Does Miguel Cabrera gets both his 500th HR and 3,000th hit this season?
Mark P
9:45
He needs two more homers and 54 hits.  Barring injury, I'll say for sure on the HR mark, and it'll be tight for the 3000th hit

Do you think the Astros lose out on free agents because of all the booing the team receives?
Mark P
9:46
"They're not saying boo, they're saying Houuuuu-ston!" -- Astros assistant GM Waylon Smithers

Who says no? Soto for Kelenic, Rodriguez, Kirby, and Marte.  Lerners refuse to pony up for bats…depressed Nats fan coming up with crazy trade ideas.
Mark P

If it makes you feel better, you won the World Series less than two years ago.  And Soto is so good that the Nats wouldn't even accept that wild trade package
Thor
9:50
Would I accept a QO, or even be offered one? Short term pillow deal?
Mark P
9:50
Seems like Syndergaard would absolutely accept a QO, but at this point, I question whether the Mets would issue it

what do you think the chances are the Giants re-sign Bryant? 5 years 110mil sound about right?
Mark P
9:53
The Giants would happily sign Bryant for five years/$110MM, but he'll want at least double that amount

Why does mlb give draft picks to small market teams and how is this calculated? Detroit had one this year and can clearly spend they have in the past
Mark P
9:55
As per MLB.com's Mike Rosenbaum, "Since 2017, Major League Baseball has used a formula that combines revenue, winning percentage and market score to award Draft picks to teams that fall in the bottom 10 in revenue or market size."

Was holding the draft during All-Star Week a good idea?
Mark P
9:56
I suspect most or all front offices would've happily preferred to keep the draft in June, since having both the draft prep, the draft signings, and trade deadline season all mashed into one month turns July into a gauntlet

Help us out with some context for that "the Mets had a prospect who had a fastball in the 150mph range" line...

Google "Sidd Finch" and all will be revealed

We need some offense with all our pitching. Angels seem like good trade partners. Is there any chance of a trade between the two clubs?
Mark P
9:58
The Marlins and Angels did talk trades leading up to the deadline, reportedly including a Brandon Marsh/Max Meyer swap: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/marlins-discussed-trades-involv...
9:59
It'll be interesting to see if they link up on a deal this offseason, since you're right, they seem like a natural match.  Meyer-for-Marsh would've been a lot of fun

Does Miguel need 500 and 3000 to make the Hall?
Mark P
10:01
Nope.  He could retire right now and easily sail into Cooperstown
2021 CBA
10:02
So is this off-season covered by this CBA's QO system or the next CBA's system?
Mark P
10:02
Covered by the current CBA.  Changing the rules entirely in December wouldn't be fair to anyone
Natsman
10:04
The Nats need bullpen help more than a shortstop.
Mark P
10:04
They've needed bullpen help for around a decade, seems like.  Still didn't stop them from winning a title.

Is Luis Rojas really going to be the mets manager come Tuesday? If we can't pick this up, what changes do you expect in the offseason?
Mark P
10:06
I wouldn't be shocked if a new manager is running the Mets next year, but an impulsive firing seems a little drastic.  Frankly, such a move probably wouldn't auger well for how Cohen plans to run the franchise.
10:08
Time to wrap things up for the evening.  Thanks for all the questions!  Back next weekend.
