What are the chances they just extend the current CBA one year to get further removed from the pandemic and a better sense of where things stand in terms of revenue?
Mark P
7:36
Minutely slim to none

Moreno for alcantara…. Who says no? Marlins need catching, jays need start with 3 years control for their young core…… makes sense to me
Mark P
7:37
That would be the kind of blue-chip prospect the Marlins would want as a centerpiece in any Alcantara deal, if they did shop him

Why is the CBA so important?
Mark P
7:37
It covers virtually every aspect of the league's business

Mark, how soon do you see the royals contending for playoffs? Thanks for great work!
Mark P
7:40
Thanks!

I actually thought KC was a darkhorse to make the playoffs this season, but, c'est la vie.  (That's two "c'est la vies" for me in this chat already.)  It isn't out of the question the Royals can get into the hunt for 2022 if make some better veteran additions this winter and they get more development from the younger players, except the AL Central looks like it'll be more competitive.  Chicago will still be good, the Tigers are ramping up to contend, Cleveland and Minnesota could or should be better.

Who's fans are going to be the most disappointed when their favorite son decides to move on instead of signing an extension? (example: Carlos Correa & the Stros or Corey Seager and the Dodgers)
Mark P
7:43
I feel like LA fans have been preparing for Seager to move on as soon as Turner was acquired

Was kolten wong worth his contract?
Mark P
7:44
Most definitely.  Wong missed some time due to injury but he was still a very strong offensive and defensive player when healthy.

Sabean and Bochy to the Mets is getting some buzz...you think there is any chance that happens? Its reported Sabean is interested and him and Bochy by all accounts were pretty tight
Mark P
7:46
There hasn't been any indication that the Mets are necessarily interested in Sabean, however, as much as I'm sure he would love the job.  Sabean has a terrific resume, but I wonder if there's a perception in the industry that he's too old-school of an executive.  (Then again, the Mets also employ a veteran exec in Alderson.)

What does a trade for Matt Olson look like with a Yankees offer?
Mark P
7:49
For two years of Olson, the A's would want one of Volpe/Peraza, one good young pitching prospect (they'd ask for Gil or someone comparatively big league-ready) and probably at least one or two more prospects

Does making another World Series vindicate the Astros?
Mark P
7:50
In theory, yes.  In practice, no, given that every post we write about the Astros brings in a flood of "Trash cans! Cheaters" comments
Gausman to Rockies?
7:51
Wouldn't it make sense for the Rockies to go after Kevin Gausman? He's from Colorado so he likey knows how to pitch in the high altitude.
Mark P
7:52
Hometown familiarity notwithstanding, any free agent pitcher would want a premium to go to Colorado.  And Gausman will have plenty of options elsewhere, with teams that are better suited to contend in 2022

Last year were talks of getting Contreras.. chances that happens again for Marlins?
Mark P
7:53
I wouldn't rule it out, but I suspect Miami is targeting catchers who are more controllable.  Contreras is scheduled for free agency next winter.

Is Ketel Marte acquirable? Would it be short sighted to send a package headlined by Vaughn to cover the hole at 2B/RF with a plus switch hitting bat?
Mark P
7:56
Marte would be a great get for Chicago (or many teams), though it remains to be seen exactly how willing the D'Backs are to move him.  They've been publicly coy about their need to rebuild, even if Mike Hazen's more recent remarks have been pretty blunt about the team's situation.

That said, it would take more than Vaughn as a headliner to land Marte.  I'm not sure the White Sox have the young player depth to outbid the many other teams that would be making offers for Marte

We quietly need a catcher for 2022. Would the fits for Miami make similar sense for Detroit?
Mark P
7:57
Most definitely
Bob
7:58
Cmon Mark, Marte has to be worth $20+ AAV or even more.
Mark P
8:00
I can see teams offering Marte $20MM a year for a shorter-term deal, but you're right, four years/$80MM isn't really out of the question.

The compromise could be three years and a vesting option or something on a fourth season, though I suspect Marte will be able to find four guaranteed years somewhere
To be clear, that last question was about Starling Marte, not Ketel Marte.

What’re the chances the blue jays re-sign Robbie Ray? If so, what does the contract look like?
Mark P
8:01
I think Ray gets five years and somewhere in the $110MM-$120MM range.  Likely on the higher end of that range considering how many teams need pitching
2022 AL West
8:03
Is there going to be a team that will be able to compete with Houston in AL West next year?  I understand the excitement with Seattle, but they really seemed to of played way above their true level and seem to have a number of holes going into next year.
Mark P
8:04
Don't forget, the Astros might be losing some key personnel as well, plus everyone will be another year older.  Houston still has to be considered the favorite at this very early stage, but I can certainly expect the M's and A's to still be in the mix.

Any predictions for what will happen to Gallo this offseason/next year?
Mark P
8:06
I'd lean towards the Yankees keeping him.

Chances of trading Keirmaier?
Mark P
8:08
With KK only under contract for one more season, there's definite trade value there.  I'd say there's a better than 50 percent chance Kiermaier is on another team by Opening Day

Seems to me like Alex Dickerson is a good bet to be nontendered by the Giants. Who would be a reasonably priced good role playing lefty hitting corner outfielder to fill his spot?
Mark P
8:10
San Francisco has enough payroll and roster flexibility that they don't necessarily have to replace Dickerson with a) a corner outfielder, or b) even a left-handed bat, since they also have Yaz, Wade, and Duggar.
While the Giants love their depth, I could also see the team acquiring one everyday outfielder to totally cover one position.
