I want to play for an AL East team… what are my chances?
Mark P
1:11
Rays and Orioles are out.  The Yankees continue to insist that Volpe/Peraza are the future at shortstop, so they might be out.  You'd figure the Jays would have some interest in Correa if they were also looking at Seager, though Correa hasn't sounded keen on changing positions (and Toronto seems set on Bichette at SS)
That leaves Boston as maybe the most realistic candidate, with maybe the idea being that the Sox would have Correa in the fold when/if Bogaerts opts out

Any chance that the Padres can get Matt Olsen and maybe one of the A’s relievers? Could Melvin drive a trade since he has a lot of insights to the A’s organization? I think giving up Gore and Hassell could be worth it along with Paddock. Wont even mention Hosey 🤷🏽‍♂️
Mark P
1:15
I mean, you probably should mention Hosmer unless the Padres planned to just bench him.  Again, NL teams may not be likely to make any moves that would rely on a DH spot until they know for sure that the DH will be a reality.

Paddock/Hassell/Gore would seemingly get it done for Olsen, but I also don't see the Padres moving two huge prospects in one single deal

Sadly, most in Cardinal Nation don't see Dejong for the liability that he is. It's the Matt Carpenter situation all over. He's no better a shortstop than most. One things for sure he can't hit and he strikeouts entirely to much, not a winning combination. The money waisted on Dejong & Carp. They could invest in one if not two top notch players. If Dejong was Sosa he'd be long gone. The fans would demand it
Mark P
1:17
DeJong is more valuable than you're giving him credit for, since he is a tremendous defensive player.  Even without much to offer at the plate, he was still a 1.6 WAR player last year basically based on defense alone over only 113 games.

Trade proposal: Cubs send RHP Codi Heuer to the Padres for Wil Myers and Luis Campusano. Padres get salary relief and a high leverage arm. The Cubs get a potential cornerstone catcher. Who says no?
Mark P
1:19
If the Cubs are agreeing to take Myers' contract off the Padres' books, they probably wouldn't have to give up Heuer or anything beyond a minor prospect

You think the Twins could just stand pat with the pitching staff and just see what they got internally and use 2022 as an evaluation year?
Mark P
1:21
Paying a lot of money to Donaldson, it could be Sano's last year with the team, same with Duffey/Rogers.....the Twins would be wasting some potential if they punted on 2022
1:22
If that was their route, they would've been a lot more aggressive in dealing veteran or short-term players either at the deadline or pre-lockout
Angels
1:23
How confident in Adell & Marsh are you both being future Allstars or would you trade either of them?
Mark P
1:24
I wouldn't say never on a potential trade.  For instance, that Max Meyer-for-Marsh deal the Angels and Marlins talked about was quite interesting.

1:25
However, in lieu of a really great offer, I'd just keep both guys if I'm Anaheim.  Upton is in his last year, Trout has to be considered some level of injury risk going forward, and the Angels in general could use some low-cost young starpower to help offset the bigger salaries for Trout, Rendon, and what will be a huge Ohtani extension

Is there any realistic way Patrick Corbin can be traded this offseason?
Mark P
1:28
Either the Nationals would have to eat a lot of money, or else work out a bad contract swap.

But there have been worse "immovable" contracts than Corbin's that have been dealt, so it isn't completely out of the question

Will Cleveland spend money after the lockout ends?
Mark P
1:30
I've been of the opinion that there's no reason the Guardians couldn't or shouldn't be spending.  Their future payroll obligations are almost zero, and I feel they have a real chance to be contenders again if they add two more quality hitters (and, obviously, if everyone is healthy this year)
1:31
I'm not saying they'll go out and sign Correa or anything, but stretching their financial comfort zone a bit to sign a guy like Schwarber would be hugely helpful

Are player chats done?
Mark P

Nope, we're still in the process of getting more chats lined up

If you had a vote... would you vote for PED users for the HOF?
Mark P
1:34
I take the position that if a player (i.e. Manny, A-Rod) actually tested positive for PEDs once MLB instituted testing, I would put that player aside in order to vote for someone else.

So that's not a firm no, but if my hypothetical ballot had 10 guys I felt were HOF-worthy beyond the PED players, I'd vote for the other 10 first

Kershaw and Suzuki I believe to be plan 1a&1b after the lockout for the Rangers, if they do not land them who do you see as 2a$2b
Mark P
1:36
The Rangers using their payroll space to accommodate trades might be an option.  What if, for instance, Texas tried to land one of the Oakland or Cincinnati pitchers, and offered to sweeten the pot by taking some salary off the other team's books

Ufc 270 tonight or NFL which is on your TV tonight?

Does it make sense for the A’s to attach Andrus or Piscotty to a deal sending an Olson/SP trade, thereby needing to let go of less players to adequately reduce payroll in lieu of building prospect capital?
Mark P
1:38
It does, though Steve Adams wrote last month about how dealing Andrus is tricky for both the A's and any interested team

Greinke to the Twins? Maybe a Pineda like contract?
Mark P
1:39
Greinke makes a lot of sense for Minnesota.  Wouldn't be too expensive, he'd still be playing with a possible contender, a need for veteran rotation help, etc.

If the Nationals want to reload as opposed to rebuild they need a shortstop and have nothing in the system.  Would signing Trevor Story make sense to protect Soto in the lineup and start to build towards the future?
Mark P
1:43
When the news broke of Correa hiring Scott Boras, I'll admit my first instinct was to wonder if this put the Nationals in play for Correa, given Boras' long history of negotiating with the Lerners.

By all indications, it doesn't seem like Washington is quite ready for such a big splash of Correa or even Story.  The team is in an odd spot, since they've been so focused on upgrading their player development system and their pipeline is pretty bare.....yet they have Soto in his prime

How do three-team trades come together? Seems you almost have to negotiate against yourself in order to get a third team involved, convincing them of the quality of another team's player.
Mark P
1:46
Front offices are generally so secretive that I do wonder about this.  If Team A knows that Team B wants a player similar to Team C's guy, it would seem like it would take some real smooth negotiating for Team A to prevent B and C from just directly working out a deal themselves.

It seems like it takes essentially a perfect storm of circumstances and mutual needs.  And, of course, some front office execs are friends and/or former colleagues, so there's some extra trust built in that nobody will try and screw over the other
Corbin
1:47
What do you think of the Patrick Corbin contract? He may be bad now but he was also an important member of their World Series winning team
Mark P
1:48
Flags fly forever.
Never been answered guy
1:49
When  Mos contract is up will the Cardinals move on to another POBO ?
Mark P
1:49
There hasn't been any sense that STL ownership is dissatisfied with Mozeliak's work.  The team has made the postseason three years running, after all, even if they haven't gotten back to the World Series.
