The Cards could definitely use a lefty bat, so Schwarber is in many ways a perfect fit.

are the MLBPA and the league holding meetings or are they both going to sit idle and stonewall until the last minute  - February?
Mark P
7:44
The two sides were having some meetings in regards to "non-economic issues."  So they're at least getting some details covered (and hopefully settled) before moving onto the far more contentious stuff.

What trade scenarios can TEX find themselves looking for?
Mark P
7:45
Given the Rangers' payroll space, they might be good fits for a proverbial "bad contract swap," taking on some other team's unwanted big salary along with a more desirable player or prospect
7:46
There were some Eric Hosmer rumors connected to Texas back at the trade deadline, for instance
Suzuki
7:48
How much time is there after the lockout to sign this guy?
Mark P
7:48
20 days
Adley Rutschman

How old will I be as a rookie?
Mark P
7:49
He turns 24 in February, and Rutschman is surely debuting sometime this season (maybe as soon as Opening Day)

Could the Royals trade Santana for Hosmer and a prospect or two and just utilize Pratto as a DH and also backup Hosmer?
Mark P
7:51
People have been speculating on trades involving Hosmer and Santana for a while, though there hasn't really been much/any indication the Royals would be too interested.  While I'd imagine they wouldn't mind a deal that gets them back some good prospects or another good player, they might be willing to just wait out the final year of Santana's deal rather than commit to a longer-term player like Hosmer

% chance you give A's moving, and if so, Vegas or other? Seems to be dragging. Outside A's ownership does MLB prefer one solution over the other?
Mark P
7:54
I think MLB's preference is to see all of their teams in ballparks that maximize revenues for their owners, and help pave the way for future similar ballparks/development projects in other cities.  If that ends up being Las Vegas for the A's, the league won't mind.  If that's in Oakland, the league won't mind...that leaves Las Vegas open as a future expansion site (or as a future "threat city" for other teams to use as leverage for possible moves).

(mayor of Vegas gave odds on A's staying in Oakland, and they don't favor Vegas)
Mark P
7:56
It makes political sense for her to not overhype a possible move, in case the A's do end up staying put.

How much value does Bohm have if the Phillies use him for one of the Oakland trade candidates? What else would they need to add to a package?
Mark P
7:58
Lots of players go through the sophomore slump, so it's not like Bohm's value has cratered.  I would imagine the Phils wouldn't deal Bohm for a pitcher with just one year of control remaining (Manaea or Bassitt) unless it was part of a larger deal

JD Davis for Sean Manea---who says no?
Mark P
8:00
That would be an interesting one for both sides.  Davis is controlled for three more years, but the Mets might consider him expendable enough to be moved for a one-year pitcher (especially if the Mets were to add another starting position player).

Do the cards sign a left hand hitter or wait for Gorman
Mark P
8:01
I would imagine they'll sign a more proven lefty bat, rather than assume Gorman can immediately help

Any chance the next CBA will modify/eliminate arbitration hearings? Those have been reported as very contentious between player and team with the player essentially getting trashed to devalue their worth. With all the sabermetrics available, seems like there is a way to get to the bottom line easier without having to go through weeks/months of legal preparation and expense.
Mark P
8:04
I'm doubtful that much change will occur to the arbitration process itself, but in terms of the actual in-person hearings, that's a possibility.

Manae for Guierel and Kirk who says no
Mark P
8:06
Oakland would do that trade in a heartbeat, but the Jays would never offer it.  They wouldn't even offer Kirk alone for Manaea, and likely not a Gurriel/Manaea even-up swap.

What are some potential candidates for the Phillies Center field out of the organization? Do they trade a prospect and Didi if the team is willing to take Gregorius?
Mark P
8:07
MLBTR's own Anthony Franco addressed the Phils' CF situation just the other day: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/12/how-can-the-phillies-solidify-t...
8:08
As for a Gregorius trade, attaching a prospect is an option, except the Phillies are already so thin in the minors that moving a prospect of value just to unload a contract wouldn't be ideal
Ross Atkins

Ross Stripling and Adam Kloffenstein for Jeff McNeil
Mark P
8:09
I can see the Jays having interest in McNeil, but that particular package probably doesn't work for either club

Since Adell and/or Marsh are off the table what kind of trade package could the Angels create with Jordyn Adams, an infield prospect and a minor pitching prospect get them? Gray from Cindy? Add something to get one of the A’s pitchers?
Mark P
8:12
Adams is an interesting player, still kind of unpolished but with plenty of potential.  He is likely already MLB-ready from a defensive standpoint, but even an aggressive team would give him more seasoning in the minors.

It ultimately depends on how teams value Adams, since he is also the kind of player I can see clubs having a wide variance of opinions about

Your thoughts on who got in and who didn't into the HOF through the Veteran's Committee.

I don't have any issue with the six who were inducted, but I also think Dick Allen and John Donaldson should've gone in

If the Cubs are serious about spending the money necessary  to sign Correa but miss out. They could pivot and use that money to sign several more players. Who are some of the guys you think they could then target. Story, Castellanos, Bryant, Conforto?
Mark P
8:15
It's weird that signing Correa wouldn't necessarily be as much of a "win now" move as spreading the money around to several players.  If you land Correa, you're obviously planning to contend by 2023 at the latest, but it could also be seen as a bit of a signpost acquisition as the Cubs continue to build up talent.
