I think this past season has shown that Atlanta doesn't need to make splashy moves....just trade for a bunch of struggling outfielders and voila, championship!

More seriously, Freeman is the key to their offseason.  Depending on how much their ownership is willing to extend the payroll, re-signing Freeman might be all the Braves can really do

Where do you think Semien signs? And why is it the White Sox?
Mark P
8:38
I'd think a return to the Jays or somewhere on the west coast (Giants, Mariners) is more realistic than the ChiSox.

I know the Angels and Marlins talked about a potential Marsh for Meyer deal at the trade deadline (with other pieces involved of course). Do you think that gets revisited at all?
Mark P
8:39
Don't see why it wouldn't, unless the Marlins might have their eyes on another OF or if the Angels want a more proven arm
Joshua

Victor Robles and Jackson Rutledge to the Guardians for Plesac……who says no? Thanks.
Mark P
8:40
Cleveland says no.  They'd want a lot more for Plesac
Kyle
8:41
First major signing of the off-season?
Mark P
8:42
Somewhere, Andrew Heaney sheds a tear over not being considered "major."

My guess is we see at least one qualifying offer accepted, if that counts as a signing.
Chris
8:42
Do you think the Giants will make a run at Semien or Chris Taylor?
Mark P
8:43
"Why not both?" as the meme says
Jaryd
8:43
Any chances Tigers reunite with Castillanos? They need OF help and would help their offense a lot.
Mark P
8:44
I doubt Castellanos wants to return to Comerica Park, he has been vocal about how the ballpark didn't really suit him
Bigjoe
8:44
Who has a better Chance of Signing with the Phillies Kris Bryant or Big Nick C ?
Mark P
8:45
I'm not sure about "better chance," per se, but I would guess Bryant. He's a better positional fit for the Phillies' need, and he wouldn't cost a draft pick since he isn't a QO player

What are the Astros going to do with Jeremy Pena? It seems like he's a year or 2 away from an everyday starting SS, but it doesn't seem like there are any SS free agents who would be good with just a short-term contract.
Mark P
8:47
Someone like Chris Taylor might fit, since Taylor can play SS or CF, giving time for Pena to get his feet wet and for McCormick/Siri to also get time in center.

Now, what I don't know is if a longtime Dodger like Taylor has any bad blood with the Astros organization or if he's willing to let bygones be bygones

What would it take for the Padres to trade Myers? If they can't move Hosmer, he's another option.
Mark P
8:48
Myers is only under contract through 2022, so he is certainly easier to move than Hosmer.  SD might still have to eat a little money, or maybe take on a similar contract in return as offset

Your early feelings on the CBA "progress"?
Mark P
8:50
It's not making me feel super optimistic that every proposal leaked so far has been something that the other side would 100 percent not accept
Adam
8:51
Who says no..  Jose RAMIREZ and Bieber for Nate Pearson, Lourdes Gurriel, Alejandro Kirk and Jordan Groshans
Mark P
8:51
Toronto would do that in a heartbeat, but Cleveland would definitely say no
Related: I feel like I've answered a Toronto/Cleveland trade proposal in literally every chat I've done for the last two years
Tiger Fan

Louis Head for a PTBNL? When will Detroit get in on the Tampa Bay roster crunch?
Mark P
8:53
Head is a pretty good pitcher, and hopefully the Marlins won't send the poor guy down to the minors 50 times next year
Jim C
8:54
I think I read somewhere that the Astros are kicking the tires on Marte. Why wouldn't they just continue to roll with McCormick/Siri until Meyer gets back?
Mark P
8:55
Nothing wrong with checking in on a top free agent just as a matter of due course, and Houston's interest in Marte dates back to at least the trade deadline.  If Marte was signed, the Astros could then hypothetically make Siri or McCormick into trade bait

Are the Giants better served trading Bart for pitching and signing a veteran backstop for a few years until the Hunter Bishop is ready to go?
Mark P
8:56
"A few years" is a long time to wait for a team that's trying to win, and Bart is one of the best prospects in the sport.
Jared
8:56
Do Rangers spend their way into playoffs or will it take a lot more?
Mark P
8:57
The Rangers have enough holes that even with a major spending spree, I'm hard-pressed to see them as a playoff team in 2022
Jared
8:57
Teams pay less for 9th inning closer types nowadays. Does Dombrowski overpay for a closer and who does he target?
Mark P
8:58
The QO is an obstacle, but I'd be surprised if the Phillies don't check in on Raisel Iglesias.
Larry David
8:59
Pick 1: The Office, Seinfeld, Curb (although I guess Seinfeld and Curb are more or less the same show)
Mark P
8:59
Oof, this is a rough choice.  I have to say Seinfeld since it's probably on my Mount Rushmore of TV shows, and the other two are just a step behind

We shall take a brief pause in the chat while I do some work on this Louis Head post.

"Let's all go to the lobby, let's all go to the lobby...."

And we're back!
A major MLBTR pet peeve.....when I start a chat on a slow night and then boom, a trade happens 15 minutes in.

Is Manaea the most likely player to be traded this offseason?
