Rendon has been with us for 2 seasons already, not one.
Mark P
6:31
True, but his 2020 season was very good.

Do the Cubs make a splashy move like Correa or Scherzer or is it just the bargain bin.
Mark P
6:33
A lot closer to the bargain bin than the high-rent district

Matt Olson to the Padres for Cronenworth, Robert Hassell, and Mackenzie Gore…who says no?
Mark P
6:33
Oakland says yes in a heartbeat, but why in the world would the Padres make that trade?
Mad Max
6:34
Will I get my 3 years 90 million demand?
Mark P
6:34
Barring injury, that seems like a very feasible get for Scherzer

If the Orioles "could trade" the number 1 pick in the draft, what type of return would it take in your opinion
Mark P
6:36
Interesting question.  In the case of a team like the Orioles, they would look to drop down in the first round and trade the 1-1 pick for multiple picks.

The other intriguing part of this is what team would want to make such an offer for the first overall pick.  Maybe one of the other teams in the top five or six falls in love with a particular player and really wants to ensure they get him.

No way I can bring Kimbrel back but does he have any trade value if I pick up his option or would I get more bang for my buck by declining the option and spending the savings on free agents?
Mark P
6:40
(Rick Hahn = White Sox GM)

I wouldn't say it's a sure thing Kimbrel's option is declined.  His ERA with the Sox is inflated by two bad outings (against the Cubs, of all teams), but he hasn't pitched badly overall.
6:41
If Kimbrel's option is declined, then the trade package the Sox gave up for Kimbrel looms even larger for just a few months of work.  That deal was made with the expectation that Kimbrel would remain on the South Side in 2022

As fun as it would be to trade draft picks I don’t see it happening with major changes to the draft. The reason why the number 1 pick is so valuable is because of the draft pool money not because of the position. How would the pool money work if the orioles traded down to get more picks? They would just draft someone who will take less money and take 1st round talents later in the draft.
Mark P
6:42
I would imagine that the draft pool system would also be overhauled, in the event of a scenario where draft picks are now allowed to be dealt.

I know CLE loves their defensive minded catchers, but do you see them upgrading the position next year?  We cant really suffer through another sub .180 year from that position, can we?
Mark P
6:44
Agreed.  For a team as cost-conscious as Cleveland, spending close to $9MM on a catching corps that provides so little offense seemed like an odd expenditure, as good defensively as Perez and Hedges are

6:45
With the CBA expiration do you think teams are more likely to sign free agents and tender contracts before Dec. 1 or wait to see what changes will come with the new agreement (whenever that may be)?
Mark P
6:47
It's hard to say.  I suspect some of the early extensions we've seen already have been done in part because players don't want to get caught up in a roster freeze or another uncertain offseason.

For aggressive teams like the Braves who like to make moves earlier in the winter, I can see them trying to seek out any free agents who might be more open to getting their business settled quickly.

Is Greinke even that big of a loss with an ERA over 4 and can't make the playoff rotation? Astros can do something better with 24 million they are paying him.
Mark P
6:49
Greinke's days as an ace are probably past him, but he is still a solid pitcher. 171 innings and a 4.16 ERA is nothing to sneeze at.
6:50
The Astros might look to re-sign Greinke at a lower price, in fact

Why do people think BA for catchers is important? Look around the league people catchers with .250 BA don’t grow on trees anymore.
Mark P
6:52
If this is in reference to the Cleveland catching question earlier, Perez and Hedges aren't good offensive players, no matter what stat you use.  You don't need to be Mike Piazza or anything, but you also need more from the position than Perez and Hedges' collective OPS+ in the 50 range

Do we see a new CBA before spring training or are we seriously looking a delay, or worse, potential cancelation of the 2022 Baseball season ?
Mark P
6:54
I think a work stoppage of some sort is possible, though I would like to think that even if the league and the MLBPA aren't all the way there yet on a deal, enough progress will be made that Spring Training can at least go ahead as scheduled while negotiations continue.

It isn't an exaggeration to say that a major work stoppage that erases some or all of next season would be a catastrophe for baseball, and might even spell the end of it as a major sport.

After Austin Riley’s breakout year. Do the braves try to sign him long term? Having him with Acuna, Albies and freeman (hopefully, I’m a braves fan so I’m nervous lol) that’s a pretty good 4 bats to have in your lineup.
Mark P
6:57
Riley is arb-eligible for the first time this winter, and he's given himself a very nice platform.  I suspect the Braves will definitely test the waters on an extension, but since Riley is controlled through 2025, there isn't much urgency.

Hey Mark, what do you think will happen with the Phillies coaching situation I don’t think enough people have been talking about it. Do they fire Girrardi?
Mark P
6:58
No reports about Girardi's job being in danger, so that doesn't seem like a possibility.

What are the chances Farhan signs Marcus Semien this off season?
Mark P
7:01
The Giants have the payroll space to be in the running for anyone, and Semien would make a ton of sense.  Bay Area roots, great player, great clubhouse presence, and if the price is right, he might be willing to stay at second base (due to Crawford's presence) rather than move back to shortstop

Speculating on SD Mgr. job you omitted Bochy???????
Mark P
7:03
I noted Washington as the likeliest candidate, just because he and Preller have a pre-existing relationship.  Bochy has longstanding ties to the Padres but not to Preller himself, or to the current ownership group

I'm asking this just for fun, and don't think for one second that he'll be traded.....but if Juan Soto were dealt this offseason what do you think the return would look like? For example, if the Mariners made a realistic offer, what would it look like? Thanks, and again this is just for fun!
Mark P
7:04
Kelenic, Julio Rodriguez, at least one of Kirby or Hancock (probably both)

What is going to happen in Charm City? Are the Orioles going to make a big splash or not?
Mark P
7:06
Don't expect much from the Orioles offseason.  I can see them spending a bit for a couple of veteran pitchers to eat innings, since their pitching corps was just so exhausted by the end of the year.

Thoughts on the potential Montreal/TB timeshare next season?
Mark P
7:09
It's not happening by next season since Montreal doesn't have a suitable ballpark (the Big O isn't going to suddenly be renovated).

And frankly, this idea still seems awfully far-fetched to me.  There are too many logistical issues.
