About as slim as, say, a wafer-thin mint
(Love the username)
Clayton Kershaw

Stearns offers me a 1 year 20 million dollar contract, do I take it and solidify the strongest rotation in baseball?
Mark P
5:50
There hasn't been any indication Kershaw will pitch for anyone besides the Dodgers or Rangers going forward.
Leidy Stevens
5:50
Matt Olson for Ozzie Albies. Who says no?
Mark P
5:51
Atlanta.  Albies is under contract for a longer period and at a bargain price, plus Albies plays the tougher defensive position.
What up

let’s hear those super bowl predictions mark

as a Green Bay fan, I'm hoping the Packers can finally get back to the big game.  And, once there, avoid getting outgunned by Patrick Mahomes

Why not dissolve teams' individual television contracts and replace them with a larger deal made at the league level? Each team could get an equal fraction of the deal, and teams at the bottom end of the revenue rankings will be able to compete more easily for the big name FAs.
Mark P
5:54
Teams that like their TV contracts (or own their own networks) would raise hell over that idea, not to mention the legal quagmire that would arise from trying to "dissolve" every pre-existing contract
Seems Logical
5:54
With all the success the Rays have had for the payroll they spend it seems surprising other teams (like Pittsburgh) haven’t reversed engineered what the Rays do and copy it. Or do you think some have tried?
Mark P
5:55
Given how many former Rays executives and coaches have been hired away by other teams in recent years, it seems like pretty much everyone is trying to replicate Tampa's model

Which GM’s are on the hot seat headed into next year?
Mark P
5:56
Not that all of the names on this list are necessarily under the MOST pressure, but here's a good primer...

What do the Padres do for their OF. And does Kim have a 2nd season resurgence or is he an overpriced defensive replacement forever.
Mark P
5:59
It like SD is trying to unload one of Hosmer or Myers (preferably Hosmer).  With that extra payroll space secured, the logical next move would be to use it on a top-tier available outfielder like Schwarber, Castellanos or Conforto.

Kim didn't get much regular playing time, had to adjust to a new league, had to deal with the Padres' clubhouse drama and on-field collapse, and had the extra difficulties of the pandemic.  It was a lot for a rookie in his first MLB season, and he might be able to contribute more simply if 2022 is a more normal season

Do you envision  the jays make any more big splashes?
Mark P
6:01
I think the Jays are firmly in go-for-it mode, and will make at least one more notable move to upgrade the infield

Should I trade Gonsolin for a more established pitcher?
Mark P
6:04
Depends on the specifics of a trade, but on paper, sure.  Gonsolin isn't bad or anything, though if you're a Dodgers team that lost Scherzer and may be losing Kershaw, you might want more proven stability for a playoff rotation than whatever Gonsolin might provide
James
6:05
will any pitcher win 300 games ever again?
Mark P
6:06
Barring another adjustment to how pitchers are used, I doubt it.

The active pitcher with the most wins is Verlander with 226, so it'll be a longshot for even him to get there considering his age and all his recent injuries

With today's international signings, wouldn't an overall draft make more sense? If your an Caribbean player, your a free agent yet teams only can spend a set amount. If your an Asian player, you need to be posted. Why not just have a worldwide draft like the NHL does?
Mark P
6:09
Keep in mind that for NPB/KBO players, they're veteran professionals rather than amateurs, so they can and should be treated differently.

The owners are known to have interest in an international draft rather than the current signing period system, but I think the idea is one int'l draft and one regular amateur draft, rather than one all-encompassing draft

Do you see the Mets trading for a Castillo or Marquez level SP once the lockout ends?
Mark P
6:10
We can't rule out anything involving the Mets at this point, though landing either of those two specific pitchers doesn't seem likely.  A pitcher of that level, however?  Sure

Does Rendon win AL Comeback Player of the Year? Feels like everybody forgot about how great he is. Then again, that’s a pretty rough injury to come back from
Mark P
6:12
I guess Angels fans are gunshy after Pujols and Hamilton's contracts, but it's far too early to label Rendon a bust after two seasons.  He was really good in the first year and hurt last year.  The optimistic view of Rendon's health is that he shut things down relatively early last year, so he's had more time to heal up and focus on 2022.
Frederick
6:12
Any chance he signed before lockout and didn’t get announced similar to Bellinger?
Mark P
6:13
A deal of that magnitude would've definitely leaked by now
Jack
6:14
If the lockout rolls on, is it possible that a team like the Athletics, who originally intended to rebuild, may hold onto players and try to run it back?
Mark P
6:16
The word on the A's was that they were waiting to see how the CBA played out, since if a salary floor was instituted, they suddenly wouldn't have any "need" to cut payroll.

And, bigger picture, the A's weren't planning to totally overhaul things anyway.  That isn't Billy Beane's style.  The likelier scenario was that they'd still try to contend in 2022 with what remained of their core, plus lower-cost additions

Orelvis, Groshans, Pearson, and a lower-level prospect seems like it would get Arizona's attention

Would you give up Durran and Dalbec be enough for Olson? So they can play Casas in Lf once he is ready.
Mark P
6:20
The A's would want more for Olson
