I'm going classy tonight, with some Swan Lake.

(As always, the answer to the "what's your walkup music?" question is whatever I'm listening to right this moment.)
Scotty
10:10
Do the Rockies do anything worth mentioning this off season? They don’t seem to have a clear indication of where their team is at or heading
Mark P
10:11
The Rockies are a total x-factor to me.  They might stand pat, or might swing some totally unexpected trade or signing.
Zach
10:13
Could the new CBA still allow teams that offer a qualifying offer get a pick between the 2nd and 3rd round without taking a pick away from the signing team?
Mark P
10:13
I would imagine any teams that already have picks promised to them in the 2022 draft will retain those picks, even if a new CBA changes the rules
Guest
10:13
Were you surprised by the Mets signing Marte?
Mark P
10:13
Not overly, since the Mets have long been looking for an answer in center field.
Hahn
10:14
Schwarber 4 years $80 mil does that get job done?
Mark P
10:15
I'd guess Schwarber would definitely take that offer, but I have doubts the White Sox would issue it
Camden
10:15
Do you think the Braves will have a down season after winning a title or basically win the division again?
Mark P
10:15
The Braves have plenty of talent on hand, I expect them to contend again.
Zach
10:16
As far as the CBA and qualifying offer: I didn’t mean for this years FAs. I meant going forward. If a player if offered and signs with a new team could the team get a pick between round 2/3 without the signing team having to give up their pick. That way the team and player aren’t hampered but that way the team losing the player still gets a pick?
Mark P
10:16
Aha, gotcha.  I think the smaller-market owners will always insist on some kind of penalty mechanism in place for major free agent signings, as a guard against richer teams "buying everyone."
Al Avila
10:17
Could I theoretically bring in Freddie? Would he be willing to come to Detroit?
Mark P
10:18
Theoretically, sure.  But I'm not sure I see Freeman as a fit for Detroit's biggest needs, with the caveat that having Freddie Freeman on your team is an obvious giant help
Astros fan
10:18
With Verlander, McCullers, Framber, Garcia and Urquidy (and with Christian Javier waiting in the wings), so the Astros trade Odorizzi? If so, could he bring in a solid bullpen piece or a prospect or two?
Mark P
10:19
Maybe as some kind of a contract swap, if the luxury tax is still a concern.  But having lots of pitching depth on hand isn't a bad thing at all, so the Astros might prefer having Odorizzi as depth if injuries arise or if any of the younger guys struggle
Michael
10:21
Chris Taylor seems to be a perfect fit for StL. Have they been linked to him? Do you think he’s a realistic target?
Mark P
10:22
There hasn't been much specific buzz on Taylor yet with any team, including the Cards.  But you're right, he would make a lot of sense on that roster.
La Cheeserie
10:23
Should the Jay's have given a QO to Matz in hindsight?
Mark P
10:24
It makes for an interesting what-if, but then again, it's quite possible Matz's market wouldn't have been as brisk if he'd had a QO attached to him
Riddle Me This
10:26
Jeff McNeil to the Jays?  Doesn’t that make a tonne of sense.
Mark P
10:27
It would indeed.  Really, McNeil would be a great fit on a lot of teams, assuming his 2021 was an aberration.  Don't forget, he was garnering a lot of trade interest himself prior to the year.
Nashville Star
10:28
Will there be a timeline for adding two expansion teams in the new CBA?
Mark P
10:28
I doubt the league would want to lock in a firm timeline, as they'd prefer to have more flexibility in weighing bids (especially with the Rays and A's still up in the air)
Ms fan
10:29
The Frazier trade is big, but I’m sensing Dipoto is treating the off-season as one to end the one to end the playoff drought and not necessarily win it all. Do you see the Ms looking to extend Frazier as there’s no true prospect in the wings to man second base beyond next season?
Mark P
10:29
A Frazier extension would surprise me, as I suspect the M's are seeing him as something of a stopgap option, and they might look for a more longer-term 2B next year.
