Perry
7:17
Realistically speaking, do you see us adding a front end rotation option?
Mark P
7:18
(Perry Minasian = Angels GM)

I would find it hard to believe that the Angels think their pitching staff is now set.  So yeah, I suspect another arm is coming, and if contract length is an issue for free agent pitchers, then a trade to land someone with one or two years of control (paging the Reds and A's) could be more of a fit

Why dont i go big and sign a shortstop?
Mark P
7:20
There have been rumors about Story and STL basically ever since Arenado got there, and it wouldn't be a bad move on paper.  The Cards would then have to move at least one of DeJong (most likely), Edman, or Sosa to make room, but if Story is now off the board, DeJong has more value to teams still needing a shortstop
Greg
7:21
If Correa does sign with the Phillies, can you see Philly sending Bohm, Stott, among others to Oakland for Chapman? Who plays LF & CF for the Fighting Phils next season?
Mark P
7:22
With the Phillies already thin on young talent, I'm not sure how amenable they'd be in moving Bohm and Stott in the same deal (or in any deal).

Pete walker still Jays Pitching Coach next season? I would think they would only let him go for a mgr job (depending on his contract term)
Mark P
7:24
To my knowledge the Jays love Walker and want to keep him as long as possible.  The Mets rumor (and it was just a rumor, since he reportedly never interviewed) was the first time Walker has been linked to a manager's job, and I wonder if more might be coming in the future given his success as a pitching coach

7:25
What would the Marlins have to give up for Victor Robles? Seems they could get him for pretty cheap and hope he regains his 2019 form and his top 10 prospect pedigree. Thoughts?
Mark P
7:26
Robles is a tough player to gauge in regards to a Marlins trade specifically, since I feel like the Nats might put a premium on trading him within the division.  Seeing Robles get back on track with anyone would sting for the Nats, but it would especially sting if he's doing it against them 19 times per season.
7:27
Bonus stat: the Marlins and Nationals also rarely make trades with each other!

When will Joe Espada finally get a manager job? Feel like he’s been interviewing forever.
Mark P
7:28
One would think he'd get a nod eventually, and there have been cases in the past where a "perpetual candidate" finally gets hired by someone.
Hits Like Rays
7:29
With Yandy Diaz better suited for 1B/DH, do you think the Rays might go after Kyle Seager for 3B? What are the chances they could turn him into the left-handed equivalent of Mike Zunino (swing for power and accept low batting and on-base averages)?
Mark P
7:31
Seager might be a little too pricey for Tampa, but it does seem like a decent fit on paper.  The Rays probably think, however, that one of Brujan or Walls might emerge as a regular third baseman, and push Yandy to 1B
The Beard
7:31
Correa to SF? He could man 3B for the next couple of years, then slide over to SS when Crawford's done. It would oves Longoria to DH, or even 2B, if we're feeling a bit unorthodox.
Mark P
7:33
The Giants have Marco Luciano in the wings as Crawford's heir apparent, though Luciano might end up at 3B himself.  In general, signing Correa would be the type of bold move SF has the money and means to pull off.  Counting on Longoria to stay healthy over a full year might not be ideal for a contender, and plus, the NL will likely a DH spot to work with next year
Marvel Comics
7:34
Have you seen Eternals in the theatre yet?
Mark P
7:35
Eternals was the first (and still only) movie I saw in an actual theatre since the pandemic started.  So, good thing I thought it was really good!

How long do you think the lockout goes before Suzuki just decides to return to Japan for another season
Mark P
7:36
Suzuki's agents surely kept him informed about the likelihood of a lockout, so he wouldn't have decided to test the market if he wasn't prepared for this long and unusual interruption
ChiSox
7:36
Are there teams that certain agents refuse to talk to? I’m thinking specifically of Scott Boras
Mark P
7:38
I think in general agents are willing to talk to any team, since at the end of the day, they're trying to find deals for their clients.

But there are teams that refuse to do business with certain agents.  Boras and Jerry Reinsdorf had a feud for years, and as a Jays fan, I know that former Toronto president Paul Beeston had a beef with Boras dating back to the early 80's and Bill Caudill

Can you explain Dick Allen being one vote short of the HoF again? He was arguably the 2nd or 3rd best hitter in baseball from 1964-74 and had to overcome so much with the culture of that Phillies org.
Mark P
7:40
If I'd had a vote, Allen would've been second on my ballot behind only Minoso.  Not that Oliva, Kaat, or Hodges weren't also deserving of the HOF, but in my view Allen was a better player than any of them.
Chaim Bloom
7:41
Wouldn't be popular but... if I trade Devers to the marlins for Lopez/Rogers and a stud pitching prospect like Sixto/Cabrera then sign Correa and move Xander to 3rd. Wouldn't that solve pitching, infield defense, and devers extension issues?
Mark P
7:42
Geez, wouldn't that be a post-lockout splash for both teams?  Issues...

a) I doubt Miami sends THREE of its pitchers (especially two established big leaguers) for just one hitter, even one as good as Devers
b) it doesn't solve the issue of Bogaerts potentially opting out next winter.
Definitely NOT Dave Dombrowski
7:43
Assuming I WAS Dave Dombrowski, would I be better off signing any 2 of Schwarber/Bryant/Castellanos/Suzuki or turning to the trade market with my… I mean their, lack of farm system?
Mark P
7:44
Since the Philly owner has indicated that he isn't adverse to paying the luxury tax, signing some more free agents is one relatively simple route, sure.  Of that group, I'd lean against Castellanos since he'd cost a draft pick.
why not
7:45
How long do you expect the cubs to suck this time?  109 years or so?
Mark P
7:45
I haven't made a bold prediction in one of these chats in a while, so here it goes....

The Chicago Cubs will DEFINITELY win another World Series before the year 2100.  Mark it down as a surefire lock.

Are you going to have a Christmas chat like last year?
Mark P
7:46
Our scheduling for Xmas day isn't yet set, but if I'm working on the 24th or 25th.....sure!
Waiting in the wings

Who’s next for Cards after Yadi? Homegrown or do they explore an outsider?
Mark P
7:49
Ivan Herrera is on tap as the Cardinals' next Yadi heir apparent

How come a lot of Red Sox fans don't understand that the hunter Renfro trade was about prospects, improving defense, and opening up a corner outfield spot for Kyle schwarber or Suzuki?
Mark P
7:50
Agreed, I thought that was a pretty solid deal for the Sox
Joe Jackson
7:52
Put me in the Hall of Fame!
Mark P
7:52
"Is She Really Going With Him?" is a fine song, but I don't think it qualifies Joe Jackson for the Rock and Roll HOF
Mark T.
7:53
Do you believe the Orioles will trade CF Mullins and/or SP Means ? It just seems that the O's will not be going in free agency this year for any significant free agents, in your opinion any reason not to play their top minor leaguers in the 2022 season  ?
