Lot of pressure on this question, since if I get it right, I might get the GM job.....

"Both" seems like a stretch, since then the Mets have McNeil, Davis, Cano, and Guillorme all as spare parts.  The DH spot would help in that regard and McNeil can be a super-util, but it does make a follow-up trade somewhat of a necessity for the Mets.

Tough times being an A's fan right now, I sympathize

Let's see Ron Washington come back to manage the A's. If there's gonna be an influx of new players, can't think of a better person to teach them

After all the Padres/Wash rumors, Washington returning to Oakland would be a fun twist

How many draft picks and prospects have the Astros and Braves lost due to cheating punishments in the last five years? why has this not effected either team?
Mark P
12:44
You might see the effects of those lost picks in a couple of years' time, but in the present, both teams already have a lot of cornerstone talents

Braves SS in 2023 is ______________
Mark P
12:46
Someone not currently on the roster.  The Acuna/Albies deals being such huge bargains have helped the Braves operate, but Freeman will require big money, and I suspect Atlanta is prioritizing extensions for Riley and Fried over Swanson.
Bilbo Baggins
12:47
Do the Red Sox see the left-side defense and the incredible wealth of SS talent available in the offseason and try to rearrange the infield to fit one in?  (Bogaerts to 2B?  Bogaerts to 3B and Devers to 1B?)
Mark P
12:49
That would be a pretty creative solution.  One factor would be how amendable Bogaerts is to moving off shortstop, which he might not want to do if he want to market himself as a shortstop after opting out of his contract. That said, he could also agree to a position switch for just the one year and then re-evaluate.
12:50
It'll be interesting to see what Boston does this offseason, since an argument can definitely be made that they're close to another championship....maybe even "one player away" close

What type of package would it take from Angels to acquire K Marte from D Backs?
Mark P
12:52
In short, a ton.  D'Backs could justifiably ask for either Adell or Marsh as the centerpiece, at least one of Detmers or Bachman, and a couple of other good prospects.
12:53
I'm not sure the Angels have the minor league depth for such a trade, unless they're comfortable basically cleaning out their farm system to address something that isn't really their top need.

Luis Castillo for Cody Bellinger if Castellanos doesn’t sign with the Reds. Thoughts?
Mark P
12:54
That would be a heck of a risk for the Reds, given how Bellinger has struggled over the last two years
(Playoffs aside)

12:55
If the Astros don’t keep Correa, which looks extremely likely, what do you think they do about the SS position? They have a lot of money coming off the books (Verlander, Greinke) and the window to contend appears to be wide open. Do they start a prospect in Jeremy Peña? Do they sign another one of the big name SS? Do they sign a SS without a QO such as Baez or Seimien? Hard to see a contending team take a huge step back from an elite SS.
Mark P
12:56
I could see the Astros as a team that might be a good fit for a Paul DeJong trade, actually.  Signing Semien is a maybe, but trading for DeJong as a bridge to Pena would be an interesting move.

Katel Marte makes more sense for jays to trade (3 years of control) than Ramirez no? As far as lefty bat infielders go... Would Moreno plus Groshans get it done?
Mark P
12:58
The D'Backs would ask for more, but Moreno/Groshans is a good starting point.

With the Giants rebuilding presumably 4/5 of their rotation, who potentially fits the org as the best 1-2 punch out of the available free agents?
Mark P
1:00
That's the beauty of the Giants' success.....they're liable to take a couple of guys who struggled over the last two years and rebuild them into valuable starters.
1:01
So between their payroll space and their pitching development, pretty much any arm on the market is a viable option.

Do you think the Reds will go after Story and taylor this winter or what will they turn their attention on ??
Mark P
1:03
It would be a pretty surprising pivot if the Reds suddenly splurged on Trevor Story.  Chris Taylor might be a more realistic option, though Taylor is going to command a good deal in his own right ($55-$60MM range).
Bob
1:04
But do the Giants and other teams actually do things to "rebuild" players, or are they simply lucky to catch guys in a rebound season?
Mark P
1:05
Much has been written about the Giants coaching staff and their work in figuring out fixes for both the new pitchers and incumbent veteran hitters like Crawford, Belt, etc.  Sure, some luck is involved, but the fact that the Giants have had so many players rebound at the same time tells me there's some skill involved

A lot of teams need a catcher. The Blue Jays have two marketable catchers in Jansen and Kirk. What do you think is the most marketable of the two? I think Jansen would net a higher return. Thanks
Mark P
1:08
I think Kirk's offensive potential makes him the more attractive trade chip.  While the Jays have a surplus between those two + Moreno (who I doubt is going anywhere) + McGuire, keep in mind that they already gave away Riley Adams for essentially nothing.
So the Jays will be a little more cautious about moving any other catcher

Jeff Luhnow for Mets Pres of Baseball Operations or has he been blacklisted?!  AJ Hinch and Cora have landed jobs after serving their 1 year suspensions etc...
Mark P
1:09
Luhnow isn't on the Mets' radar, and I doubt he'll work in baseball again.

Estimate on Semien contract after switching to Boras?
Mark P
1:11
At least five years, maybe six given how durable Semien has proven to be.  $25MM average annual value.

Can I convince anyone to take Carlos Santana off my hands?
Mark P
1:12
Probably not outside of a bad contract swap, or if a good prospect to tied to Santana in a package deal.
Albert Pujols
1:12
Would I be willing to sign with a non-contender if it means playing another year?
Mark P
1:13
I guess it depends on how badly Pujols wants to keep playing and gunning for #700, since I have a hard time seeing him playing out the string with the Orioles or someone.

If he did sign with a non-contender, I'd have to imagine there would be some kind of handshake deal in place to trade him to a winning team by the deadline
