With SS stacked for the Mets in 2021 - will the Mets trade Mauricio for some veteran help?
Mark P

He seems like a good trade chip on paper, though it's hard to project the Mets' next moves until we see who their next PBO is

Given your familiarity with the Jays, in your opinion what would be an offer that they could make that would get the Guardians attention for J-Ram?
Mark P

Gurriel, Pearson, one of Moreno/Orelvis/Groshans, and another prospect in the 15-20 range
If this seems like a lot, Cleveland is asking for the moon and the stars in any Ramirez trade.

As a fellow jays fan, wondering you feel about this season.  In most cases, missing the playoffs in this way would be gutting.  I found this year to be fun until the end though and think the

I was discussing this recently with some friends....my generation of Jays fans actually isn't used to the idea of a gutting close finish in the regular season.  The Jays haven't had a year like this since 1990, when I was just a kid and they finished second in the AL East.  Ever since, Toronto either makes the playoffs whenever they're truly close, or they're never in the race whatsoever.

So after experiencing a close call like this for the first time in my adult life.....it stinks!  :)  My hope is that in a more normal 2022 season with the team in Toronto the whole year, the Jays can continue building and winning, but they have a lot to replace with Semien and Ray possibly both leaving.

Matt Chapman to Phils for Stott, Abel, Crouse, Verling?
Mark P

I suspect Oakland would do that deal in a heartbeat.  But that's way too much for the Phils to give up, especially for a team that is short on young talent as it is.  If you're doing all-in on a deal to clear out the farm, you'd want something more surefire than Chapman

What should I do with Mitch Haniger this offseason? Mitch is the most proven hitter expected to return from this year’s team, but he’s set to hit free agency next winter and Julio Rodriguez is lurking in the minors. Does a trade make sense to try and upgrade in the rotation or infield, or is an extension the sensible move?
Mark P

My vote would be to stand pat.  There's no guarantee that Rodriguez will be immediately good right away, Kelenic hasn't been good right away, and Lewis is a question mark after his injury-riddled year.

How willing are the Twins to trade Donaldson?  In my opinion he should’ve been moved at the deadline.  Good player, can help a team win, but also not getting younger.

These same reasons might've been why no team stepped up with an acceptable offer at the deadline.  The Twins plan to contend again in 2022, however, so I get why Donaldson is still in the fold.

How big of a mess does Atkins have on his hands this off-season?
Mark P

"Mess" is an exaggeration.  Most teams would love to have the Jays core in place, so a lot of the heavy lifting has already been done.

That's it for me tonight, thanks for all the questions!  Back next week with another chat
