Florida Rays
8:12
with the 2 Florida franchises struggling to get fans into the stadiums MLB should move one to Montreal BUT have a 2 team draft to with all their players ( minors and majors) This way the Miami marlins and Rays fans can have 1 team to root for with combined players they’re fans of, also combining attendance at the stadium. Then Rename the team Florida Rays and maybe move them to Orlando. What do you think?
Mark P
8:13
I'm sure the people of Miami would love paying all that money for a ballpark that is no longer being used.
Cleveland Fan
8:14
do you think that a Jose Ramirez extension is realistic
Mark P
8:16
I would lean towards no, just because "the second extension" has so rarely been a tactic for Cleveland.  Their strategy has always been to lock up star players on early-career extensions, but then to trade them or see them go in free agency rather than sign them to a pricier second contract.

It could be that they've focused on Ramirez as that special talent who they're willing to break the bank on, but I'll to have to see it to believe it, based on how the franchise has traditionally operated

Cardinals announced they have a Zoom tomorrow scheduled at 10 a.m. Think it's to announce the new coach already?
Mark P
8:16
Seems intriguing.  And, I may as well announce it right here right now......the Cardinals didn't hire me.

What are the chances the rangers actually one of the big free agents this off-season?
Mark P
8:18
The Rangers have enough payroll space that they can feasibly be in on anyone.  If I'm a star player, however, along with that big paycheck I would want some clear answers about how Texas plans to rebuild its team and get into contention sooner (by 2023 at the latest) or later, if I'm locking myself into a long-term commitment.

Just how good is the Pirates minor league system?  Any budding stars?
Mark P
8:20
The Pirates' farm system is rated pretty highly.  I think all the scouting outlets had Pittsburgh in or around the top five in the last set of organization rankings

Odds Rodon accepts a QO and goes for big money next year considering injury concerns crept in toward the end of the year?
Mark P
8:23
Rodon is one of the more fascinating QO cases for me.  On the one hand, you're right, he might want to just lock in $18.4MM now and set up next winter for his bigger contract.  On the other, maybe he see this winter as his best opportunity to cash in, late-season issues be damned.

I'm really torn on which way he'd go.
Jorge Polanco
8:24
Is there any chance that I get traded this winter? Twins have some middle infield depth, and you've got to think I'd bring back a couple of really nice young players.
Mark P
8:24
Unless the Twins pivot hard into total rebuild territory, Polanco isn't going anywhere

Could Angels end up with 2 Gray's?
Mark P
8:27
Smokey Joe Williams and Ray Brown would be amazing additions to any pitchi....

....oh wait, I thought you meant the Homestead Grays.  But sure, adding Sonny Gray and Jon Gray would be a pretty decent consolation prize, sure.

Sonny is the harder add, since it's still unclear exactly what the Reds might be doing in terms of spending or going all-out to contend in 2022.
Didi Gregorious
8:28
Could I get released?
Mark P
8:28
That'd be a pretty big chunk of money for the Phillies to just eat, so I'd imagine they'll try every attempt to trade him, even if it's a proverbial "bad contract swap"
Robbie Baseball

Everyone on social media seems to be implying that Jose Ramirez will definitely be traded to Toronto (fingers crossed it happens). If that happens, do you think they’d add any other position players or just add SP/RP at that point?
Mark P
8:31
There have been Ramirez/Jays rumors for years, since Toronto fans and media tend to assume any Cleveland player is a trade target due to the Tribe's history with Shapiro and Atkins.
8:32
I tend to believe J-Ram isn't going to dealt for anything short of a massive offer, or an obvious overpay.  Cleveland surely thinks they can contend next season if everyone is healthy, and they probably want a big splash in their first year as the Guardians.

The ChiSox are rumoured to be looking to exercise Kimbrel's option and trade him for another overpriced contract.  Not better to just *not* exercise him, and trade for the bad contract with the selling team eating money?
Mark P
8:34
In letting Kimbrel walk, the Sox would then have given Madrigal and Heuer away for nothing.  Even retaining Kimbrel to try and shop him creates the chance of the Sox adding some kind of asset to help the team in 2022.

Or, they might just retain Kimbrel and hope for a bounce-back performance.
Masahiro Tanaka
8:35
Any chance I come back to MLB?
Mark P
8:36
Seemed like Tanaka would only return if the Yankees came calling
Pete Rose
8:37
With all the legal gambling in baseball now, any chance I get reinstated?
Mark P
8:37
I strongly doubt it.  There is a world of difference between fans betting on games and players betting on games.

Who will LAD keep out of their pending free agents:  Scherzer, Seager, CT3, Jansen, Kershaw, Pulois?
Mark P
8:39
If I had to guess, the Dodgers will let Pujols, Jansen, and Seager walk, and they re-sign Kershaw.

Scherzer and Taylor are 50-50 since they'll get so much attention from other teams, and I wouldn't be surprised to see either stay or leave.
If I had to pick between the two, this is just my gut feeling, Taylor is likelier than Scherzer to be re-signed

8:39
If you are Cashman, do you partially blow up the roster, or decide 2021 didn't reflect the talent level of the team?
Mark P
8:40
Some kind of a shakeup is necessary, since there was just a lot of dead weight on the 2021 roster.
The Yankees don't need to go nuclear and trade Judge or something, but just raise the talent floor

2019 1st round pick, Bryson Stott,  made it all the way to AAA this year and is the Phillies  shortstop of the future. He is also excelling in the Arizona Fall League. Should Philly still aim to sign a free agent shortstop and move Stott to 2nd base?
Mark P
8:43
It can't hurt to keep him at shortstop, though the Phils did give Stott some time at 2B and 3B already.  I hope this isn't another Kingery situation where they try to force-feed a super-utility role onto a good prospect, but once the Phillies figure out what they plan to do with their MLB infield, I'd prefer they stick Stott at one position and let him develop from there
Josh
8:44
When someone is traded to Tor, does the money on the contract change? Or are they still paid in US dollars?
Mark P
8:44
The Jays pay their players in US dollars.
Jim C
8:45
I keep hearing people say the Astros need to either pay Correa or sign someone. Why are people so unwilling to give Jeremy Pena a shot?
Mark P
8:46
Pena is a really interesting prospect, but it is also a lot to ask a rookie to step in and immediate contribute at a key role for a World Series contender
8:49
The Cards will be hiring Ollie Marmol as their next manager, according to The Athletic (Katie Woo and Ken Rosenthal).
