The Mariners are a very interesting team to watch at the deadline, since they look like a perfect "seller AND buyer" candidate.  Haniger could be dealt to a team eager to win in 2021, while the M's pick up a younger player who might be ready to help Seattle win as early as 2022.

Am I wearing a Nationals jersey on July 31st?

Yes

What are your thoughts on the crew swinging a deal for Gallo. He can move around play a little 3rd/1st and OF. Gives them some big left handed power.
Mark P
8:32
Gallo hasn't played 3B in four years or 1B in three years, so I don't think he's exactly a true multi-positional guy.  But his bat sure would help the Milwaukee lineup, and upgrade the outfield considerably

If the Yankees do decide to sell, who is most likely to go? Green, Losiaga, Urshela or someone else?
Mark P
8:34
This is an interesting detail about the Yankees as sellers....they don't have any real rental player candidates.  Moving Urshela might be a good way to clear out the infield logjam to some extent, but the Yankees would probably prefer to move someone like Voit (if possible) to address that issue

I know he is hurt but why did glasnow not make the all star team?
Mark P
8:35
....because he's hurt.

Is Eduardo Escobar a possibility for the Nats, and would Kieboom+Denaburg be enough to get him?
Mark P
8:37
That's way too much for the Nats to give up for two months of a non-superstar rental player.

Hosmer and ch Abrams for badoo and grossman.  Who says no?
Mark P
8:39
Considering Abrams will miss the rest of the season, the Tigers say no.  Also Hosmer says no, since I'm guessing Detroit is one of the teams on his limited no-trade list.

Also the Padres say no, since they wouldn't have to give up that much for Baddoo and Grossman.  I hesitate to think that the Tigers would give up Baddoo anyway.

Inevitable Aaron Rodgers trade?! Hold your tongue!

I'm a Packers fan.  I've been expecting it since the day after the NFC Championship Game.

8:41
Who do you realistically see Toronto adding? Will they shop in the higher end of the market or make smaller movesv
Mark P
8:42
I can see a "higher-end" type of move made, assuming that such a move entails acquiring a player with multiple years of control.  The Jays are playing the long game and don't have to necessarily go all-in for 2021.

Do the O’s take the best player on the board or do they go underslot and try to get more value in later rounds?
Mark P
8:45
According to the latest rumors, the O's are planning an underslot strategy again this year.

Kirk, Groshans, Wood-Richardson plus for J Ram?
Mark P
8:47
That's a good offer. But honestly, Ramirez is so valuable that I think the Tribe would say "that's a pretty nice start, so what else?"

What are the D'backs asking for the Chisox for escobar?
Jorge78
8:50
Mark!  Do you think expanded rosters for the All Star Game would be nice?  It would solve the "snubbed" problem.  The number of teams has almost doubled in 89 years but the roster number has not.  Just sayin'.....
Mark P
8:51
Oops, fired up another question before answering the other.

As per the latest reports, Escobar's quad injury has stalled talks between the two teams.  So whatever the D'Backs were asking for, it's off the table until Escobar shows he's healthy.

As for the ASG, you could make it a 40-man roster and there would still be snubs, since there are a lot of players having excellent seasons.  Besides, making the All-Star team means more if it's still something of an elite honor

Kimbrel to Jays? They have budget and a dire relief need.
Mark P
8:53
Kimbrel makes quite a bit of sense for the Jays, considering they might fit the "team who can just absorb his contract" scenario I mentioned earlier.

I like Rich Rodriguez and I could see the Dodgers moving Keibert Ruiz but to me 6 years of Ruiz is more valuable than 2.5 of Rodriguez by a good bit. Rodriguez plus a prospect or 2 for Ruiz?
Mark P
8:54
I would imagine if the Dodgers were open to moving Ruiz, it would be for a bigger trade piece than "only" a reliever (albeit a very good one in Rodriguez).  Maybe a controllable starter or position player.

It seems like all the years the Tigers drafted pitching, I was hoping they would draft position players.  Now it looks like they might draft a position player instead of a pitcher at #3. What will they really do?
Mark P
8:55
They should take the best player available.  Trying to draft for a specific position is often a fool's errand.  Besides, if they did take another pitcher, cliche alert: "you can never have enough pitching."

Cubs
8:58
Cubs said they have room to add salary at the deadline. Why would they ask teams to eat salary in exchange for worse prospects??? Seems like a bad take
Mark P
8:58
What the Cubs have said about their payroll capability over the last few seasons and what they've actually done are two very different things.

Here's a (non-trade) Adell question! Why do you think the angels haven't called him up? They keep playing infielders in the outfield who look out of place and he is raking in Salt Lake
Mark P
9:00
Given how shaky Adell looked in his first MLB exposure, I can understand the Angels wanting to be extra-sure he's ready before another call-up
Suns in 4
9:01
Let's hear your NBA analysis.....How many games for the Suns to close out the Bucks?
Mark P
9:02
Five or six, assuming Giannis doesn't play or comes back but is clearly not at 100 percent.  And also assuming that the Suns don't lose at least one star player to a major injury, which we can't rule out given how the rest of these playoffs have gone

One GM was quoted as saying that he did not want to do a trade for single-A level talent  until he saw what he got in the draft.  Sounds counterintuitive to me.  Your thoughts?
Mark P
9:03
Probably a bit of an exaggeration, but I think fans underestimate just how much the July 11 draft has impacted trade talks.
