I mean, I put in my resume, except with the caveat that I'd run out of interesting things to say after about, oh, four games.  I would very quickly become the Fred Willard to Ben's Jim Piddock

Jo Adell: Exists
Everyone: Can the Angels trade Jo Adell for _______ ?
Mark P
8:51
I assume every fan wants their GM to be one to make the super-dated "dude, I bought Adell" joke

Do the Astros have a big move in them after the lockout?
Mark P
8:54
Their tax number is about $191MM, so they have room to add another notable player or two and stay under whatever the new tax threshold might be.  (Of course, exceeding the tax line and paying some extra money shouldn't be a problem for a team trying to win a title.)

Shortstop is a position that stands out, as the Astros can either roll the dice with Pena or get a more experienced player

Best pitched game you had the pleasure of attending was;
Mark P
8:56
Off the top of my head, a Cliff Lee start against Toronto in 2008.  Lee didn't allow a run over what I think was a complete game, he allowed maybe 2-3 hits, and something like 90 percent of his pitches were strikes

Would the A’s be interested in a Patrick Wisdom trade as a low costing replacement for Chapman?
Mark P
8:58
The A's would need way more than Wisdom to swing such a deal.  For instance, Wisdom would be the stopgap replacement for Chapman at 3B, but another player (or two) would be the centerpieces

MLB. Will Tommy John finally get in the HOF? The surgery he tried alone should get him there. Think of all the careers that were saved cause he tried the procedure
Mark P
9:00
Frank Jobe (the doctor who pioneered the TJ surgery) should absolutely be in the HOF as a contributor.  John himself had quite a career, and while you might say he's a creature of longevity, the story behind his longevity is notable enough that it adds to his HOF case

A chat during a Dallas Cowboys game?  Seriously!!??

Who is Wilson Contreras playing for in 2022?
Mark P
9:02
Wild guess: the Yankees

Do you think a team could be successful, and save money if they focused primarily on defensive analytics?  You might have a team similar to the 1980-81 Astros or the 1980's Cardinals.
Mark P
9:03
The Rays are already doing this, to some extent.

Okay, if MLB expands the playoff field, why wouldn’t they shorten the season a bit? Maybe 140-150 games? Season is getting too long
Mark P
9:05
The owners won't want to give up 12-22 games of revenue, and players might ultimately feel the same way.
Guardians
9:05
Does Cedric Mullins and Matt Olsen make us favorites in the Central? We've got young prospects to deal with.
Mark P
9:06
Now those are the kind of big hitters I'm talking about to instantly turn Cleveland into top contenders.  Dealing for either player would represent a big splurge for the Guardians, and acquiring both would be expending a lot of prospect capital all at once.  It would be a bold move, but not one I'm sure the front office is prepared to make in one fell swoop.

Thanks for the 2hr chat, if the Phillies sign Schwarber and use a piecemeal CF from Vierling, Moniak Haseley etc..are they a playoff team in 2022?
Mark P
9:08
That still leaves the left side of the infield to worry about, Stott's arrival notwithstanding.  Plus the rotation and the bullpen need help.
Mark P

Is there a worse trade in recent history than Quintana for Jiminez and Cease?

Season finally of Curb tonight, great season. Kinda like my Bravos great year even though you picked Stros in dance

I think this season has been inconsistent, but the highs have been very funny.  Tracey Ullman was an inspired casting choice.

With all the money Max Scherzer has made in his career, why would he choose the Mets? It seems he could have picked a team that was a bonafide contender with less drama involved
Mark P
9:12
Scherzer wanted to set a new AAV record to establish a new standard for future players, and I think he sees a title in New York as the icing on the cake for what is already a Hall Of Fame career.  Clearly Scherzer believes that the Mets' problems are fixable, and that he himself might be a help to those problems

If story signs with Cardinals how upset will Rockies fans be?
Mark P
9:14
Rockies fans must already be at a 10/10 rage level whenever the Cardinals are mentioned, so Story might not move the needle much
Tim
9:14
Gorman and Delong to guardians for Rameriez? Who says no?
Mark P
9:14
Cleveland would need way more than that if they actually did move Ramirez

What could the Reds have received for Barnhart and Miley together if they had waited?
Mark P
9:16
It occurs to me that Detroit didn't have much interest in Miley, since you'd think the Reds would've at least asked the Tigers about him since the teams were already discussing Barnhart
9:17
Funny, since Miley is the kind of veteran arm that would seem like a nice fit for the Tigers, on paper

In the event that Arte or Perry read this, Angel fans are already concerned the FO is done with pitching. Rodon or a Cincinnati trade is a must.
Mark P
9:20
I can't believe that the Angels would think their current staff is good enough.  Like I noted earlier, Cobb was pretty good last year, so it's an open question as to whether the rotation is even up to 2021's standards considering we don't yet know how Syndergaard will look over a full season, or if Lorenzen can stick as a starter
