Honest Abe

Will there be baseball next year?
Mark P
2:56
Yes
Crystal
2:57
If you had to guess where does Michael Conforto sign?
Mark P
2:58
There hasn't been a ton of buzz about Conforto, so his market is largely a mystery.  The Marlins had interest but I'm not sure they'd be willing to give up a draft pick to sign him.
First Winning Season
2:58
In your opinion, which of these teams: Baltimore, Pittsburgh or Arizona will be the first to have a winning season? (82 wins or more)

Which of these teams will be the next to have an 82-win season?

Who can we get to play CF in Philly? Not much left in FA.  And who for LF? SS?  Maybe we just merge the A’s and Phils to get both franchises back in Philly again….
Mark P
3:00
Man, this got me thinking of a combined A's/Phillies roster, and that would be an awesome team.

Nick Ahmed a decent trade alternative for the Yankees?
Mark P
3:02
It makes sense.  Like I noted earlier, improving on defense is a relatively simpler (and often cheaper) way of making your team better.

That said, NY fans would expect the team to make a big move elsewhere if Nick Ahmed was the answer to the shortstop vacancy
Reds Fan
3:03
Do you see the Reds trading any starters before opening day? If so, who?
Mark P
3:04
I would think Gray, just because the Reds are reportedly more open to dealing him than either of Castillo or Mahle

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/reds-reportedly-open-to-trading...
3:05
If a team really knocked the Reds' socks off with a big offer for Castillo or Mahle, however, I do think they'd make that deal.

What prospects would Toronto have to give up to acquire Jose Ramirez? After trading Austin Martin and Simeon Richardson, it seems they're open to dealing from the top of their prospect list.
Mark P
3:06
Cleveland is still trying to contend, however.  So the Guardians wouldn't take just prospects....they'd theoretically want at least one player who can immediately contribute in 2022
Bert Stanton
3:07
Any chance the Mets keep McNeil and Smith so they have depth going into the season and if all goes well trade them during the deadline for upgrades elsewhere instead of prospects?
Mark P
3:08
I mentioned this in the McNeil/Smith post up on MLBTR.  The Mets have been crushed by so many injuries, plus they don't know exactly what they're getting in Cano (not to mention who knows if any of Marte/Canha/Escobar could struggle)
McNeil especially can fill so many holes around the diamond
Groundskeeper Willy
3:09
Ethan White in Seattle. Does he still have a future their or has devolved into the next Greg Bird and Nick Johnson?
Mark P
3:10
Man, hard time for "Ethan" White, who has fallen so far off the radar that fans are even forgetting his name.

I'd say it's still too early to write him off, but he'll have to show something (particularly at the plate) in 2022
or else an aggressive team like the Mariners who wants to contend to start looking elsewhere, if they haven't already
Matt Olson
3:11
Would Tristian Casas and a lower level prospect be enough to get Matt Olson from Oakland?
Mark P
3:11
The Sox would need to give up a lot more

Shouldn’t the Braves have enough payroll space for a Freeman resigning AND another 20-30m after a World Series run?
Mark P
3:12
In theory, but the issue with Freeman is that he'd be taking up a ton of payroll space for six-plus years, which the Braves aren't eager to do
Paul Dewgong

I was hoping McNeil was available to go to my Cardinals. .850 OPS career vs RHP off a down year. Can he play any first? I like the fit otherwise
Mark P
3:14
I'm sure McNeil could handle 1B if he had to, but it's not like the Cards are exactly hurting at first base.
McNeil to St. Louis would be an interesting but kind of odd fit, since they basically have a lesser McNeil in Edman
Saint Lou
3:15
What do you think the odds are that Albert Pujols plays in MLB in 2022?
Mark P
3:15
Better than even.
Tiger Fan
3:16
Any chance Tork and Greene just make the OD roster? Or is service time manipulation a sure thing?
Mark P
3:17
It'll depend on if the service time issue is addressed in the next CBA, but I would reckon both probably stay in the minors for a few weeks to "become more well-rounded" or "work on a couple of little things" or whatever excuse the front office gives
Porcello
3:18
Does Rick Porcello find a deal this offseason or is he all done? He’s still relatively young (32). I would think some team like the Pirates would take a chance on him if the price was right.
Mark P
3:19
It's been a long time since Porcello drew any buzz.  Unless something has changed since last year, I think teams might have just moved on
Card
3:20
Next Cardinal to get extension? I love Flaherty but Moz might have burned that bridge. Thoughts?
Mark P
3:21
I have to imagine they'd have interest in seeing what it would take to lock up O'Neill or Bader
Draft
3:22
How would you fix the draft to make things more competitive so that teams aren't incentivized to tank? Lottery, snake draft, etc.?
Mark P
3:22
Team that comes closest to the playoffs without getting in gets the #1 pick.
GBS42
3:23
The third-time-through-the-order penalty seems too simplistic. I'm sure teams are looking at differing performance vs. batter #19 or #20 compared to #26 or #27, and also considering particular opposing batters. What do you think?
Mark P
3:24
Teams absolutely consider all of these factors and circumstances.  But that doesn't change the fact that in general, most pitchers struggle the more times batters get a look at them
