Is a Marcus Semien reunion possible? If not, who is the target at 2B? You can’t trade Nick Madrigal and not have a long term replacement in mind
Mark P

Eduardo Escobar was my pick for the White Sox in the MLBTR free agent prediction contest, since they had interest in him prior to his injury last summer.

This place absotively fulla A’s fans.
Mark P
7:37
I think it might be more fans of other teams eager to see any of these good A's players come to their favorite club

Mets can only have 2 first round picks, not 4.  Compensation for Syndergaard & Conforto (if the latter signs elsewhere) will be between the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
Mark P
7:38
D'oh!  Brainlock on my part about the QO compensation rules, you're correct

Favourite Expo of all time?  As a youngun’ El Presidente‘s 8 years in Montreal were as magical as Halladay’s 12 in Toronto were a decade later.
Mark P

I miss the Expos!  I'd say Vladdy Sr. for me

Can teams still talk to agents about contracts in the event of a lockout? Obviously can't sign anyone, but are they even allowed to negotiate "hypotheticals"?
Mark P
7:39
I'm not sure what the official rules are, but I guarantee there would be some unofficial back-channel talks taking place

Will the Cubs take on a contract like Hosmer to acquire a decent prospect? They have the money and won't be contending for a few seasons.
Mark P
7:41
Hosmer has a 10-team no-trade clause, so such a scenario might depend on whether or not the Cubs are one of his 10 teams.  If so, I doubt Hosmer signs off on a deal to a club that might not be in line to contend in 2022 (or 2023?)

Some rumblings the Yanks are gonna go stopgap at SS until Volpe/Peraza are ready.   How about swallowing Andrus in order to lessen the package for Olson?
Mark P
7:42
Getting Olson would help lessen the blow, but Andrus isn't much/any of a shortstop upgrade.
Jason Martinez
7:42
Who's your surprise team for 2022?
Mark P
7:43
I'm not sure how much of a "surprise" this would be necessarily, but I think the Guardians can very easily jump back into the playoff picture

What would have to happen for Brian Cashman’s job to actually be in jeopardy?
Mark P
7:43
He could pull a Costanza and drag a couple of World Series trophies behind his car in the parking lot?
These Questions Are Fire!!
7:44
Per Rosenthal... Eric Hosmer has a limited, 10-team no-trade clause for 2021. The teams he can block, per source: BAL, CLE, DET, MIL, OAK, PIT, SF, SEA, STL, TOR
Mark P
7:45
That was for this past season, however,  Hosmer is allowed to change teams on his list every season.
I'd suspect he and his agents have already submitted the new list to the Padres front office

Why don’t we just go on a full out rebuild if we aren’t committed to winning.
Mark P
7:47
In a weak NL Central, maybe the Reds think they've still got a shot?

I also wonder if we'll see more true public "rebuilds" in the future, since teams have learned that it's a real PR hit (not to mention a loss of TV rating revenue and ticket sales) to flat-out announce that you'll be tanking for the next 3-4 years.

How many more years do the Angels have to go without making the playoffs before Mike Trout finally requests a trade?
Mark P
7:48
This is a question only Trout himself knows the answer to

How did the Jays not jump on or know about the Honeywell for cash consideration option?? Wouldnt we (Jays) have jumped all over that?????
Mark P
7:49
The Rays might not have been willing to move Honeywell within the division, possibly
CB

Eric Hosmer and Mackenzie Gore for Byron Buxton. Who says no?
Mark P
7:49
Twins.  Gore's stock has dropped considerably over the last year
7:50
And if they move Buxton, it'll be for a completely different kind of trade package than that
Tyler
7:50
Should the Orioles try to trade for Elvis Andrus considering the possible prospect compensation they could receive from an Oakland club desperate to cut payroll?
Mark P
7:51
Andrus makes sense for the O's, since they're looking at low-cost veteran shortstops anyway.  Andrus isn't that expensive, since the Rangers are already eating half his salary.
Colin
7:52
We all know about guys like Whitlock, but how often do Rule 5 picks end up sticking with their new team vs getting returned?
Mark P
7:52
The majority of Rule 5 picks end up returning to their former teams.  But, there are just enough Rule 5 success stories that it's worth the risk for some teams.

CT3 to the Giants?
Mark P
7:54
Taylor makes a ton of sense for the Giants, to the point of maybe being a perfect fit

7:56
The Angels ate the the last part of the pujols deal, why wouldn't they just buy out Upton, and start the season withMarsh and Adell?
Mark P
7:57
I think they're going to start Adell and Marsh anyway, so they don't need to buy Upton out when they can just use him as a backup or as a part-time DH (when Ohtani isn't in there)
