Assuming Rauschman performs as he’s expected to, do you think Baltimore will try to sign him to a Franco-type deal?  They don’t have anything on the payroll to stop them and he was drafted to be the centerpiece of the rebuild
Mark P
6:44
It would seem like a pretty solid idea, except maybe the O's would be hesitant about committing that much money to a catcher.  But even at less money than Franco received, an early-career extension for Adley would make a lot of sense from the team's perspective.  It would depend on what Rutschman and his camp are thinking.
6:46
Bonds, Clemens, Ortiz, Rolen, and I forget where I stood on the Sheffield/Helton/Wagner/Andruw group from last year.  But the top four for sure

If you had a HOF ballot who would you vote for?
Mark P

Oops, that previous answer was in response to that last question, which I forgot to enter into the chat

Does Juan Soto sign an extension with Nats, or does he hit free agency?
Mark P
6:48
I lean in favor of an extension.  Soto is a special player, the Nationals know it, and they've been willing to spend big in the past

Could I possibly dump Ozuna with Texas? They need offense and we don’t need the PR nightmare.
Mark P
6:49
What makes you think the Rangers would want that PR nightmare?

Franco type deals for Vlad and Bo? Would $200MM each be enough?
Mark P
6:50
For an 11-year commitment, both Vlad Jr. and Bichette would command way more than $300MM since they're more established players who are closer to free agency.

Where will I be next season
Mark P

I think the Phillies could be in the mix.

Do you see the braves getting Matt Olson ?
Mark P
6:54
If Freeman doesn't ultimately end up re-signing, it's certainly a possibility.  Atlanta has some young talent to attract Oakland's attention, and Anthopoulos and Beane have had a good working relationship (i.e. the Josh Donaldson trade) in the past

Any news about Anthony Rizzo?
Mark P
6:56
Nothing much, apart from the Braves checking in on him (also tied to the Freeman pursuit)

The cards and A’s seem like great trade partners on paper. But who would the cards likely target? What might a package look like?
Mark P
6:59
Any of Manaea/Bassitt/Montas would nicely bolster the St. Louis rotation.  If the A's are looking to still be competitive, maybe DeJong heads to Oakland?  (Or maybe Sosa, if the A's believe he can be a viable big leaguer and still want to keep costs down.)  Obviously it would take more than either just DeJong or Sosa to land any of the three pitchers.
Captain Kirk
7:00
Alejandro Kirk for David Bednar? Who says no?
Mark P
7:01
Bednar is a good reliever, but the Jays would want a lot more than that for a potential starting catcher with that much hitting promise
Joey Bart
7:01
Do the Giants look for a catcher? Or do you think Bart is ready?
Mark P
7:02
I suspect SF will stand pat with the Bart/Casali combination.  Bart has nothing left to prove at Triple-A, so it's time to give him a look in the majors

How likely am I to deal my top prospects in Campusano and Gore to land much needed pieces for the Padres rotation or lineup?
Mark P
7:04
Adding Alfaro was a curious enough move that I wonder if Campusano could indeed be a trade chip.

Gore is a question mark after his lost 2021 season.  There's no doubt his prospect value is lower now than it was a year ago, but it's obviously not zero.

What's the kinerfalefa plan for tex?
Mark P

If I'm Texas, I just keep him as a super-utility guy or as the 3B starter until Jung is ready.

The disastrous (for the Pirates) Archer trade and other trades like it has made me wonder if there's much to be gained long term by trading with the Rays. Is it wise to trade with a team that seems to know more than everyone else?
Mark P
7:09
Jake Cronenworth is a living example of how the Rays don't win "every" trade.

Though maybe, the Rays intentionally threw that deal since they knew they had the MI depth anyway, and to give the impression that "even the Rays can be wrong."  WE'RE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, PEOPLE

Since you believe that the A’s have their manager, who will be mine, and can they be successful in NYC?
Mark P
7:10
It seems like Showalter is the strong favorite, and considering that he has actually had success in NY in the past, I think it'd be a good hire
Zaidi
7:12
Am I wrong to be disappointed that Zaidi hadn’t spent any of the “coming off the books” money this year? It would have been nice to see something “bigger” happen. Or do you think SF has FA signings intended for when things ramp back up? If so, what do you think?
Mark P
7:13
I'm not the first to note this, but most of the traditional big-market spenders (Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Giants) have been pretty quiet thus far, probably waiting to see how things shake out with the CBA.  I don't doubt that the Giants have some moves both big and small in mind when the offseason resumes, and with the first wave of free agents out of the way, they still have plenty of money to offer the remaining big names

Rowdy Tellez, Keston Hiura and a couple of other solid prospects for Matt Olson. Oakland says...?

Will Cleveland be a contender or middle of the pack? White Sox are good, Detroit has made important improvements. Seems like the Guardians are fighting to stay out of the cellar with the Royals and Twins…thoughts?
Mark P
7:17
I'm of the mindset that the Guardians can certainly contend if their pitching is healthy, and they can be serious contenders if they add another couple of quality bats.
