Would Johnny Cueto make sense for the Royals?
Mark P
7:07
I can see that fit, sure.  Cueto won't be too expensive this winter, and I would assume he has fond memories of playing in KC
Stephen D
7:07
Any chance the Cardinals add Grienke or Verlander on a short deal?
Mark P
7:08
Verlander's already back with Houston, so no dice there.  Greinke wouldn't be a bad fit, but if the Cards added pitching, I tend to think they'd go for a more surefire ace or front-of-the-rotation type.
Red Sox
7:08
Ketel Marte for Verdugo, Dalbec, and Bello. Marte plays second. Duran plays left. Thoughts?
Mark P
7:08
Arizona would want a lot more than that for Marte
Orioles fan

Is there a possibility that a schedule change (i.e. not playing the same four teams 19 times a year) will be a part of the new CBA? Asking as a fan of the worst team in the AL Beast.
Mark P
7:11
As a fan of another AL East team, I'd also happily welcome a change to the schedule format.  I get tired of seeing the same opponents 76 times a season, and a change would also help even the competitive balance playing field for wild-card purposes
Go Guardians
7:12
Is Suzuki a realistic target?
Mark P
7:12
Possibly, though it remains to be seen if the Guardians will spend that much on any player, let alone someone who has yet to play a Major League game.

7:13
is Verlander the biggest surprise gamble of the off season this year? A pitcher coming off a serious arm injury at his age to think he will be a top #1?
Mark P
7:14
There's some definitely risk involved, no question.  But, Verlander also has the track record that would make a team take that $50MM risk
Hits Like Rays
7:15
Looking at the Rays' roster, it seems like their biggest need is another outfielder or DH type.  What do you think about them going after Andrew McCutchen, Clint Frazier, or trying to trade for one of the Reds' outfielders?
Mark P
7:16
McCutchen would likely have interest in playing for a contender so close to home, and he wouldn't be so expensive that he'd be out of Tampa's limited price range.

I’m going to keep throwing out Noelvi Marte and Hancock for Bryan Reynolds until it happens. Doesn’t this make sense for both organizations?
Mark P
7:20
The Mariners have said they aren't dealing any of their true elite prospects, which I assume means Rodriguez, Marte, Hancock and Kirby.  Could be public gamesmanship on their part, but two top-tier prospects is definitely what it would take to pry Reynolds away from the Bucs
Daniel P
7:21
Nexts manager of the Mets?
Mark P
7:21
Total speculation on my part, but maybe Brad Ausmus?  Longstanding ties to Eppler, and I wonder if Eppler wants to give Ausmus more of a shot than he got in Anaheim
Contract the Nationals
7:22
What's the rule on teams that have lost qualified players signing a different qualified player? Do they still lose their 2nd round pick, or would they lose the competitive balance pick?
Mark P
7:22
The team would lose their second-highest draft pick, wherever that pick may land (be it in the second round, or losing their compensation pick for their own QO guy leaving)
Brew Crew Fan
7:23
Do Brewers try to steal a big name on a shorter contract (like say Castellanos, Conforto) to RF or go with a platoon situation out there?
Mark P
7:24
Conforto would be interesting, since I think there's a better chance he would take a shorter contract than Castellanos.  However, the presence of the QO draft pick complicates any pursuit of Conforto or Castellanos for a team like the Brewers, who don't have a deep farm system and highly need to build from within
Red Sox
7:25
Considering everyone is coming off the books for the Red Sox in 2022 do you think they spend big this year or wait for next year?
Mark P
7:26
Zero reason the Sox shouldn't be willing to spend to go for it in 2022.  They weren't far away from a title last year, so why not take one more big plunge while JDM, Bogaerts, Eovaldi, Vazquez, and Hernandez are all around
Steven
7:26
Does Carter Kieboom for Nick Senzel as a change of scenery trade for both guys make sense?
Mark P
7:26
The Reds don't really have anywhere for Kieboom to play in the infield
Ian
7:27
Will teams still be able to trade players if there’s a transaction freeze in December?
Mark P
7:27
They can make trade of players not on the MLB roster, so we can still see some minor league swaps
Brad Lidge
7:28
Do you think the Phillies are crazy looking at shortstops they never seem to let their prospects evolve
Mark P
7:29
Looking at shortstops might represent a step forward in this regard, since the Phils aren't just giving the job to Stott and hoping he can immediately contribute.
Perry M.
7:29
I know I’m linked to just about every FA pitcher but do you think it’s more likely that I make a trade for a top of the line starter?
Mark P
7:30
Perry Minasian = Angels GM

I tend to think free agency is a bit likelier, just because the Halos' farm system isn't super-deep
A’s Fan
7:30
Theoretically could the Mets have 4 first round pick (not signing kumar, syndergaard and conforto QO)
Mark P
7:31
Indeed, which makes the Mets likelier to sign one of the QO free agents from another team.  (And increases the chances of Conforto joining Thor in leaving town.)
Moneyball
7:31
Is it unrealistic to think that the presumed payroll cutting for the A’s this offseason isnt as bad as its being pegged? If they dont trade all of the “big 5” and acquire some big-league ready talent, is it not out of the question that they can be competitive? I dont buy this nihilistic narrative considering Beane & co. avoid rebuilds and there are plenty of teams linked to A’s trade chips that have some MLB-ready talent.
Mark P
7:33
I made this same point in my (another cheap plug!) A's offseason outlook. However, in an increasingly competitive AL West, the Athletics will have to do a lot of shuffling just to remain in the mix, when the simpler method -- in a world without their self-imposed payroll restrictions -- would be to just build around their already-good core
Optimistic Reds Fan
7:33
Does signing Conforto make sense if we lose Castellanos?
Mark P
7:34
I don't see the Reds spending what it will take to land Conforto
Dustin
7:34
Anyway to attach a prospect to Marcel Ozuna and trade him for another bad contract? And if so who might be a possibility?
Mark P
7:34
No team is stepping up to acquire Ozuna in any deal
