Does Hudson close for Dodgers? Contract is filled with games finished payments.
Mark P
1:07
Assuming Jansen leaves, the Dodgers might pivot to a closer-by-committee situation, with Hudson and others getting save chances based on the game circumstances

See anyone taking didi from the phillies?
Mark P

In some kind of bad contract swap scenario, maybe

Thoughts on Robbie Ray’s contract with the Mariners? Think he’ll provide good value for them over the next (at minimum) three guaranteed seasons of the deal?
Mark P
1:11
Seems like a good signing for the M's, though there's some obvious risk in committing that much money to a pitcher who has only had one real elite year.  If it turns out Pete Walker (Toronto's pitching coach) was the secret ingredient of Ray's success, look out

That week or so period before the previous CBA was exciting witj all the player movements. Any chance MLB noticed and puts in an offseason deadline for trades and signings
Mark P
1:14
I think the players push back against a set deadline, since it creates the possibility for teams leveraging "take it or leave it" deals to squeeze guys out.

Some have speculated, however, that the league might some kind of mandatory shutdown of business from, say, December 23 to January 2.  The holidays are usually pretty slow anyway, and it would give teams a chance to take a break.

Marlins/O's trade:  Cedric Mullins for Pablo Lopez and Max Meyer.  Who says no?
Mark P
1:15
Wouldn't this be a cracker of a trade?  I could see both teams giving this a real think.  Miami would get the CF cornerstone it desires, and the Orioles would get two rotation building blocks.

Do you think that Carlos Correa would sign a contract for a higher AVV for less years?
Mark P
1:17
If there's an opt-out involved, maybe.  But Correa has been pretty adamant about a long-term deal to help push the market forward for decade-long types of contracts

I was led to believe after the new cable deal, after Wrigleyville was finished,  there would be all this money for the Cubs. It sure doesn't seem to be true?
Mark P
1:19
In fairness, the pandemic threw an unforeseen wrench into everyone's plans.  And the Wrigleyville developments apparently ended up costing a lot more than expected.

But, to your point, that doesn't explain why the Cubs suddenly stopped spending almost entirely three years ago

Thoughts on the following: The Jays acquire Juan Soto from the Nationals. They do so in part by taking on the Strasburg contract in addition to a lot more. Should the Jays go all in since bo and vlad will both probably want $40m/year in a long-term contract, which the Jays won't pay to each of them. Depending on how things go, the Jays could start to trade Soto, bo and vlad a year before they hit free agency if an extension can't be agreed upon. That way, the Jays contend now and have the pieces to start a rebuild later.
Mark P
1:21
This wouldn't happen, but I won't lie.....as a Blue Jays fan, I spent a couple of minutes turning over this scenario in my head to think of ways to make it feasible.

Is Mark Buehrle a HOF?
Mark P
1:24
I don't think I'd personally vote for Buehrle if I had a ballot, but he is the kind of player who is a charter member of the Hall Of Very Good.  Fantastic career but maybe just a touch shy of Cooperstown.

Do you think the Pirates should/will trade for a contract (ex. Eric Hosmer/Robert Hassell) to get prospects?
Mark P
1:25
This type of deal would make a lot of sense for Pittsburgh, except I wonder if ownership is willing to okay any type of serious spending.

Estimate on conforto contract?
Mark P
1:27
Conforto is a tough one to figure, and I think it's telling that Tim, Steve, and Anthony ultimately projected a one-year "prove it" type of deal for him in our top 50 ranking

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/top-50-mlb-free-agent-rankings....
The draft pick attached to him by the QO hurts Conforto more than most, though I'm not sure I see a reunion with the Mets as a way to sidestep that

Do you see AZ as a potential Conforto landing spot? Lineup is bleak outside of Marte and Kelly.
Mark P
1:30
There's a bold landing spot I haven't thought of.  Again, Melancon already represents more spending than I thought the D'Backs would do, but if they're able to unload some other salary (Peralta?), I can maybe see a fit
It would be fun to see the D'Backs just put the last two years behind them and flat-out try to contend again

Is Merril Kelley arb controlled or a FA? Contradictions abound on the internet…
Mark P
1:32
Kelly's option was picked up by the Diamondbacks, so he is under their control in 2022, and a free agent in the 2022-23 offseason

Is Josh Donaldson to Milwaukee a help for them?
Mark P

Sure, except it'd be hard to fit him into their payroll

It’s been nothing but crickets in STL… any word on what the cards might do post lockout?
Mark P
1:35
Somewhere, Steven Matz sheds a single tear.

Some kind of clarity is required for the 2B/SS situation, whether the Cards stand pat or trade someone (and then sign someone).  Assuming the NL gets the DH, another bat will be required on that front, too.  The Cards could really use a good left-handed hitter to help balance out their lineup.

So say the Nats did try and trade for Suarez from the Reds, what prospect would you think would be fair to attach to Suarez and his contract going back to the Nats? Thanks.
Mark P
1:38
If Washington is willing to absorb all of Suarez's deal, that accounts for $35MM.  It's possible the Nats might not have to give up all that much depending on how desperate the Reds are to free up payroll space.
1:39
lol, wait, I totally misread that question, hang on
1:40
Depends on the Nats' preferences, and obviously Cincy wouldn't move a Lodolo type.  But maybe a 5-10 type like Ashcraft or Hinds?

SFG owner 4th richest in MLB, stadium full every night, lucrative RE deal in place and SFG swag flying off the shelves. So why are they so reluctant to sign big name, LT free agents?
Mark P
1:42
Like I noted earlier about the Phillies, the Giants are one of the big-market teams that may have wanted to see how the CBA would be adjusted before they really dove into their major offseason moves.
