The Las Vegas Athletics...do we get an announcement before opening day?
Mark P
7:44
There was actually a big environmental report filed just this week on the Oakland ballpark proposal, so that's one interesting step towards the possibiliity of that project finally getting off the ground.
Regardless, I doubt we'll hear anything concrete about the possibility of the "Las Vegas A's" until at least next winter
7:45
Probably later, since I think the Athletics' lease at the Coliseum isn't up until after 2024

given the changes going on in their division, the stadium issue and manager vacancy, would you do a full tear down of the athletics if you were in charge?
Mark P
7:47
If I was in charge of the A's, I'd give the front office a respectable payroll to work with every season and not require them to overhaul the roster every few years.

But, that's easy to say since it isn't my billions.  Living in my gold house, driving my rocket, owning the A's, eating a delicious plate of liver and onions....ah, to be wealthy!

Do bonds and Clemens get in this year? Does A-Rod get in on the BBWAA ballots?
Mark P
7:48
No, no, and no
Castellanos
7:50
Would I play for the rebuilding Cubs again?
Mark P
7:51
The Stroman signing is an interesting indication that the Cubs aren't "rebuilding" in the traditional sense.  But, they probably also aren't keen on signing a player for seven years, which is Castellanos' reported demand.

That said, Castellanos' ask could also come down, and he has been very vocal in the past about how much he enjoyed playing at Wrigley
Padres
7:52
Would the Padres deal Campusano with Hosmer after getting Alfaro?
Mark P
7:53
There was a lot of immediate speculation about Campusano being a trade chip in the wake of the Alfaro signing, but keep in mind, Alfaro has really struggled for the last couple of years.  The Padres might want to just take a look at him in Spring Training and see what the problem is and if it could be corrected, before deciding that Alfaro represents enough extra depth to make Campusano expendable

How difficult is it to manufacture MLBTR content during the lockout? I get that some minor league, KBO and NPR deals are getting coverage that normally wouldn't, but doesn't that even begin to exhaust itself?
Mark P
7:58
We're certainly publishing more original material than usual to help fill the void, but I won't lie, the lack of ongoing transactional news is certainly a setback for us.  We're going to keep doing our best to provide quality content throughout the lockout, no doubt about it.
7:59
And just because that's a funny typo, it's NPB.  Let's hope things don't get so dire that we need to start writing about NPB rumors.  "Ira Glass Signs Ten-Year Extension"

Are you suggesting the creator of Itchy and Scratchy owns the A's?
Mark P

Yes!  Someone got that Simpsons reference!  I'm still hip!
Ed

Are more fringe players signing with Japan and Korea baseball or is it just being reported more?
Mark P
8:02
NPB and KBO teams have a limit on how many international players they can sign per team, so there aren't necessarily "more" moves this winter.  It's just that they stand out when they might be the only transactions on a given day

Kris Bryant manning the hot corner in Queens?
Mark P
8:02
I think there's a higher likelihood that the Mets focus on pitching, but we probably can't rule anything out for that team at this point.
Francona

Have you heard anything about Dolan getting a co-owner to sign on with him?
Mark P
8:04
No news on that front since last month's update

Mark, mariners are not done this off-season are they? Dipoto said he had offers on the table to two free agents with one of them “significant” was that Ray? Who would be a better fit Story or Bryant?
Mark P
8:05
I'd be pretty surprised if the M's were done with their major shopping
Andrew
8:06
I haven’t seen any link between the two parties, but Michael Conforto and the Marlins seem like a perfect fit for each other, no?
Mark P
8:07
The Marlins probably aren't keen on giving up a draft pick, as Conforto rejected the qualifying offer.  In general, Conforto does make sense, but I do wonder if he isn't high on the team's wishlist just because so many other notable outfield names have been linked to the Marlins instead

Are we going to see a manager with no baseball experience just leadership roles outside of baseball
Mark P
8:10
A manager with no baseball experience seems like a bridge too far, since even ex-managers within the game have talked about the importance of having experience within an MLB clubhouse in some capacity

How high can the Brewers push their payroll? They are only a couple of pieces away
Mark P
8:14
Brewers owner Mark Attanasio has been willing to spend extra (by Brewers standards) to help put the team over the top, and it remains to be seen if he'd be willing to okay another expenditure this winter.
Unloading Bradley and replacing him with Renfroe is a nice cost-effective move for Milwaukee, even if it did come at the expense of a couple of prospects
Scott
8:16
what would it take to get Jazz from the Marlins now that they traded for Wendle?
Mark P
8:16
Wendle isn't seen as a replacement for Chisholm by any means.  Wendle's role is either super-utilityman, or as a regular 3B (with Anderson going to the outfield).  I highly doubt Jazz is going anywhere.
Rodon
8:18
Am I getting a multi year deal or am I settling for a 1 year?
Mark P
8:18
I tend to not underestimate Scott Boras, so if he is saying the plan is for Rodon to get a multi-year deal, one will be found.
Chuck
8:19
Do you see Cleveland signing a legitimate bat for the outfield or going with the young kids they have in house?
Mark P
8:20
They absolutely need a proven veteran bat (or two). They've been trying the "let the internal options sort things out" plan for a few years now and gotten essentially nothing from it

Rays trade Keirmaier to the Astros for Odorizzi… who says no? Lots of familiarity on both sides. Astros need CF and Rays need SP. salaries somewhat offset each other
Mark P
8:22
Familiarity might not necessarily make a trade more likely, it should be noted.  There's a reason the Rays parted ways with Odorizzi in the first place
