I like both, but football is my preferred viewing choice

Trevor Story or Kris Bryant to Seattle and Carlos Correa to Detroit? Thoughts?
Mark P
8:59
Any of these scenarios make sense, as a "we're ready to win" type of signing for a rebuilding team.
9:00
J.P. Crawford has done well enough that I kind of doubt the M's would aim to land a shortstop, so they could sit out the shortstop market and focus on other big position players like Bryant

7 inning double headers,, and designated hitter in NL, in the new CBA,, I think? what else you see coming?
Mark P
9:01
Manfred is on record as saying that seven-inning doublheaders will likely be no more.  I do think the universal DH will be in place for good
Re: Nats
9:03
Likelihood the next CBA reduces number of years of team control before free agency?
Mark P
9:04
Less than a 50 percent chance, I'd say.  Maybe only slightly less than 50.  This is something the players will push hard for, but the owners won't shorten the team control years without a significant concession

Jacob DeGrom won't be the greatest pitcher if he can't take turns to start. He's aging fast, what would he need to do to get in the Hall of Fame?
Mark P
9:05
DeGrom is in his eighth season, so he needs to hit the 10-year plateau first.  If he pitches only decently in 2022 and 2023 to get to the decade threshold....frankly, I think he'd still get in, since he's been so dominant in the other eight years.
9:06
It would be a Koufaxian HOF case, but a good case nonetheless

Is it just me or is Scherzer going to find difficulty if he wants to play in California for a contender? LAD has Kershaw to extend (easier if Bauer’s money is gone), will he view SF as real? SD has plenty of payroll as is, LAA are meh, OAK isn’t an option
Mark P
9:08
I think the Dodgers are very real contenders to re-sign both Kershaw and Scherzer.  They obviously don't mind exceeding the luxury tax threshold, and Urias/Buehler both making relative peanuts opens up a lot more space to spend on your rotation.

You gonna watch Field of Dreams TV show?

Since Michael Schur is involved, I'll give it a look

Do you really think The luxury tax will go under 200 mill? To me don't bite the hand that feeds you Sorry small market teams if there is no big fish The game sucks.NBA sucks without the Laker's Knicks Etc.
Mark P
9:11
Lowering the luxury tax has nothing to do with smaller-market teams wanting competitive balance --- it has to do with big-market teams wanting to limit their own spending

Do you see pujols ever signing with cardinals, before he retires
Mark P
9:14
I think a one-day ceremonial contract is a certainty.  As to whether or not the Cards would actually sign Pujols to play in 2022.....even with a DH spot available, I have doubts.
Pujols can still hit left-handed pitching, however.  Between having him as a part-timer and given his past ties as a STL legend, it isn't out of the question.
Josh
9:16
What team is Kluber on next year?
Mark P
9:17
Quite possibly the Yankees again.  He won't be terribly expensive and obviously he likes the infrastructure already in place
Not to say that he wouldn't get interest from other teams, but I have to imagine NYY are his first choice

Will LAD trade release Gavin Lux.?  No position for  him. W Trea T there seems no place plus he's overmstched at the big league level.  What say you?  Thx
Mark P
9:19
They're obviously not going to release him, and again, Lux is still an inexperienced player.  He has all of 471 plate appearances and 126 big league games under his belt.  It's too early to give up on him at age 23.

Will Josh Jung get called up in September?
Mark P
9:20
I would lean towards Jung debuting early in 2022, rather than this September

Belt gets a QO - who says no, Belt or the Giants?
Mark P
9:24
I kind of doubt the Giants issue Belt a QO, but it's an interesting case.  It's a lot of money to give to an oft-injured first baseman entering his age-34 season, but on the other hand, Belt is still very productive.  From a roster construction standpoint, I can see the Giants perhaps not wanting to lock first base up, and maybe use several players rotating through the position based on matchups (or if Posey needed a break from catching)
9:25
From Belt's perspective, I can also see him taking the QO to stay in a familiar, winning, environment.  He's already banked a lot of money in his career, so Belt might prefer to pass up the chance at a multi-year deal (not that a $19MM QO is chump change) and stay in SF

Castellanos would look good on the south side in RF in 2022.
Mark P

Adding Castellanos to that already stacked White Sox lineup would be pretty wild

Crawford potential HoFer?
Mark P

Brandon Crawford?  A good player for a long time, but not a HOFer in my books
Rizzo
9:31
Will I sign Semian or Seager?
Mark P
9:33
(Nats GM Mike Rizzo)

It makes sense on paper, though it's worth noting that it has been a while Washington has made a major commitment to a free agent position player.  Free agent pitchers like Scherzer and Corbin, sure, but their spending on position players is far more modest.  Off the top of my head, I think Daniel Murphy was the Nats' biggest splurge since the Jayson Werth deal

Does 3yrs/45M sound reasonable for a Raisel Iglesias extension?
Mark P
9:35
It sounds reasonable, but I would think Iglesias would like to see if he can beat Hendriks' record $18MM in average annual value
