Go Rox
1:14
I would like to see the Rockies go after Victor Robles. He seems to be the type of player the Rockies should be going after right now.....young, cheap, value lessened, once a huge prospect, and at minimum can play a great defensive CF in the Colorado outfield. Who says no....Robles to the Rockies for Ezequiel Tovar and Jaden Hill?
Mark P
1:16
That's an interesting offer on both sides.  I do wonder if the Nats are quite willing to part ways with Robles since he's still pretty cheap if nothing else, and on Colorado's end, most of the metrics say Robles isn't the defensive star he was just two years ago

Am I signing Dodgers free agent SS/INF/OF Chris Taylor as a placeholder for SS Ryan Kreidler?
Mark P
1:17
Taylor would be an excellent fit in Detroit, that would be a very nice signing on their part

Andy Pages and Landon Knack for Chris Bassett?
Mark P
1:18
Dodgers would have to give up a bit more, other teams would top Pages/Knack

why are the Yankees so bad and what can realistically be done about it?  Embarrassing given how Boston wasn’t even trying this year and ran laps around them anyway
Mark P
1:19
I'll point out that the Yankees and Red Sox finished with the exact same regular season win total, so it's not like New York was "so bad" whatsoever.

Is it just me or does some of the comments Correa has been making lately sound like he is try to market himself specifically to the Cubs. His comment about wanting to be on a team that wants to win by rebuilding correctly seems to closely mirror some of Hoyers comments about the Cubs rebuild.
Mark P
1:22
Correa had an interview recently with Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Chicago, and Correa said a bunch of nice things about how cool it would be to play in Chicago.  I wouldn't take that as some big hint, however, since obviously Correa isn't going to be critical of a big-market team with money to spend, for fear of eliminating a suitor.

I still doubt the Cubs are going to do any serious spending this winter, and Correa wants to be on a team that can win as soon as next year
Carlos Correa
1:22
Maybe I am in the minority on Correa not leaving Houston, but I don't see as big a market for him due to his price tag and teams needs.  NYY always seems to be the answer for him, but they need a left handed bat and Seagar makes more sense.  The Tigers and Rangers are always thrown out and they don't seem like they are ready to win which he wants.  Then you have a number of teams who don't have a SS need or aren't going to spend that kind of money on him.  I feel Houston has a great shot at resigning him.
Mark P
1:24
Reading between the lines here, Correa isn't returning to Houston unless they essentially doubled their previous offers to him

Assuming the NL adopts the full time DH, which I think is a real possibility, who is the DH for St Louis next season? Do they stay in house, or do that pick up a left handed bat who can maybe spell at 1B when Goldy needs a day off?
Mark P
1:26
Pederson seems like a good fit in that regard, or maybe a reunion with Brad Miller

Will the A’s likely hire their next manager in house, ala Kotsay or Christensen?
Mark P
1:27
That would be my guess.  I'd imagine they wouldn't have let Melvin go unless they had a ready-made replacement lined up

It looks like the Reds can’t afford to do anything this off season
Mark P
1:29
Payroll seems pretty tight, even if/when Castellanos opts out.  Anthony Franco recently covered the possibilities in the Reds offseason outlook: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/10/reds-rumors-offseason-nick-cast...

What do the Dodgers do with Bauer if he reinstated by MLB? As a Dodger fan, I’d prefer him to not play on the team again.
Mark P
1:30
Bauer will surely be suspended by the league, and then the Dodgers will release him the moment that suspension is up.
1:31
I would be stunned if he ever plays for the Dodgers again

Duran, Downs and Seabold for Buxton...who says no?
Mark P
1:32
That's an interesting one, and I think the Twins would find it very tempting.  Depends on the status of their extension talks with Buxton, of course, but if talks aren't going well or the team has any reservations about investing in an oft-injured player, that's a really nice haul of young talent for one season of Buxton

Over/under 1.5 MVPs for Wander Franco in his career?
Mark P
1:33
Reasonably, I have to take the under.  It's not a long list of players with two MVPs, and lots of guys have had great careers without ever winning an MVP

Suppose the yankees are interested in matt olson and the NY does not want to give anthony volpe or oswald peraza or Luis Gil so they would instead give Austin Wells # 6, Clarke Schimdt # 5, Deivi Garcia # 11,  Osvaldo Cabrera # 16 (Double AA League MVP) see his numbers last season, Matt Sauer. is this package enough for matt Olson? Thanks a Lot
Mark P
1:36
Not that that's a bad package of players, but the A's would want more for Olson, and they'd be able to get more from another team

I was commenting about an interview Correa did with Jessee Rogers for ESPN. When he said "I want to be part of an organization that wants to go in the right direction and rebuild the right way and win championships". Sounds kinda similar to Hoyer saying spend intelligently and build the next great Cubs team. And not having a core but a consistent contender. I don't put much stock in interviews with team reporters
Mark P
1:38
Again, that reads to me more like Correa leaving his options open than hinting at a team like the Cubs.
1:39
If the Cubs stepped up and offered him $300MM or something, I'm sure he'd take it, but all things being equal, I'm sure Correa would want to play for a more immediate contender.
Braves
1:42
I think the Braves should go all in for Bryan Reynolds. Would Pitt take Pache, Wright, Shewmake, Contreras, and Another top pitching prospect?
Mark P
1:43
It would take something in that ballpark, for sure.  But again, it's not only a question of whether or not Pittsburgh would accept that as a reasonable trade package for Reynolds, but whether they could find another team to top the offer.

In Reynolds' case in particular, it also sounds like the Pirates really want to hang onto him as a cornerstone guy.
AJ
1:45
Any word on how much the Tigers plan to spend this offseason? Outside the realm of possibility for Correa to rejoin Hinch in Detroit?
Mark P
1:46
There has been a lot of speculation about a Correa/Tigers fit, and both Ilitch and Avila saying that the team is ready to spend has only increased the excitement in Detroit.

While neither made a John Middleton-esque "stupid money" comment, surely Ilitch and Avila know that raising the idea of bigger spending would invite a lot of fan expectations.

I think you are under rating the Cubs and what the executives have said, and the investment they have made in Wrigleyville. They almost have to field competitive teams. Starling Marte to the Cubs makes a lot of sense if they are serious about contending. Put a couple of other guys like Castellanos and maybe a couple of good starting pitchers (Stroman types) and the Cubs should be right back at the top of the NL Central.
Mark P
1:48
The thing is, the Cubs haven't done much spending in three years.  While they've cleared a ton of money off the books, I find it hard to believe that they'll suddenly and immediately go on a spending spree and get right back up into the $200MM range

Myles Straw Gold Glove nominee in center. Does this have echo of the Kenny Lofton steal  from Houston?
Mark P
1:50
With all due respect to Myles Straw, there is almost no way he'll be as good as Kenny Lofton, one of the more underrated players of the last 30 years.

That said, I do like that deal a lot for Cleveland.  They've badly needed some stability in the outfield for years, and it looks like they found an everyday piece

Why is there no MLB team in San Antonio?
Mark P
1:51
Could be some territorial rights issues with the Rangers and Astros, as San Antonio never seems to come up too often in discussions about expansion or teams moving
