Knowing how Anthopoulos operates, I could imagine he has checked in on just about any even semi-available player on any non-competitive team.

Do you see San Francisco resigning Gausman? Will they work out an extension with Posey or just pick up the 22m option?
Mark P
9:15
Bart (and Bailey, waiting in the wings) make a long-term extension with Posey unlikely, but an extension of something like two years would seem to work.  Though Bart is probably MLB ready right now, they could use him and Posey at first base to keep both of them fresh.

As for Gausman, I don't see why the Giants wouldn't have interest in re-signing him.  It'll cost a pretty penny, but he has clearly shown top-of-the-rotation stuff

What do yo think does Kershaw come back to the Dodgers or go play by his home in Texas
Mark P
9:16
I suspect Kershaw is a Dodger for life

Morgan and Quantrill have quietly been really good the last month.  Who would be more likely to be traded if they continue  Bieber/Plesac/Civale ?
Mark P
9:18
None of the above.  After this year especially, Cleveland will want all the pitching depth possible. Bieber is only entering his first arb year and Plesac/Civale aren't even arb-eligible yet, so the Tribe doesn't have to worry about them getting expensive for a while yet

what happened with porcello in 21? why did nobody sign him
Mark P
9:20
Porcello has ranged from okay to mediocre for four seasons, so it could be that teams simply weren't all that interested (or not interested at whatever his asking price was)

What is a pillow contract?
Mark P
9:21
A short-term (usually a one-year) contract signed by a player coming off an unimpressive platform year.  The idea is that the player inks a one-year deal rather than a long-term deal in order to re-establish their value, then they aim for the big contract the next offseason.

Marcus Semien's deal with the Blue Jays last winter is a good example

9:22
Why not just take what we can get for Story, Gray, Cron and whoever else is eligible for FA after this season?
Mark P
9:22
Because Rockies management inexplicably seems to think this team is closer to contention than they actually are

Any chance a’s resign marte ? This guy has changed everything for the A’s !
Mark P
9:25
Marte will want more than Oakland is willing to spend, barring an uncharacteristic splurge from ownership
110mph
9:25
Can any pitcher ever reach 110 on radar gun? Seems not so long ago 100 was rare. Now most bullpens have several arms capable of 100
Mark P
9:26
Heck, back in the mid-80's, the Mets had a prospect who had a fastball in the 150mph range
Blue Jays
9:26
Do you really think the Jays did the right thing by trying to go for it this year with so many teams in front of them? They gave up a lot for Berrios, who I know is under control next year but that was a lot of talemt.
Mark P
9:27
Considering the Jays have only lost two games since the trade deadline, I think they definitely made the right call
Rebuilds
9:28
Cubs vs Nats, who do you think is better off for the future?
Mark P
9:28
What team is better off for the future?

Cubs (22.6% | 100 votes)

Nationals (77.4% | 343 votes)

Total Votes: 443
Personally, I'll vote for the team that already has Juan Soto

will the dh be in the nl in 2022

99% yes

9:31
Do the Pirates try and add a few mid price free agents to take their rebuild to the next phase? Maybe a reunion with Cutch?
Mark P
9:31
Pittsburgh is another team that is still at least a year away from doing anything more than minimal spending in free agency.  As fun as a reunion with McCutchen would be, he's hungry to play for a winner, not rejoin a team that is still rebuilding

With Luciano projected for a 2023 debut and Crawford on a contract year, who would you guess is playing shortstop for the Giants in 2022?
Mark P
9:32
Crawford. I think he'll re-sign a short-term (two years with an option?) deal as the bridge to Luciano.

9:33
Is Hosmer a Padre in 2022? If not, where does he end up?
Mark P
9:35
Hosmer has a 10-team no-trade clause, and he gets full 10-and-5 rights after 2022.  So the Padres are running out of time to move him, if they can find a deal.

San Diego still has the prospect depth to attach as a sweetener for Hosmer, or the Pads could look to take on another ungainly contract from another team.
9:36
But, it's easier said than done to find such a landing spot.
Cards fan in GA
9:36
Any chance the Cardinals kick the tires on Kris Bryant? He could be a super utility guy especially if they add the DH to the National League. He can play all four corner positions and center field. I mean is St. Louis too boring for him?
Mark P
9:38
If Bryant really did have hard feelings towards the Cubs, there would be no better way to get revenge than to sign in St. Louis.  However, since Arenado and Goldschmidt are locked into the corner IF spots, Bryant's versatility isn't as big an asset with the Cards as it would be on other teams.  A DH spot would help, since the Cards could then rotate everyone around to keep them fresh.
Philly A's
9:38
Since laureano's suspension runs into 2022 would he be eligible for the post season in '22?  And do the A's go on fire sale this off season with the stadium fiasco and lack of payroll and lack of prospects?
Mark P
9:40
Laureano is only ineligible for the 2021 postseason, if I'm not mistaken.

"Fire sale" is a stretch, since while a lot of key A's players are getting arbitration raises, they also have a lot of money coming off the books with free agents.  Not to say that they won't have a lot of roster holes to fill this winter, but Beane/Forst and company have been creative about such maneuvering in the past
J.D. Martinez
9:42
Opting out or staying put for 1 more year at $19.35m? Looks like the decision will have to be made pryor to a new CBA being agreed to & the decision on the DH in the NL.
Mark P
9:42
I'd lean towards him staying put.
Field of Dreams game
9:43
I am watching Field of Dreams on tv right now. When is that Field of Dreams game supposed to be and who is playing in it?
Mark P
9:43
It's coming up this very Thursday, White Sox vs. Yankees.
