My favorite is A League Of Their Own

However, you are quite right in praising Sugar.  Very underrated movie, many people have never even heard of it.

Noticed the MLBTR piece on the Mets and possibly trading McNeil.  Should the Mariners be taking a look at that?
Mark P
3:58
Considering the M's almost landed McNeil as part of the Cano deal, I have to believe they've kept asking about him for all these years

Possibility of  Carlos Correa "doubling back" to the Tigers and the Tigers moving Javier Baez to 3B or 2B?                     The Tigers and Correa were only 30-40M short of making a 10 year deal.  Tigers have Cabrera coming off the books after the '23 season. And, there is the AJ Hinch connection.
Mark P

Wouldn't it be wild if Detroit and Texas each signed two of the "big five" shortstops?  I guess for the Tigers, it would depend if they've made a big promise to Baez about specifically shortstop, or if he'd be cool with playing 2B.  It also creates a small problem of what Detroit would do with Torkelson when he's ready if Schoop/Miggy are at 1B/DH, but that's when Cabrera turns into a part-timer

Flags fly forever. I'm surprised by that poll.
Mark P
4:03
It's an interesting debate.  I'd personally opt for the title, but resigning yourself to nine years of lousy baseball can get pretty dull.

Do I make sense in Chavez Ravine?
Mark P
4:04
Indeed

Would the Billy Bishop airport site be a possibility for a new ballpark in Toronto? Not sure how much it gets used, other than maybe Porter Airlines.
Mark P
4:06
I mean, that's a pretty big tenant already there.  It's hard to build around an airport.  I do love the baseball history angle of a ballpark near Hanlon's Point, however

What will the Rockies payroll look like in 2022 and are they still paying Arenado to play in St. Louis?
Mark P
4:08
About $36MM more owed to the Cardinals.  Here's the breakdown of the Rockies' payroll picture, thanks to our pals at Roster Resource

With the fa starting pitching market thinning out how likely is AA to contact the A's about an established starter?
Mark P
4:10
I'd be surprised if he hadn't already.  Anthopoulos and Beane have a longstanding good relationship

4:11
If the Reds could trade Moustakas would a Suarez and Amir Garrett for Matt Chapman work for both sides?
Mark P
4:11
No, because the A's would want no part of Suarez's contract

Any chance the Phillies land Correa or story?
Mark P
4:13
There should be, you can't rule out Dave Dombrowski's willingness to make a big move

Does Julio Rodriguez make an impact for the Ms this season?
Mark P
4:14
Quite possibly, but as we saw with Kelenic, you shouldn't assume that top prospects will immediately perform at the MLB level
Kris Bryant
4:15
I keep hearing that the Mets are interested in me.  With everything they just spent, is that realistic?
Mark P
4:16
If money is truly no object for the Mets, we can't rule it out.  That would make a trade of at least one of Davis/Smith/McNeil almost a necessity, however, just because the roster would be getting so crowded
Vlad Jr.
4:16
Did Vlad’s weight loss and conditioning earn him another look at 3rd base this year? It’s much easier to find a 1st baseman than a 3rd baseman and Toronto needs help at the “5” for sure.
Mark P
4:16
I don't think the Jays have any plans to try Vlad at third again.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Drafts
4:17
Someond was trying to convince me that teams always draft the best player available rather than a position of need. Personally if i can draft a (college) player that can help me significantly in 2/3 years or develop a youngster for 5 years but i am ready to compete much sooner that speaks for itself. Thoughts?
Mark P
4:18
But you can never tell about a prospect once they actually get into the pro baseball environment.  Plenty of "MLB-ready" college players have immediately fallen flat in the minors and ended up not reaching the bigs, just as plenty of high schoolers immediately break out and get on the fast track
JP
4:19
Do you think any team offered the Rockies a better prospect than what they could potentially select with a Comp Pick? Considering the Cubs got PCA for Baez and Madrigal for Kimbrel and the Twins got both Martin and Simeon for Berrios, surely the Rox received an offer for Story that wasn't too terrible...right?
Mark P
4:19
The Rockies are known (or infamous) for having unusual player valuations.  Who knows what they were offered, or what it might have taken to actually pry Story away from them.
4:20
The fact that they installed Bill Schmidt (their former draft supervisor) as GM was probably a hint that they would always favor just making a new pick, via the qualifying offer.

Though that then wouldn't explain why Gray wasn't given a QO

I'm afraid of snakes. But what hitter in the D'back's system should I be most afraid of?
Mark P
4:22
It might already be Lawlar
Riss atkins
4:23
I know this would never happen, and I don’t want it to but hypothetically speaking. Could the jays trade all their young, cheap stars for top prospects and have one of the most dominant franchises we’ve ever seen in 5 years?
Mark P
4:24
This is some real "a boat's a boat, but a mystery box could be anything.  Even a boat!" energy to it
Brewers Additions
4:25
What does Milwaukee need to add to be legitimate World Series contenders? Their current pitching staff is WS caliber if you ask me.
Mark P
4:25
In a word, hitting.  I mentioned Nelson Cruz as a possibility earlier in the event of the universal DH, and Renfroe replacing JBJ is a good move

What do the Pirates need to give up in trade for Amir Garrett?
Mark P
4:26
Why would the rebuilding Pirates want Amir Garrett?
Think Blue
4:27
The Dodgers were chided the entire 2019/20 offseason before trading for Betts in February 2020 then winning the World Series. Does it seem like that same level of blame is back without giving them a chance to make a big move yet?

You'd be amazed at how many "my team hasn't done anything yet, what's the holdup?!" questions start filtering into these chats by, say, mid-November
