Are the Orioles really in a rebuilding mode, or are they just perennially terrible in the past few decades?  Keep the streak alive!
Mark P
8:25
People forget that the O's made the playoffs three times between 2012-16.  If I recall correctly, they won the most games of any team in baseball during that five-year period.

Will the Yankees play Stanton in the OF to keep Voits bat in the lineup at DH?
Mark P
8:25
The Yankees would love to play Stanton in the OF as much as possible, but it all depends on how his body responds to the extra wear and tear

What do you think the Mets will do with Zack Scott?
Mark P
8:28
If ownership still has an inkling of bringing in a new president of baseball ops to take over from Alderson, I would imagine the new PoBO would prefer to have his own GM in place, rather than take on Scott.  By all accounts Cohen and company like what Scott has done, but I'm not sure that would necessarily stand in the way of bringing in a top-tier name to run the front office.

Do you see the Yankees trying to extend Judge on a team-friendly deal after the season or taking it another year and making him show he can stay healthy? What type of deal do you think he's looking at?
Mark P
8:30
The Yankees don't usually extend players, but if it's for a "team-friendly" extension, sure they'd be open to keeping Judge.  Of course, that begs the question of why Judge would accept such a contract.

Can you explain 10/5 rights, please? Is the 10 years measured by service time, or the number of years the player appeared in the majors, regardless of how many days were actually spent in the majors? Thanks!
Mark P
8:31
The 10 years are indeed measured by service time, which is why you'll see players hit the official 10-year mark partway through a season.

Is Eric Hosmer a dfa candidate in the offseason?
Mark P
8:33
No way do the Padres just eat all of that money.  They'll see if they can trade him somewhere, perhaps in a bad contract swap of some sorts.  But they're not going to just absorb four years of salary.
Dennis31ct
8:34
what do you see the Red Sox doing did they mess up at the trade dead  line
Mark P
8:35
I expected the Sox to do more at the deadline, yet it's not like they didn't do anything.  Rightly or wrongly, however, this will be the narrative, and I do believe there is some kind of psychological impact on players when they feel their front office isn't "going for it" whole-heartedly.

Is Javier Baez a candidate to sign with Toronto on a deal similar to Semiens?
Mark P
8:38
Finding "another Marcus Semien circa 2020" would be an interesting way for the Jays to counteract possibly losing the actual Semien.  Taking a one-year pillow contract might appeal to Baez rather than shortchange himself on a lower-AAV multi-year deal

Eric Hosmer for Jason Heyward who says no?
Mark P
8:39
Maybe the players themselves....Heyward has full no-trade protection and Hosmer has partial no-trade protection.

Brandon Hyde’s job isn’t on the line during this losing streak right? Just don’t want to be caught by surprise
Mark P
8:43
I doubt Hyde's performance is being graded on wins and losses, given how extensive this rebuild is
Twins Fan
8:44
With Maeda looking like he's going to the IL with possible elbow issue, what do you see the Vikings doing with the pitching staff this offseason.
Mark P
8:45
I suspect Vikings fans are in 100 percent agreement that the Twins should take on Kirk Cousins' contract and convince him to take up pitching

8:46
Flaherty, Hudson, Mikolas, Wainwright, maybe Reyes,, maybe Happ,, retool the bull pen,,, is this the way the Cardinals go or do they go for a big time starter
Mark P
8:47
The Cardinals should definitely be on the lookout for more pitching depth, especially after all their injuries this year.  Landing one "big time" arm and maybe another lower-tier free agent would help immensely.  Best-case scenario if everyone is healthy, they have a six-man rotation to keep everyone fresh
8:48
btw, I'm kind of just assuming that Wainwright re-signs again.  If the Cardinals are already being proactive and trying to extend Molina early, it's fair to guess they're doing the same with Wainwright

8:49
Can NYM trade Cano for another bad contract? 2 yrs left at 23M each
Mark P
8:49
Cano is another player with a full no-trade clause, so he's not going to accept going just anywhere the Mets can move him
Doug
8:50
Do players get embarrassed? Or does all the money that the Padres/Mets players are making stave off any real feelings?
Mark P
8:51
The notion that "players don't care, they're happy since they're so well-paid" doesn't make much sense to me.  Of course they care.  They've devoted their lives towards being professional baseball players, and it's no fun at all going through the grind of a losing season.

Lets have some fun: Padres keep Tatis in the OF and sign a top tier shortstop
Mark P
8:52
While I can't put such a move past AJ Preller, I would imagine Cronenworth would just become the everyday shortstop if Tatis did permanently change positions
Farhan Z.
8:54
Outside of re-signing Bryant and continuing to add pitching, do I make an honest effort to bring Starling Marte across the bay this off-season?
Mark P
8:54
Marte would be a great fit on many teams, but particularly in San Francisco

8:54
Field of Dreams game was a huge success , do you think it should be an annual affair? And should the White Sox be the host team each time?
Mark P
8:55
Seems like it will be an annual thing, though Cubs/Reds is next year's matchup, so maybe the two Chicago teams will alternate hosting duties
CBA Question
8:56
Can teams sign players if there is no CBA in place? When does the current CBA end?
Mark P
8:57
The current CBA expires on December 1.  If significant progress hasn't been made towards a new deal by then, the league will likely institute a transactions freeze.  If I recall from the last CBA talks, teams kind of held back on making huge moves but there was no official freeze, since a new deal was worked out relatively easily
