The game was really cool, both in terms of the on-field excitement and the entire atmosphere.  It seems like MLB will make the Iowa game an annual event, and rightly so
Ghost of Chats Past
8:53
A year ago, in this very chat, somebody asked you if Alec Mills was the most unlikely no-hit pitcher in history, and you, rightly, said not even close.  Now, where would you put Tyler Gilbert in the least-likely-no-no rankings?
Mark P
8:54
Pretty close to the top.
Giants GM
8:55
Why did they re-sign Crawford when they could’ve had Seager or Correa?
Mark P
8:57
Crawford is having as good or better of a season than either of those two, plus he is a known SF quantity, and he came at a much cheaper price tag.  Marco Luciano will be ready for the bigs within another year or two, so Crawford is the perfect bridge to what the Giants hope will be their shortstop of the future.

Plus, if other teams are focused on the shortstop market, the Giants can now spend their money elsewhere
Carlos Correa
8:58
Have seen reports of what he wants, but what do you think it actually takes? And does Houston resign him?
Mark P
8:59
I think the Astros have been quietly positioning themselves to lose Correa, as in staying under the luxury tax threshold so they can maximize their draft pick return on him signing elsewhere (as a QO free agent).
Beer Town

Do you think the Brewers have a better shot at winning the world series this year than in 2018?   It's hard to imagine a better Brewers team than the 2018 roster, but this year everything seems to be clicking
Mark P
9:02
The Brewers seem perpetually underrated, even though they've been more or less running away with the NL Central for a couple of months now.  They are definitely World Series contenders.
Mike
9:02
When will the Orioles be relevant??
Mark P
9:02
2025 is my guess
9:03
This is as scorched-earth of a rebuild as can be

Dodgers have some important decisions after this year. Which of the following do you think they bring back? Seager, Kershaw, Taylor, Jansen.
Mark P
9:05
I suspect Kershaw remains a Dodger for life.  Taylor is such a good fit for how LA likes to construct its roster that I can see them paying him big bucks to stay.

My guess is that the other two are gone.  The Turner trade may be the Dodgers making plans to fill the shortstop vacancy already, while Jansen might not be that viable a closer going forward.

Yankees, Jays, Red Sox......who does not make the playoffs?
Mark P
9:06
It hurts me to admit this as a Jays fan, but I think the team gave away too many games early in the season and will fall short of a playoff berth
Chris
9:08
Why hasn't Jerry dipoto gotten an extension yet?
Mark P
9:08
There is some speculation that he has already been extended, but the M's just haven't announced it yet
Still a Giants fan
9:09
Thank you for these chats. Its nice to read this stuff while I'm on my breaks at work. We appreciate you
Mark P
9:09
Much obliged!
Cards fan
9:09
Are the Cardinals done ?
Mark P
9:09
A six-game winning streak would seem to indicate otherwise
Tigers fan
9:11
Breaking News: Torkelson and Greene got promoted to AAA Toledo.
Mark P
9:12
For those unaware, these two Tigers prospects have been crushing the ball at Double-A.  The future is getting brighter in Detroit
Charkip
9:13
Most likely cities for relocation if Tampa and Oakland end up leaving
Mark P
9:13
Las Vegas, Charlotte, Nashville, Portland, maybe Austin as a dark horse
Reds fan
9:14
Should I give up all hope of Senzel ever playing on a regular basis, let alone contributing as hoped?  This guy is perpetually hurt.
Mark P
9:15
Senzel stands out as a major what-if, not just because of all the injuries, but because it seems like the Reds really messed with his development by trying him out at almost every position on the diamond rather than just settle him in one place.
9:16
This said, Senzel is also only 26.  It's not like he's a lost cause just yet, but there's certainly a lot of disappointment thus far
Dayton Moore
9:16
Dayton Moore is gonna get fired, right?
Mark P
9:17
I doubt it.  Moore seems to have perpetual job security in KC
Skeptic
9:19
I still dont buy into the giants.I think they get bounced from playoffs quickly.Whats your take?
Mark P
9:20
Even if they lost in the first round or lost a wild card game, that doesn't suddenly make their season a failure.  They've already exceeded expectations by a large degree, and they've set themselves up very well for the future
AA
9:21
I see you list the Pirates as two years away from contention. Could i get them to move Reynolds? Would be quite an outfield with Acuña and Reynolds here
Mark P
9:22
AA = Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos

If the Braves went wild and dealt the Pirates their best three or four prospects, sure, the Pittsburgh front office would have interest.  But it would take that kind of massive trade package to do it, so I think Reynolds might be one piece the Bucs actually retain
KC
9:24
in your opinion… who made the best trades at the deadline? Look at overall production and record
Mark P
9:24
Right now my pick is Starling Marte as the best deadline add.  Both he and the A's have been absolutely red hot since he came to town
Red Sox
9:26
Now that we have reset our luxury tax bill do we go out and spend this offseason?
Mark P
9:27
I'd imagine yes, but the spending could come in the form of perhaps one big signing, rather than a real splurge.
Nate
9:28
Have any thoughts on where Correa ultimately winds up if Houston and now Sam Fran aren’t happening? And what kind of context it would ultimately take?
