Any news on kevin kiermaier getting traded to Astros
Mark P
12:45
Nothing on that front.  But, if one was hypothetically looking for a match in a Kiermaier trade....

Any idea what is going on with Alex Wood’s contract, I know there was all the information on the yrs/aav, but it has largely been silent since.
Mark P
12:47
Could just be a case where they'll wait until after the holiday to finalize things, like if Wood is out of town for Thanksgiving and is delayed in getting his physical or something.

Stranger things have happened than another team suddenly swooping in with a bigger offer, though, so stay tuned until it's capital-O Official.

If the Tigers sign a big name shortstop and another solid arm, is that enough for the Tigers to snag a wildcard spot next year?
Mark P
12:49
There's going to be so much competition for the AL wild card berths, Detroit's better shot at the playoffs might actually be the division title.

Two Padres questions…(1) Of Myers/Hosmer, would you say Myers is more likely to be dealt this off-season? (2) If Myers is dealt, do you see Castellanos as a realistic FA signing to fill one of the two open corner OF spots??
Mark P
12:51
Myers does seem the likelier of the two, yeah.  He is only under contract through 2022 and he's cheaper, plus there isn't any no-trade clause complications.

Castellanos makes sense for San Diego maybe with or without a Myers deal, especially if the NL gets the DH
Tigers
12:52
If trading that young shortstop is a possibility what would they get as an example
Mark P
12:54
Ryan Kreidler is a good prospect but not an elite guy, so he probably isn't enough to be the centerpiece in a real blockbuster.

Hypothetically, however, the Tigers do have a lot of open payroll space.  If they offered Kreidler and offered to take a big contract off another team's hands, that opens a lot of doors.

Does Castillo for Pearson+ not make a lot of sense.
Mark P
12:56
Luis Castillo?  I think Pearson's stock may have dropped over the last two years due to all his injuries, so I'm not sure the Reds would take him as the centerpiece of a Castillo trade.

From earlier this week, it should be noted, reports indicate the Reds aren't willing to move Castillo or Mahle, but Gray is available: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/reds-reportedly-open-to-trading...

What’s the details on the Montreal/Tampa bay rays games? How many at each place?
Mark P
12:58
I believe the idea was that they'd play in Tampa in the spring and fall, and in Montreal during the summer months.  So it'd be as close to a 41-40 split of home games as they could get it.  For the playoffs, the cities would host on an alternating basis every time.

But frankly, they might as well schedule a few games on Saturn, since I really doubt this plan comes to fruition.

Am I heading to Cooperstown? If so, how long will I have to wait?
Mark P

I think Posey is getting in, maybe even as soon as his first of eligibility.  Won't be more than 2-3 years at most.

Will Dom Smith and JD Davis be traded? Will Gausman be a Mets soon?
Mark P
1:02
Davis really stands out as an obvious trade candidate, and Smith probably isn't that far behind.  The universal DH does create some possibility that either or both will be kept, however.

Will the Bosox once again 'go cheap' ?
Mark P
1:03
In fairness, the Sox picked up some very good talent last winter for very little, and I can understand why the organization was a little hesitant to splurge after a last-place finish.

That hesitation shouldn't exist anymore.

Do you think the Dodgers will trade my Dad (Bellinger) this off season? And if so, what kind of starting pitcher in return could they get for him?
Mark P
1:06
It would be an interesting move, though Bellinger's trade value isn't exactly high in the wake of his brutal 2021 season (or even his just-okay 2020).  The Dodgers have the payroll space to absorb Bellinger's arb raise and give him one more look in 2022 to see if he gets on track, but if the club has already decided he isn't a long-term keep, a trade now might be advisable.
As to what they would get for him, maybe a contract swap situation?

If the Leafs win the Stanley Cup how amped up will you be?
Mark P

I'll be so amped I'll attend a Rays game on Saturn to celebrate!  I'll get to Saturn via my flying pig.

Are the White Sox actually going to spend $190 mil in payroll? I don’t see it
White Sox
1:08
Why do people think Reinsdorf will be cheap when he is so close to a winner and he is getting pretty old? He wants to win and has the money, prove to me he won't be going after the top class free agents, especially at RF and 2nd.
Mark P
1:09
Both sides of this debate have merit.  Reinsdorf has never been one to spend big on his team, though that doesn't mean he couldn't or wouldn't given this special circumstance.  The Sox obviously think they're on the verge of winning another title, so I could see Reinsdorf okaying a splurge for the next year or two.
1:10
Also, Abreu/Kimbrel/Keuchel all come off the books after 2022, so it's not like the Sox couldn't drop payroll back a bit next winter if they wanted.

The Guardians have 14 players with no MLB experience on the 40-man. They only have 2 catchers on the 40-man, one with MLB experience. They have only 4 outfielders with MLB experience. With this in mind, they surely have to make a move for an outfielder(s) and a catcher, right?
Mark P
1:13
For catcher, I wouldn't be shocked if it ends up being just a Hedges/Sandy Leon platoon.  Cleveland prioritizes defense at catcher moreso than hitting, so they might be willing to stand pat with that light-hitting duo if they can get offense elsewhere.

Like, say, in the outfield.  I agree that acquiring at least one everyday outfielder should be at the top of the Guardians' list.

Guardians go after Kyle Zimmer? He and Bradley always wanted to be teammates
Mark P
1:14
There's a chance Bradley Zimmer is non-tendered, so while a brotherly reunion might not be possible, it makes sense that Kyle Z would get a look from the Guardians.

Am I a fool for thinking that Eugenio Suarez can return to form this coming season?  He had a really good September and just seems too talented to not get things figured out. He could be the bat that replaces Castellanos.
Mark P
1:16
Suarez getting back to his 2018-19 self would be such an enormous boost for the Reds that it might get them to change their financial perspective in-season, if they're close to contending
Matt
1:18
What do you think the Dodgers ultimately do this off-season. Even if you make the assumption that Bauer will not count against the payroll/luxury tax next year, resigning all of their stars or even some of them seems super extravagant even for the Dodgers. Just guessing, but Scherzer at 40 mil per year, Seager @ 28 mil per year, Kershaw @ 18 mil, Taylor @ 16 mil .... That's a lot of the green stuff for LA! Well north of 300 mil/per year. What say you Mark?
Mark P
1:19
I've felt for months now that Seager isn't re-signing, and Trea Turner was acquired as the shortstop replacement.  As for the other moves....I can see L.A. bringing all three of Max/Kershaw/Taylor back.  They're already willing to spend big, so why not continue that for players they like?

If Oakland does make Sean Murphy available, what sort of prospect/pre-arb talent package would Miami be willing to offer?
