
9:53
Correct, the next int'l signing period opens in January 2022.  It is quite possible the whole international signing process is overhauled in the new collective bargaining agreement, so it's hard to determine when "signing day" (if there even is a day) happens in the future years

NBA Finals prediction?
Mark P
9:55
Phoenix, if everyone stays healthy and Chris Paul isn't saving his annual playoff swoon for the biggest stage yet.  The Hawks and Bucks just have too many holes to overcome the Suns, who have stayed the healthiest of anyone.

btw, I really enjoy that we got a totally random NBA playoffs for once.

Can the Red Sox really continue to stay at or near first place?
Mark P
9:56
I don't see why not.  Their record in close games might normalize to something closer to .500, or maybe they're just a team that's good in close games.
David Sterns
9:58
what do we do at the dead line! maybe moose form the Reds.
Mark P
9:59
(Stearns = Brewers GM)

Moustakas is hurt right now, and I'm not sure the Reds will be selling at all, let alone to a division rival.  I do think the Brewers will be looking to add a corner infield bat of some type, maybe an outfield bat as well depending on how healthy everyone is

SIGH

I keep picking against the Canadiens every round, so why not, I'll say Lightning in six and prepare for the parade down Rue Sainte-Catherine

Do the Orioles move Trey and/or Cedric at the deadline? What would they likely get back?
Mark P
10:06
I tend to think neither will be moved.  Not that Baltimore wouldn't or shouldn't be open to trading almost anyone in the organization, but Mullins is still controlled through 2025 and he's still only 26.

Mancini means so much to the fanbase and to the team that it would be a real downer if he was traded, unless there's some "let's give Trey a shot at a ring" sentiment.

Drafting a high school Shortstop with our First pick is as dumb as the Padres drafting Matt Bush ahead of Justin Verlander or Jered Weaver, right?
Mark P
10:08
Carlos Correa was also a high school shortstop, just saying.
Houston Bullpen Arms
10:09
Astros split a 4 game series with Detroit, not losing 2 of 3.  But I digress.  What arms in the bullpen do you envision the Astros going after and what type of cost do you envision prospect wise for them?
Mark P
10:11
My mistake!  The Astros are another team that seems intent on staying under the tax threshold, and they don't have a ton of room to spare.  But, if Odorizzi can work his way up to a normal SP worklord, the Astros can then shift someone (I guess probably Garcia?) into the bullpen, which would be a big boost.
10:12
Not to say that Houston won't get anyone at the deadline, but it very likely won't be a pricey or top-tier name.  The Astros are also less likely to move any prospects since they're still smarting from losing those draft picks.

I should start using Garrett Whitlock as an opener after the All-Star break and ramp him up to a starter’s workload by September.
Mark P
10:13
(Bloom = Red Sox chief baseball officer)

Part of me wants to say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" with Whitlock, but making him an opener seems like an easy enough adjustment

That's it for me tonight, thanks for all the questions!  Back next weekend with another chat
