In your earlier comment, you mentioned that ARod and Manny tested positive and were in a similar status. Did ARod ever test positive?  I think he was in in group of “leaked” tests with Ortiz, and then named when his dealer got busted. Right?
Mark P
1:52
That's a good point, I'm not sure A-Rod actually ever officially failed a test.
Dan

Will David Ortiz be the only player voted into the HOF by the BBWAA this year?
Mark P
1:53
It seems to be trending in this direction, that it'll be either Ortiz by himself or nobody at all.

I kind of wonder if this was a reason the veteran committees inducted six people earlier this winter

Your best guess as to Tampa Bay still having a team in five years please.
Mark P
1:55
I'm leaning towards them moving.  It doesn't seem like there's much movement towards a new ballpark in the Tampa area, and since the Trop's lease is up after 2027, the clock is ticking

I can’t believe the Braves don’t wanna pay me. I’m out, who’s gonna pay me?
Mark P

Either of the LA teams stand out as a major possible landing spot if Freeman indeed doesn't return to Atlanta

Prediction: What’s the biggest signing of the 2nd part of the off-season for us?
Mark P
1:59
Suzuki or a Suzuki-esque type of hitter for the outfield, with Hernandez moving in as the everyday 2B

Do you think the Marlins can trade for Ramon Laureano?? and if yes what will it cost
Mark P
2:02
That would be an interesting move, as Laureano isn't very expensive yet and still under arbitration control through 2024.  So a team like Miami would have to give up something significant in return......like, say, one of the scads of good young pitchers in the Marlins farm system
Will
2:04
Luis Severino able to be an "ace" / Cy Young candidate again this year?
Mark P
2:05
Just given all of his injury history, the odds are really against it.  Doesn't mean he can't or won't still be an effective pitcher, but it would be quite a comeback story if Severino re-emerged as an ace

Detmers, Adams and Jackson to the Rockies for Marquez. Who says no?
Mark P
2:05
The Rockies, since they've said they aren't moving Marquez come hell or high water
Defensive Rating and DRS
2:06
According to stats like defensive rating and defensive runs saved, Andruw Jones is the greatest defensive center fielder to play the game and by a wide margin over guys like Willy Mays and Roberto Clemente. Shouldn't that combined with his 10 gold gloves and 450+ home runs make him a lock for the Hall of Fame?
Mark P
2:07
Keep in mind that defensive metrics are far from conclusive, and there isn't enough definitive footage of Mays/Clemente/etc. to truly gauge how great those superstars were within a modern framework of DRS or UZR/150

But to your larger point, I do lean towards Andruw Jones being in the Hall of Fame.  He was an elite player for just long enough that I think I'd mark his name, if I had a ballot
Tiger Fan
2:09
Is Nick Senzel realistically available? Could the Tigers grab him for something that doesn't hurt too much, like Kreidler or Wentz?
Mark P
2:10
Perhaps, though if you're Detroit, why move a prospect of value for a player who is a real question mark to even stay on the field, let alone contribute?
A.G. Pennypacker
2:13
Thank you for the chat, Mark. Who is the greatest player named Mark to ever play the game?
Mark P
2:13
Buehrle or Big Mac, though Mookie Betts' real name is Markus.  On behalf of Marks everywhere, we're counting Betts on our team!
Wayne R

I am a Giants fan since 1960.  I like Farhans way of doing business (slow and steady).  Do you agree?
Mark P
2:15
Agreed.  He's done a tremendous job of quickly turning around what seemed to be a pretty dire situation for the Giants, and somewhat incredibly, he's done it with many of the same players (i.e. Crawford, Longoria, Belt) who seemed like declining contract albatrosses not too long ago
Mark P
2:15
Wait, are YOU Mark Portugal??
Mark P
2:16
My full name is Mark Pcanada
Ace of Braves
2:16
Can the Braves afford to sign Freeman and extend thier young stars like Riley and Fried I'm the upcoming years?
Mark P
2:18
This is surely one of the factors weighing on the Braves' minds, which might be why Freeman wasn't signed to a new deal long ago.

Morton, Swanson, and Smith are all off the books after next season, so that opens up some short-term money, plus the Albies/Acuna contracts being such bargains continues to be an enormous boost.
2:20
The ultimate question is obviously how much will Liberty Media allow the team to spend.  An argument can be made that since Liberty has made such a big investment in this new ballpark and the real estate development and community surrounding the park, the best way to maximize that investment would be to draw more fans......and, no better way to draw fans than a winning team
Pitcher Development
2:20
Why do some teams struggle to develop pitching like Boston, but the Rays and A's just pump them out like nothing?
Mark P
2:20
That's the magic question every team outside of Tampa, Oakland, Cleveland, etc. is dying to know.

What are the odds the White Sox sign Conforto?
Mark P
2:23
He's a fit on paper, but he'd cost a draft pick, a contract that would put Chicago's payroll even further beyond its already-record state, and there is a history of bad feelings between Reinsdorf and Boras.  (Though Dallas Keuchel is also a Boras client.)

Nick Senzel for Ian Happ. Who says no?
Mark P
2:24
Cubs.  Why deal Happ for a player who has been a poor man's Happ to this point, and is always injured?
Bob
2:25
Living in the Tampa area, I question whether the Rays will find a suitable site in the area. Nashville maybe?
Mark P
2:26
Sternburg has said he has no plans to sell the team, whereas Nashville has an ownership group already in position.
Houzer
2:27
If the Tigers took on Hosmer or Myers, could they also land Grisham? Daz Cameron for both?
Mark P
2:28
Moving Grisham as the sweetener in a Hosmer or Myers trade just opens up another hole in SD's lineup, so I don't think the Padres would go that route unless they were getting a more reliable center field type than Cameron in return

Everyone talks about what teams would want Seiya Suzuki or what teams he's a positional fit for. But do we know anything at all about Suzuki's own personal wants and needs?
